Without Sin Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

The episode begins with Jamal Aboushi (Callum Fuller) asking Charles Stone (Johnny Harris) if he’s being sent to segregation. Charles says Karl McKeller (James Burrows) never reported it because they want him in general population. Jamal suggests informing the warden of his being in danger. He assures him that it wouldn’t matter because Teddy’s in danger.

Stella Tomlinson (Vicky McClure) tells Charles that Roman’s son, Lee McKeller may have been Maisy’s boyfriend. She says Lee was supplying Cleo and Maisy with drugs and he possibly killed her. He warns her that it has to stop because he went too far. She asks if it’s the McKellers before assuring him that she’ll never quit.

In a flashback, Stella’s drinking with friends when a text from a frantic Maisy Tomlinson (Justine Moore) pops up on her phone. Ignoring the text, she continues drinking. Back to the present, Stella admits to wanting Maisy’s killer to suffer. He demands she never contact him again. She says Lee McKeller (Harvey Scrimshaw) knew Maisy because he was the only person who called her Misty.

Charles returns to his cell to make a private call. Jamal stabs him in the abdomen.

Stella asks Remy (Johann Myers) if Lee’s been arrested. He asks on what offense. She suggests Lee’s car be searched. He tells her that they don’t have a search warrant. She reminds him of Cleo (Elise Ackerman) being in danger.

Charles can be seen on a gurney.

Stella follows Lee to a multi-story building where a party takes place. She walks through the building before returning to her taxi for a tire iron. A guy approaches as she busts out Lee’s car window. He runs back to alert Lee as she grabs a bag. Lee reaches his car just as she pulls away. A cellphone found inside his bag has a message in which someone asks for a place to take a girl. Someone responds with an address, 231 Marksby Street in Doncaster.

Stella tells Remy that the messages validate Cleo was abducted by Lee. He reminds her that the messages were on a burner phone. She urges him to check out the address. After pleading with her to stop, he says it won’t bring Maisy back. He assures her that she’s done everyone in her power to help Cleo.

In a flashback, Charles asks Teddy Stone (Johnny Harris) if he’s messaging his “new bird” again. The message was sent to Misty (Maisy). After giving him a baggie of drugs worth 50 quid, Charles says it’s money for him and Misty.

Stella arrives at Marksby Street where Cleo’s living. Cleo says they’ll kill her if she goes back. Stella promises to protect her from the McKellers.

Stella and Cleo drive past Lee in his car on the way to Paul’s house. In a flashback, Maisy asks Lee for some drugs before inviting him, Cleo, and Teddy to her place.

Paul Tomlinson (Perry Fitzpatrick) asks Stella why she brought Cleo there. She says her place isn’t safe because of the McKellers. He suggests calling the police. She suggests Cleo has information about Maisy’s murder. She pleads with him to let Cleo stay at his place. He says she can stay there tonight but they must go to the police tomorrow.

Charles asks Teddy if Misty was his girlfriend because her name was on his phone.

Cleo admits to calling the police but Lee warned her that Roman McKeller (Con O’Neill) would kill her if she brought the McKeller name into it. Teddy, Lee, and Cleo were there when Maisy died. Stella asks if she’s referring to Charles’ son, Teddy. She says Teddy was Maisy’s boyfriend. Teddy tells Charles that no one was meant to get hurt. In a flashback, Maisy confronts Cleo and Teddy for cheating behind her back.

Teddy says he had no idea what to do. Charles tells him that says what it was like for him in prison. Teddy assures him that he wouldn’t make it in prison. He accuses Charles of forcing his life on him. He says there were days when it was a relief he wasn’t there to control him. Charles asks why he took Maisy’s life. In a flashback, Maisy slaps Teddy across the face. He tries to convince Cleo to leave with him.

Cleo tells Stella that Maisy bad-mouthed her mum, Elaine when Teddy asked her to leave with him. In a flashback, Maisy accuses Cleo of having sex with Teddy to supply Elaine with drugs. When Maisy turns to confront Teddy, Cleo hits her in the back of the head. A puddle of blood forms near her head.

Back to the present, Cleo assures Stella that she didn’t mean it. Stella suggests she’s protecting someone. Paul assures her that Charles did it. Cleo says they had no idea Roman would send Charles to the house. Stella tells her that Maisy texted her saying someone was outside the house. Cleo admits to sending it so she’d come home. Irate, Stella orders her to get out.

Maisy was murdered on December 10, 2018. Bobbie (Andrea Lowe) escorts Paul and Stella into the prison visiting room to meet Cleo. Elaine (Stacey Devonport) sits beside her daughter.

Charles informs Stella of his plan to leave Nottingham so he’ll be in a better place when Teddy’s released from prison. They walk across a bridge as the episode comes to an end.

 

Without Sin Finale Review

Charles cuts off all ties with Stella to protect Teddy. Setting out on her own, Stella breaks into Lee’s car where she finds a burner phone with an address in Doncaster. Cleo’s living in a room on the upper floor. Stella takes her to Paul’s because Lee’s watching her place.

Jamal stabs Charles to protect himself. Charles is transported on a gurney to the hospital.

Cleo admits to Stella and Paul that she, Lee, and Teddy were at their house when Maisy was murdered. Maisy became irate when she found out that Teddy was cheating with Cleo. Teddy tries to convince Cleo to leave with him. Cleo hits Maisy from behind while she confronts Teddy. Lee calls Roman to tell him what happened. Cleo utilizes Maisy’s phone to send Stella a text that someone’s outside. Roman frames Charles by setting it up to where he’d be with Maisy when Stella arrived home.

Teddy and Cleo go to prison. Paul and Stella take part in a scheme per Cleo’s request. Charles decides it’s time to leave Nottingham.

The finale leaves a great deal to be desired. It wasn’t forthcoming on what happened to Lee, Meera, Jessie Cold (Dorothy Atkinson), Jamal, Remy, and the McKeller brothers. It’s unclear if Stella and Paul rekindled their relationship. What happened to Meera who was pregnant with Paul’s baby?
