He knows the boys messed up, but he doesn’t think they belong behind bars. Dylan will see what he can do. Ming Yu (Jason Wong) approaches Ah Toy (Olivia Cheng) about getting his women back. They end up fighting. Ah Toy takes care of them with help from Lai (Jenny Umbhau). Dylan and Douglas Strickland (Adam Rayner) visit Walter Buckley (Langley Kirkwood). Douglas says no amount of money will give Walter what he needs to win the race. He spoke to Thayer and he seems to be having second thoughts. Dylan says some people don’t have the stomach for politics. Walter doesn’t like owing people favors. Douglas says they can hand him the race right now, but Walter needs to make sure their interests are looked after. Happy Jack (Nathaniel Ramabulana) finds that Abigail (Gaosi Raditholo) is still upset with him so he tells her not to moan so much.

He is surprised when Richard Lee (Tom Weston-Jones) enters the room. When Wang Chao (Hoon Lee) joins them, Jack says they should’ve stayed where he sent them. He asks what they’re going to do about it before Abigail shoots him. Ah Sahm tells Yan Mi (Chelsea Muirhead) that the deal was done and they only need to ride out of there. Yan believes they have to do something although Ah Sahm says Young Jun doesn’t see it that way. Ah Sahm feels like he messes things up worse when he tries to do something right. Yan believes it means something that he was fighting for what was right during the riot. She wants to show him something because they can’t wait around for things to change.

Yan will continue doing Young Jun’s dirty work for now, but she needs to look after her future. She shows Ah Sahm money that she has been stealing from them. Yan says she has been printing a few extras and Young Jun will not find out. She argues that the money buys her a chance at a future. Ah Sahm asks her to promise that she won’t take any more money. She says okay. Young Jun finds Father Jun (Perry Yung) talking about the military and ships. He tries to calm him once he sees that he is bleeding through his bandage. Dylan goes to the police station where he learns Bill quit. He speaks to Chief Atwood (Neels Clasen) who tells him to come back when he has an appointment. Dylan tells him about the boys and how they’re going through difficult times. Atwood went through difficulty too, but he never brought the law.

Atwood looks at the files for Conor and Garrett Donahue before telling Dylan it is a new day. He isn’t going to turn a blind eye to crime. Atwood is dead certain this is how he wants to play it. Dylan confirms he isn’t Irish before leaving. Bill struggles to keep up with the others at work. He tells the boss, Horace, that he’ll do better tomorrow. Mai Ling (Dianne Doan) catches Ah Sahm and Yan Mi making out at the printer. In private, Mai tells Ah Sahm that she is engaged to Li Yong. She wants him to be at the wedding because Ah Sahm is her brother. He agrees to be there. Mai Ling tells him to bring his friend too. Hong (Chen Tang) hangs out with Marcel (Telly Leung). Bill soaks his body after a difficult day at work. Lucy (Emily Child) tells him about Horace and Ethan.

Lucy believes Horace will have him working the books in no time. Zimo and his friends beat up a man. Abigail asks Richard if he wants to tell her what happened out there, but he’d rather think about the future. She doesn’t think it is going to get any easier. Abigail never told Richard how her husband died. She says Jack’s brother Wesley was a good man. He got into a fight with four white boys and got arrested for it. Wesley resisted arrest and got shot. Abigail doesn’t feel bad about killing Happy Jack because he got enough time. Young Jun confronts Yan Mi with a couple of guys. He wants to ramp up production because splitting the profits with the Long Zii is killing them. Young Jun wants her to train his men so they can work the press too.

He won’t take no for an answer. Edmund Moseley (Nick Cordileone) approaches Richard Lee at the pub. After Richard gives his badge back, Edmund asks what happened to him. He says his family won’t be coming after him anymore so he won’t need the service’s protection. Edmund reminds Richard that he took a bullet for him and someone is going to pay for that. He goes on to say that Richard’s murder charge isn’t going to go away. Edmund won’t help him until he gets the plates. Mai Ling brings Ah Toy and Ming Yu together to try to resolve their issue. Mai Ling admits that Ming’s business is under her protection so she’d like to see him compensated for his loss. When Ah Toy gives him money, Ming calls it an insult.

