As the episode begins, Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) arrives in America. He and the other newcomers are harassed by the locals. Sahm gets into a fight with some of the guards. This proves to the fixer that he has unique fighting abilities. The fixer sells Ah Sahm to the Hop Wei gang. Father Jun (Perry Yung) orders Young Jun (Jason Tobin) to help him get settled in. In the middle of the night, two men kill a few Chinese men. A police officer, Richard Lee (Tom Weston-Jones), arrests them.

In the morning, we are introduced to Mayor Samuel Blake (Christian McKay) and his wife Penelope (Joanna Vanderham). It is clear that Penelope has a dislike for her husband. Buckley visits moments later and tells the mayor about the murders. They speak about the protection they promised Lymon Merriweather (Andre Jacobs). They agree to get the men in and out before the reporters can see them. Merriweather visits and orders them to put more police in Chinatown.

Officer Big Bill O’Hara (Kieran Bew) in put in charge of the crew. He is ordered to select four other men to help. An Irish revolutionary of sorts, Dylan Leary (Dean Jagger), listens at the courthouse. Young Jun takes Ah Sahm to a brothel where he is introduced to Ah Toy (Olivia Cheng). When asked to choose one of the ladies, Ah Sahm asks about Xiaojing. Ah Sahm won’t say who she is. Later, O’Hara overhears Leary speak about his time in Lincoln’s war. It is clear that he has the influence to rile up the local Irish.

Young Jun is attacked by several Chinese. They’re looking for Ah Sahm. Ah Sahm ends up beating them down. Toy tells him to be careful. He believes she sold him out. O’Hara tries to recruit the last member of his crew. He is eventually introduced to Richard Lee. Lee gets rowdy with another officer and this gains him points with O’Hara. Ah Sahm works with Young Jun. O’Hara and Lee get to know one another a little better. They buy weapons from the fixer, Wang Chao (Hoon Lee). The two murderers are bailed out by Leary and his men. Leary promises to take care of Lee, who intends to testify against the men.

Ah Sahm spies on Long Zii’s men. He is told to stay out of Long Zii’s territory. Leary tries to bribe O’Hara to keep Lee off of the stand. Leary is set up for a fight against a much bigger man. Mayor Blake visits Toy’s brothel. He spends time with a Chinese woman and man. Leary defeats the bigger man. Later that night, Ah Sahm visits Long Zii’s place and asks about Xiaojing. He gets into a fight with one of the higher ups. Ah Sahm seems to be losing before Xiaojoing (Dianne Doan) interrupts. She speaks with Ah Sahm privately.

She now calls herself Mai Ling and serves Long Zii. Despite home being safe now, she has no interest in returning home with her brother, Ah Sahm. Later, she tries to convince Zii to prevent peace with the Hop Wei. He believes the Chinese need to stick together during these tough times. Ah Sahm tries to buy passage back to his homeland. Chao refuses to help. Ah Toy speaks with Ah Sahm. They smoke herbs and have intercourse. Mai Ling meets up with another man. She tells him about Long Zii scheduling a meeting with Jun. Mai Ling is adamant that there will not be peace.

She heads out into the middle of the night and kills the two Irish murderers.

 

Warrior Review

Warrior isn’t the best show I have seen in the past few years. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it oddly enough. It is a little cheesy here and there. Plus, I am not a big fan of the kung fu fighting stuff. Still, I liked it. The cast is spectacular from the top all the way to the bottom. How can you not love Tom Weston-Jones and Joanna Vanderham? I will definitely stick with it and see how things play out. The opener scores a 7.5 out of 10.
