Warrior Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

You Know When You’re Losing A Fight – As this episode of Warrior begins, Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) is there when Mai Ling gets married to Li Yong. Ah Toy (Olivia Cheng) tells Wang Chao (Hoon Lee) that she hates weddings, but she wasn’t going to miss this one. She suggests they’ll get to see two tongs come together. Wang doubts it. Walter Buckley (Langley Kirkwood) is sworn in as mayor of San Francisco. He talks to the public about cleansing the rot and infection from their streets. Dylan Leary (Dean Jagger) says he just thinks he became president. Douglas Strickland (Adam Rayner) says a politician starts looking for a bigger office as soon as they step into one.

Dylan says he got his votes and it is time for him to earn them. Douglas asks if he is talking about the Donahue boys. He thinks they should focus on bigger things instead of freeing hooligans. Douglas reminds him that most of the cops are Irish. If he can’t think of a way to keep those boys out of jail, he may not be of any use to anyone. Richard Lee (Tom Weston-Jones) tells Agent Moseley (Nick Cordileone) it is odd that the Long Zii and Hop Wei are at a party together. Ah Sahm asks Young Jun (Jason Tobin) about training new printers. He questions whether Jun is worried about the Long Zii.

Young Jun says he is covering their backsides since this whole operation depends on one girl. Ah Sahm admits it is good to have backup, but Yan Mi is solid. Young Jun tells him to get all the sticky he wants although he shouldn’t get attached. Li Yong is pulled away because the elders want to speak to him. Wang Chao speaks to Ah Sahm about love. Kong Pak (Mark Dacascos) tells Li Yong that they welcome this new chapter for the Long Zii and him. They hope Li Yong will use his voice to help manage Mai Ling’s reckless impulses. Li Yong insists there is only one voice for the Long Zii. Kong asks if he can speak to Li Yong alone. Ah Sahm tells Mai Ling that she seems happy.

He wants her to tell Li Yong that he said congratulations. Kong tells Li Yong that Mai Ling’s ambition could become a liability if it is left unchecked. When Li Yong says he is wrong about it, Kong asks how Long Zii died. Kong says they will listen to him if he listens to them. When Li Yong returns to Mai Ling, he only says the elders wanted to pay their respects. Richard tells Wang that he thought his problem was fixed, but it turns out he was wrong. Richard wants Wang to tell him what he knows. He warns Wang that he’ll take him down if he is still involved when he closes the case. He won’t feel good about it though. Wang tells him he is a strange man, but he knows where he comes from.

Richard tells Wang he knows where to find him if he changes his mind. Otherwise, he recommends staying clear of tong business. Ah Toy watches Ah Sahm and Yan Mi (Chelsea Muirhead) together. Ming Yu confronts her and says he is taking back his property no matter what Mai Ling says. He believes she owes him interest too. Ah Toy bites off his nose and attacks his men. Young Jun sits with his father outside. Father Jun tells him that he feels like he keeps waking up over and over. Young Jun says it is just the fever so it’ll pass. They talk about Mai Ling’s wedding and Li Yong. Once they discuss Ah Sahm, Young Jun says he’d never challenge him for the tong.

It looks like some of the elders are killed in the middle of the night. Kong is strangled from behind while Li Yong and Mai Ling have sex. Bill O’Hara (Kieran Bew) approaches Horace to find out what is going on. Bill learns that he is going to be working in accounting. Amos will help him out. Kong storms in to tell Mai Ling and Li Yong that Wu Jin and the other elders are dead. Mai Ling accuses him of trying to turn her own husband against her. Kong tells Li Yong that he’ll stop her if he doesn’t. He can’t believe Li Yong is willing to die for her after everything. They fight for a while until Li Yong gets the better of Kong. He pleads with him to stop.

Kong says Mai Ling will never stop so he can’t either. Li Yong eventually kills him. Mai Ling claims they would’ve destroyed them. She made the choice so he wouldn’t have to and she did it for them. Li Yong asks her to leave him alone. Bill overhears Killy ridiculing Dylan for making it worse for the Donahue brothers. Killy claims Dylan was just stepping on their backs trying to get a leg up. He tells Dylan that he has forgotten himself. Dylan sits with Bill and speaks to him about no longer being a cop. He believes Bill still has sway with the other officers. When Bill refutes that, Dylan suggests they’re no good to anyone then.

Bill changes his mind and tells him to come on since they can’t fire him. He goes to the station and speaks to Stone (Robert Hobbs) and the others. Bill forces them to let the boys go. Chief Atwood (Neels Clasen) shows up and says no one is going anywhere. He tells Harrison to put the prisoners back in their cells and cuff these two. Harrison says he left his cuff upstairs. Bill argues that the boys don’t belong there. They’re going to pay their fines and bring them home. Atwood tells Bill that he’ll make him a wage. If Bill can knock him down, the Donahue boys are free to go. Otherwise, they’ll have to join them. They end up getting locked in a cell together so they can fight.

Atwood beats him up and tells him that the cell is going to be his new home. Bill slams him to the ground before telling him to get on his feet. He says he might not be much of a cop, but Atwood isn’t a chief. He hits him and knocks him out. Ah Sahm tells Yan Mi that Young Jun is getting nervous about the operation. She knows he is worried about her. Ah Sahm says he is trying to close ranks. He recommends thinking about taking that train. Bill makes it back home where Lucy (Emily Child) checks on him and asks what happened. He says he got into a fight with Atwood who had it coming. Bill admits he believes he will be arrested.

He says Young Jun is going to take him to his men and they’re all going to get out of there. Young Jun tries to get him to remember where he is. Father Jun cuts his neck and calls him a traitor. Young Jun gets the knife from him and calms him down. When Douglas returns home, we see that Lai (Jenny Umbhau) is working there as a maid.

Warrior Review

This episode of Warrior was okay although it felt a little dull at points. The story just doesn’t have the same tension as the first two seasons possibly because there is no tong versus tong angle. Everything going on with the Irish and Dylan has been separated from Chinatown as well so that conflict has been minimized.

The stories this season just aren’t clicking with me and they’ve really been all over the place. We’re this close to the finale and there isn’t anything that really gets me excited about it. It is hard to even know who the main villain this season is supposed to be although the most likely is Strickland. I’ve always loved the characters especially Young Jun and Ah Sahm so the potential is still there.

The stories just need to be slimmed down so there can be more focus on its best storylines. The episode scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Warrior can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
