You’ve Been Trumped is a 2011 documentary made by Anthony Baxter. The documentary explores the building of Donald Trump’s Scottish golf course, Trump International Golf Links. After contemplating Donald Trump’s intentions for America, I researched quite a bit and discovered the Scotland golf course controversy. Who knew? In America, you’ve got to use foreign media, such as RT and The Daily Mail, in order to learn about the news in your own country. Crazy enough, these sources deliver the news quicker and without the overbearing personalities associated with Fox News, MSNBC or CNN.
Anyway, the documentary explores Donald’s intentions to build a $150 million dollar course. Despite the belief that the construction will bring jobs to the area, the locals want none of it. Several residents of the area refuse to leave their homes and are blatantly harassed, by Donald’s henchmen. Obviously, Donald Trump isn’t the only one associated with this sleazy type of behavior, but it is still sad nonetheless.
Donald Trump’s biggest obstacle is Michael Forbes. It is clear from the very start that the poor fisherman and his 80 something mother, Molly Forbes, aren’t going to stand a chance against Trump and the money behind him. Despite an initial decision to deny Trump the approval needed to build the golf course, the government eventually wiggles around the laws and approves the project. As Trump says now, he buys politicians. So, it is easy to see what happened in this type of situation.
In the end, there is a lot to learn about the documentary and it is vital for Americans to take note now. In October of 2012, Trump’s lawyers tried to prevent the BBC from airing the film. Unlike American stations, the BBC refuse to bend to Trump’s will and defended their initial decision to air it. With Trump consistently refusing to be interviewed for the film, the BBC stood by their decision.
So, what can we learn from the movie? Remember above, when it was believed Trump would be hiring locals? According to the documentary, this likely wasn’t the case. Immigrants are undoubtedly cheaper. With Trump’s shenanigans on immigrants and the infamous wall now, it makes one question his authenticity and truthfulness. Couple that with Donald Trump’s history of accusations regarding the hiring of illegals and Trump’s bravado is blown to shreds.
Also, it is painfully obvious that Trump is a bully and refuses to take no for an answer. When he doesn’t get what he wants, he throws a tantrum and calls people names. It is fairly clear that daddy, Fred Trump, never told his son no. Perhaps Trump will think your land or your car is a pigsty and will want to confiscate or tear it down too? Of course, Trump isn’t the only one to blame. The government obviously shafted their people.
Ultimately, the 1% elite will always win, regardless of country. You’ve Been Trumped is ultimately a sad display, by a little man, with big money. Despite agreeing with many of Trump’s statements, America doesn’t need a bully. Waking up is hard to do, but it is necessary, before another president drags America deeper into the pooper. Overall, a great film, which deserves an 8.5 out of 10.
