Warrior Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

As the episode begins, we see how Jacob (Kenneth Fok) attacked Mayor Samuel Blake when he was choking his wife. Penelope (Joanna Vanderham) says Samuel tried to kill her before checking on Sophie (Celine Buckens). When Sophie spots Samuel laying in a pool of blood nearby, Jacob drops the fire poke and makes a run for it. He goes to Penny and contemplates what he should do. Penny suggests he should tell the truth and she offers to testify that her life was in danger. Jacob doesn’t like his chances since he killed the mayor and that convinces Penny that they need to get him out of there. She gives him money and recommends taking the train to San Jose. Jacob flees the house moments later. We follow Jacob as he visits his mother to give her medicine.

He tells her that he’ll need to leave for a few days and Chun Hua will come check on her. Jacob takes some of his money and sticks it under his mother’s pillow. When he leaves in the morning, he finds police officers outside looking for him and handing out posters with his face on them. He is nearly caught but manages to escape and find a place to hide. He continues hiding while the police search for him continues outside. At one point, Jacob is forced to flee from his hiding spot. When Wang Chao (Hoon Lee) returns, he realizes that someone has been in his building. He enters with his gun drawn until he finds Jacob who pleads for his help. Wang isn’t eager to help so Jacob offers to pay him. When Chao sees how much money he has, he agrees to help. He takes some of the money and returns some to Jacob while saying he’ll be needing it.

Wang believes it is best for Jacob to cross the salt because they won’t stop until he is caught or dead. Jacob doesn’t want to return to China but he doesn’t have much of a choice. Wang has a plan to send Jacob to China in a coffin and someone will let him out once they reach international waters. Next, Jacob rides along in a coffin until his driver is stopped. Authorities break into the coffin and Jacob is captured. After the intro, Jacob is handcuffed while Richard (Tom Weston-Jones) asks Bill (Kieran Bew) if he got his man but Bill doesn’t want to do this now. Richard is curious as to how Bill knew exactly where Jacob would be and he isn’t satisfied with Bill’s lame excuse. Bill claims Walter Buckley (Langley Kirkwood) got a tip and Lee doesn’t believe they’re getting the full picture.

Mai tells Chao to relax since it is over now. Mai is concerned that everyone in Chinatown will pay for Jacob’s crime and she believes Chao did the right thing. Before long, Bill and the other officers find themselves sounded by angry men who want a chance at the man who killed the mayor. The horses are taken while Tully tries to convince Bill to give them five minutes with Jacob. Bill tries to talk Tully and his men out of it but they attack the police anyway. Jacob watches from inside as the police fight with Tully and his men. The police are overwhelmed and Tully’s men turn their attention to Jacob. Warrior Review

Overall, I guess the episode was decent enough but nothing spectacular or unpredictable. The fight scenes were okay but some were a bit ridiculous. I’ll admit that I tend to skip through them but that is just me because they normally don’t do anything for the story. I guess you have to expect that from a television show like this. I was really hoping they would’ve done something different with Jacob. It is really difficult to believe that the Irish would get so angry by the death of Samuel Blake considering he hadn’t done anything for them anyway.

I can’t believe that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Surely, these people were smart enough to know that Samuel didn’t have their best interest at heart. Furthermore, it was a bit odd to create the Tully character and allow him to rile up the crowd. Where did he come from? How did he suddenly have more control than Dylan Leary who has gone straight after somehow getting a pub and a woman?

I’d say the finale will be predictable as well. We’re going to have a rushed showdown better Ah Sahm and Dylan Leary that will either end with the death of Leary or someone else or something bigger getting in the way. The season has been a bit disjointed considering we started with Ah Sahm fighting for Vega and all of that. Despite these criticisms, I am still enjoying Warrior but I don’t think this season has been as good as the first.

I’d give this episode a 7.5 out of 10. A little more unpredictability would’ve made a big difference. Previous recaps of Warrior are available on Reel Mockery.
