As the episode begins, Percival (Dougray Scott) and Fosco (Riccardo Scamarcio) discuss their options. Fosco is still eager to know what his friend is hiding. However, Percival isn’t going to tell him. Meanwhile, Walter (Ben Hardy) and Marian (Jessie Buckley) care for Laura (Olivia Vinall). Walter wants to bring in a doctor. Marian believes that it would just help Glyde and Fosco find them. Walter explains that they need to gather more evidence. Marian suggests speaking with Anne’s mother. Laura wakes up and wants to know about Anne. Marian breaks the news to her. Glyde puts together a plan to find Hartright. Walter convinces Laura to get away from the roof’s edge. He tells Laura that he still loves her. She isn’t willing to listen.

Marian receives a letter from Fosco. He encourages her to give up and return Anne to the asylum. He also threatens Walter. Walter tries to convince Erasmus Nash (Art Malik) that Anne is actually Laura. Nash isn’t convinced that there is enough evidence just yet. He is also not happy with the escape. The following day, Walter visits Anne’s mother. He learns that she is an enemy to Glyde. However, she isn’t willing to cooperate. He returns and tells Marian all about his visit. They begin chatting about Glyde’s parents. They intend to check the registry for the marriage of Percival’s parents. Walter gives Laura a music box that plays Mozart. Laura remains standoffish. Fosco and Percival learn about Hartright’s visit to Anne’s mother. Marian receives information about the wedding of Glyde’s parents. Walter heads there right away. He learns that the books have been tampered with. There is a good chance that Glyde is illegitimate.

Walter tells the church keeper to watch the books. He leaves to contact his attorney. Marian and Laura reflect on old times. Laura insists that everything has changed. Marian doesn’t believe it. After all, they’re still there. Glyde breaks into the church. He burns the fraudulent documents and tries to burn down the church. He is unable to get the door open. Walter and the church keeper arrive. They try to save Percival, but it is too late. He dies in the fire. Fosco visits Marian in the morning. He tells her about Percival and tells her to stop pursing him or he’ll give up Laura to the asylum. Nash interrupts and Fosco leaves. Nash takes Marian home. He is overtaken by their deep relationship. This convinces Nash to have something to do with his daughter. Walter speaks with Anne’s mother again. He learns that Anne was Laura’s sister. Philip was their father. He demands that she show remorse, but she does not. Walter returns to Laura. She explains that she wants to return home and get Anne’s name on the tombstone.

Walter manages to convince her to overcome her troubles. They share a kiss. Walter speaks with Nash. They contemplate speaking with Pesca (Ivan Kaye). He may know something about Fosco. Walter and Pesca visit the opera. Fosco sees Pesca and rushes out. Pesca tells Walter that he was a member of a secret society back home. Fosco was too, but he betrayed them. They agree to use the information to force Fosco to tell the truth about Laura. Walter returns to Laura. They agree to get married. When Walter tries to leave, Marian stops him. He explains that someone needs to stick around for Laura in case he is killed by Fosco. Walter confronts Fosco. He has a gun pulled on him. Walter demands that Fosco tell the truth. He agrees to let him go afterwards. Fosco agrees. Nash is brought in. Fosco confesses. He explains that Anne died of a heart problem, so they switched her for Laura.

Afterwards, Nash tells Walter that he is going to go see his daughter. Pesca confronts Fosco in the streets. He kills him moments later. Marian, Walter and Laura confront Frederick (Charles Dance). Frederick is forced to apologize and admit that Laura is Laura. We jump forward in time. Laura receives a letter from Marian. She is out traveling. Laura and Walter are living happy together.

 

The Woman In White Review

The Woman In White was pretty good from start to finish. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still entertaining. I didn’t think things would end up so perfectly, but they did. The acting was good as well.