Mai Ling calms him and says Ah Toy is offering more than he deserves. He accepts the money and leaves. Mai Ling invites Ah Toy to her wedding. Ah Toy believes Mai Ling’s place is traditional like the version the ducks expect. She thinks it is a mistake to believe appealing to them would change how they treat them. Young Jun isn’t happy to learn that Father Jun went out. He orders the men to find him. Dylan Leary learns that an Irish guy got jumped by a mob of Chinese outside the Pearl. He tries to calm them down, but the men aren’t willing to listen. They say it sounds like he has given up. Dylan claims they’re weeks away from having a mayor who will ban Chinese labor once and for all.

He tells them everything he has done for them. Dylan urges them to stay put while he handles the Chinese. He confronts Ah Sahm and says he isn’t there for a fight. Dylan explains what happened and says he is trying to stop it from turning into a full-blown riot. They’ll call it even if the Chinese hand over the boys responsible. Ah Sahm says they’ll do that when they give them the men who robbed one of their grocers. Dylan confirms those men are already locked up. He warns Ah Sahm to keep the Chinese out of their neighborhood. Ah Sahm doesn’t control Chinatown. Dylan says the portrait says otherwise. He agrees to keep his boys in if Ah Sahm can keep his men out. They can prevent a bunch of people from ending up dead.

Ah Sahm eventually says he’ll do what he can. Dylan believes the politicians would love for them to kill each other. Ah Sahm tells Hong to put out the word that anyone who goes into the pond will have to answer to him. Father Jun yells about the Long Zii in the middle of the street. Li Yong (Joe Taslim) comes over when he finds out what is going on. He sends the men away. Young Jun worries about his father since he hasn’t been able to find him. Li Yong brings him back and says he got lost. Father Jun panics until Li Yong tells him it is okay because he is home. Ah Sahm storms into the pub to punish Zimo for what he has done. He tells him that they were close to hell breaking loose because of him.

If the ducks come back, the blood will be on Zimo’s hands. Ah Sahm tells him to warn his friends. Ah Toy watches the scene from above. Ah Sahm speaks to her in private about what happened. They discuss Mai Ling’s wedding. Ah Toy has been saving a dress for a special occasion. Lai watches Strickland from a distance. Thayer approaches Walter to say he is dropping out of the race. Walter is told that he doesn’t have a friend to drink with because everyone knows what kind of man he is. Walter calls Thayer a soft, entitled man. That is why men like Thayer will always be undone by men like Walter. Seconds later, Walter walks into the room with Catherine Archer (Dominique Maher) and kisses her. Young Jun tells Hong about his father and his other problems.

Hong reminds him that Ah Sahm made a deal with Mai Ling to help him. Young Jun doesn’t like that he had to learn what Ah Sahm is up to from Mai Ling. He argues that the Hop Wei has to come first. Young Jun says peace never lasts. When the deal with Mai Ling blows up, he is going to need soldiers who are loyal to him. He isn’t sure about Ah Sahm.

Warrior Review

The third season of Warrior start pretty well only to have fizzled out towards the end of the series. We can only hope something big happens in the next few episodes because the story has ground to a halt at this point. To some degree, it feels like the writers have run out of ideas so they’re quickly reverting back to the stories that worked early on including the Chinese against the Irish and the Long Zii against the Hop Wei.

Allowing Walter Buckley to win the election is another step towards that. While this will make the story much more interesting, it somewhat nullifies everything that has happened during this season. Although this hasn’t been a bad season, it really hasn’t done anything to stand out either.

There needs to be more conflict and action. At the very least, the story makes it appear Warrior is returning to its roots so it’ll hopefully pick up in the latter episodes. This episode scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of Warrior can be found on Reel Mockery here.
