Without Sin Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

The episode begins with Charles Stone (Johnny Harris) filling Stella Tomlinson (Vicky McClure) on the missing Millfields girl, Cleo Dale. Stella asks what’s the connection between Cleo and her daughter, Maisy Tomlinson (Justine Moore). He suggests Cleo may be the connection that he’s searched for the last three years. Cleo can be seen leaving the train station and getting into a red car.

Charles warns Stella that Cleo may be in serious danger. Stella asks who sent him to her house on the night Maisy died. He says his former employers, the McKellers. She asks why it wasn’t brought up in the trial. He says they’re a dangerous family and his son, Teddy lives on the estate. She asks what Cleo’s disappearance has to do with the McKeller family. He claims they supply Cleo’s mum, Elaine with drugs. She asks if Cleo was abducted because her mum owes the McKellers money. He says they torture people until their families pay the money. She asks why he fled that night instead of trying to save Maisy. After assuring her that he tried, he says no one would believe he found her like that.

Stella meets Remy (Johann Myers) at Major Oak restaurant to discuss Cleo. She informs him of her visit with Charles because Maisy and Cleo were friends from the stables. She says Charles claims the McKellers framed him and abducted Cleo. He warns her that it isn’t wise to throw accusations at the McKellers. She asks if he knows where Cleo’s living. He says at the Riverside Lodge.

Charles orders his cellmate, Jamal Aboushi (Callum Fuller) to stop crying or muffle his cries.

Paul Tomlinson (Perry Fitzpatrick) demands Stella tell him why she met Charles. She admits to wanting Charles to tell her what happened to Maisy. She says Charles worked with the McKellers and believes the missing girl, Cleo is connected to Maisy. He reminds her of how she found Charles kneeling over Maisy. He orders her to stay away from Charles.

Jamal tells Charles that he got hammered after he and his girlfriend split. He assures him that he didn’t see the pregnant woman until it was too late.  Charles says prison will do much more than punish him.

Stella asks Charles’ father, Eric (Alan Williams) why he referred to him as the “Millfields Killer.” He tells her that Charles’ temper went from zero to losing it in minutes. His mother abused him until she committed suicide by slashing her wrists. Charles was 10 when a neighbor reported seeing him covered in his mother’s blood.

Remy informs Stella of a call that Cleo made to the police department. He says she claimed to have information about Maisy’s murder but never made it to the station.

When Stella arrives at the Riverside Lodge, she meets Lee McKeller (Harvey Scrimshaw) who refuses to give her any information about Cleo or her mum.

Stella asks Kelvin (Ezra Faroque Khan) if the stables keep a record of the girls that work there. He says no. Jessica Cole (Dorothy Atkinson) scolds her for not making the dinner about Kelvin.

Stella asks Elaine (Stacey Devonport) if she was aware that Cleo was missing. Elaine assures her that she’ll come back. An irate man can be heard in the background ordering Elaine to get rid of her. Stella asks if Cleo mentioned knowing anything about Maisy’s murder. Elaine takes her phone number before slamming the door shut.

Eric Without Sin ITV ITVX

Stella tells Charles that Cleo’s case is being treated as a runaway. He says at least she’s asking questions when no one else will. She informs him of her visit with his father. He claims his father ignored her abuse. She asks if his father and Teddy (Kieran Burton) have a close relationship. He says his father helped him some this year.

Teddy tells Stella that Charles was popular because he was always drinking and partying. She asks if the McKellers give him any trouble. He says Charles protected them by keeping the McKellers out of the trial. Teddy’s girlfriend, Grace (Alice Feetham) thanks Stella for reaching out to Charles.

Charles asks Teddy what he told Stella. Teddy says what he told him to tell her. Charles says he needs him to be his eyes and ears on the outside. Teddy admits to being concerned about the McKellers. Charles assures him that he’s got it taken care of. Teddy says his father wants to see him because he’s dying. Charles says, “No.”

Remy and Stella kiss while dancing. He pulls back saying he doesn’t want to get hurt. She asks how can he be sure. He assures her that she would choose Paul. He claims Paul bought coke from the McKeller.

Stella confronts Paul about his coke habit. He reminds her of the condition she was in after a night out. She says Charles was working for the McKellers when he came to their house. He admits to buying coke from a street dealer that turned out to be a McKeller. She asks if he owed drug money before assuring him that she’ll find out the truth.

Jamal asks Charles if he’d like to place a bet on a game. Charles warns that it’ll be over for him once he’s in debt when someone says Karl McKeller (James Burrows). Jamal questions if they put him on their wing because he needed protection from someone. Charles assures him that isn’t why Karl’s there.

Karl warns Charles that he’ll be there until he stops talking.

Kelvin Without Sin ITV ITVX

Jessica admits to being astonished that Stella believes Paul is linked to Maisy’s murder. Stella says she’s starting to believe Charles. Jessica reminds her that Paul lost his daughter as well.

Stella tells Meera (Krupa Pattani) that Paul was acting strange and buying coke from the McKellers. Meera admits she and Paul were together at a hotel on the night Maisy died. Paul asks how was he supposed to tell her after Maisy died. Stella reminds him of how they had sex several weeks ago before leaving.

Jamal suggests Charles see his father before it’s too late. In a flashback, Stella orders Charles who is covered in blood to get out.

Charles’ father grimaces in pain as he takes a seat across from Charles. He tells him that Stella deserves to know the truth. He pleads with him to accept the responsibility for killing Maisy. Charles admits he’s heartbroken over what he did before saying goodbye. When Jamal asks about his father, Charles assures him that they’re not mates. While walking away, he calls him a “child killer.”

Elaine gives Stella Cleo’s tablet. Stella asks if she knows where Cleo could be. Elaine hopes she’s okay wherever she is before thanking Stella for caring.

A video on Cleo’s tablet was recorded inside a caravan. Maisy pops a pill in her mouth. Cleo warns her if he finds out they’ll be in deep trouble before the episode comes to an end.

 

Without Sin Review

Charles claims the power McKeller family framed him for Maisy’s murder. It never came up during his murder trial because he feared for the safety of his son, Teddy. Cleo’s mum, Elaine bought drugs from the McKellers who, according to Charles, tortured people until their families pay up. Stella suggests they may have abducted Cleo because Elaine owed them money.

Paul demands Stella stop seeing Charles but she refuses.

Charles’ cellmate, Jamal hit and killed a pregnant woman while driving drunk.

Charles’ father, Eric believes he killed Maisy. In a newspaper article, he referred to him as the “Millfields Killer.” Eric didn’t stop Charles’ mother from abusing him. After she committed suicide, 10-year-old Charles found her lifeless body.

Stella’s in Cleo’s room at the Riverside Lodge where she meets a guy. She doesn’t know he’s a McKeller

Charles leads Teddy on what to tell Stella. He finds out that Eric has about four months to live. He agrees to a visit. Eric pleads with him to accept his responsibility for killing Maisy and tell Stella the truth.

Karl McKeller is put on the same wing as Charles. Karl warns him that he’ll be there until he stops talking.

Remy tells Stella about Paul being a coke addict. His supplier is the McKeller family. Meera and Paul were in a motel room on the night Maisy died. He never answered Stella’s calls for several hours.

Stella finds a video of Maisy and Cleo in a caravan. Maisy takes a pill and pops it in her mouth. Cleo warns her that they’ll be in for it if he finds out.

Another great episode with added plot twists. It’s still a guessing game who’s the real killer.
