Rake Season 5 Episode 7 Recap

As the episode begins, Cal (Damien Garvey) and Joe (Mark Mitchinson) argue with police officers. Joe wants Cal arrested for stealing his painting. The officer claims it is a civil matter so there is nothing he can do. Joe is forced to leave empty handed. Cleaver (Richard Roxburgh) finds out that his toilet is clogged once again. Melissa (Adrienne Pickering) is unable to find a plumber. It seems that they’ve all vanished. Their monk decides to use the bathroom regardless. Cleaver tells Melissa that he doesn’t seem able to please himself in that old familiar way. After the monk returns from the bathroom, Cleaver heads outside to join Jakub (Jacek Koman). Jakub argues on the phone about someone siding with the Middle Eastern drivers. Cleaver goes to the confessional. His old fatherly friend Peter is there. Cleaver tells the priest about playing with himself.

Soon, they begin arguing about martial sex. Cleaver wonders if he has fallen out of love with himself. Peter reluctantly absolves him. Jane (Sonia Todd) begins preparing for the upcoming ball. Jane wants Cal to cancel his trip so they can do. Joe learns that Gareth (William McInnes) just got off the phone with the States. Joe asks Gareth what he intends to do with Cal. Gareth goes on about everything else. They agree that they need to keep those two plumbers silent. A short time later, the two plumbers are found dead. Cleaver returns to the office. Nicole (Kate Box) is not happy to see him. He talks to her about the mid-winter ball. Gareth learns that Edmund Seaton (Erroll Shand) wants to speak with him. Edmund runs the building. Edmund tells him that they need to find another venue for the ball. Cal tries to convince Jane that he is not going to the ball.

He is now working with Jack (Tasma Walton). Wendy (Caroline Brazier) gets a visit from Cleaver. He wants to talk to her about the ball. Cleaver asks her if she wants to go together. Cleaver begins talking about his feelings of emptiness. Melissa and Nicole confront Cleaver for not sacking Frank. Cleaver lies about everything. He learns that Frank had drinks with Penny at her farewell. Frank told Penny about Cleaver renting out his government-paid premises on BuzzOK. Caitlin found out and she wants an interview with Cleaver. Cleaver speaks with Frank (Jim Daly). Frank suggests he can fix it. Cleaver tells him to finish his drink and stuff off. David Potter (Matt Day) catches up with Wendy. David asks her to the ball. She confesses that Cleaver has already asked. Wendy admits she is going to go with Cleaver. Meanwhile, Cleaver tries to convince the Monk to cover for him.

He wants the monk to say that he is a cousin. Cleaver watches Caitlin (Sara Wiseman) and learns about the dead plumbers. Joe confronts Gareth about the plumbers. Gareth sends Joe away and tells him to get an appointment next time. Cleaver gets advice from Melissa. Cleaver wants to use confusion and fake news to get himself off the hook. Jakub wants Cleaver to repay the favor by driving him to the vet clinic. Soon, Cleaver is sitting down with Caitlin. After a brief chat, the interview begins. Caitlin immediately asks about BuzzOK. Cleaver keeps saying fake news over and over. After the interview, Caitlin admits she could be persuaded to drop it. She wants to go to the mid-winter ball. Cleaver wants an agreement in writing. Gareth meets with Jack. He wants her to stop working with the McGregor brothers.

Jack admits he is terrified about getting Veterans’ Affairs. Wendy listens to a client. Cleaver interrupts and tells her not to worry about the ball. Wendy tells David that she’ll accept his offer. Frank passes away while waiting on the bus. Cal meets with Jack. She tells him that he doesn’t have the numbers and never will. He needs Joe by his side. She tells him that today is his last day. She admits she is going to work with Gareth. Gareth speaks with the Chinese premier. He learns that he stuffed up his cousin’s son’s wedding. He is ready for a war. The Premier is ready to bring the Americans into it. Gareth tries to fix it, but the Premier hangs up the phone. He blames everything on Edmund. Edmund suggests dividing the space and holding two events at once.

Nicole tells Cleaver about Frank. Then, he is reminded of his meeting. Joe is questioned about the explosion. David doesn’t believe the narrative. A funeral for Frank is held. Cleaver attends it. Cleaver is not happy with the speech. Cleaver tells Frank’s family a story about Frank from his childhood. Afterwards, he sits alone. Joe meets with Jack. She tells him that they’ll need to split the party. Joe meets with Joe to talk about the next PM. They complain about Gareth. Joe suggests making Cal Prime Minister. Jane says that Cal will do it. Joe wants the painting. Jane gives Cal a pen. The staff begins preparing for the midwinter ball. Cleaver arrives and spots Caitlin outside. Jakub speaks with Caitlin while Cleaver drives. She realizes that Cleaver owes him money. They drink while Cleaver drives. Cleaver and Caitlin enter the ball.

Gareth speaks with them. Gareth’s wife Rebecca introduces herself to them. She insists she is an open book. Cleaver is surprised to see Wendy with David. Cleaver tells Wendy about his masturbation problems and Frank’s death. Cleaver talks about his old friends. He claims that everything is fading. Jane enters. She is upset to see Cal there. Joe and Cal prepare for their plan. Gareth notices that people are leading the room. She says that it is a coup. Cleaver learns that it is something big about the two plumbers. Wendy believes Cleaver is afraid of death. She says that he is going to die and be forgotten. They decide to dance together. They’re interrupted by singers. Wendy leaves Cleaver. Cleaver checks out the Chinese wedding and spots Li-Ming Wu (Tasneem Roc).

 

Rake Review

This episode of Rake wasn’t as good as the previous one. Nevertheless, it still brought some good laughs and I did enjoy it. We’re starting to wind things down and I am eager to see how the series is going to end. Is Cleaver going to discover the truth about the plumbers? What is going to happen to our favorite characters?
