Daughter Of The Night – The episode opens with the Dark One/ Ishmael (Fares Fares) raising a blood-covered female.

Cairhien – Lady Anvaere Damodred (Lindsay Duncan) is getting dressed when she receives a visitor, Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike). After an awkward greeting in the dining hall, Moiraine asks for her old room back to maintain a low profile while in town. Anvaere agrees before Moiraine is off to meet someone.

While working on the rebuilding of the Inn, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) refuses Selene’s (Natasha O’Keefe) invitation to spend a week at her parent’s cabin near Kinslayer’s Dagger.

White Tower – Egwene Al’Vere (Madeleine Madden) visits Nynaeve al’Meara (Zoe Robins) where she learns of her difficulties sleeping. Egwene reminds her that what she experienced in the arches wasn’t real. Nynaeve attempts to off, but Egwene embraces her assurances that she’s there for her.

Alanna’s Village – Lan Mandragoran aimlessly wanders around a small village while Maksim (Taylor Napier) and Ihvon (Emmanuel Imani) entertain the local children. After lunch with Alanna Mosvani (Priyanka Bose) and her family, she asks about his plans while extending an invitation to accompany her to the Tower tomorrow. She subtly hints at him becoming Nynaeve’s warder by announcing her taking on the trails. He claims he’s not looking to repeat his failure.

Cairhien – Moiraine spends time revisiting various childhood items in her room before meeting Celestin (Marie-France Alvarez) at the Sanatorium. She inquires about Rand before requesting a meeting with Logain Ablar (Alvaro Morte). Logain refuses to share any information until she agrees to assist with his suicide.

White Tower – Egwene and Elayne Trakand (Ceara Coveney) discuss Egwene’s inability to help Nynaeve cope with what happened in the arches. Elayne suggests she stop trying because there is no way Egwene could understand her time in the arches. Egwene claims their relationship started to change the first day they arrived at the Tower.

Nynaeve visits the arena in search of Maksim and Ihvon. A young warder (Leonardo Taiwo) informs her of their absence. She turns down his offer to train her but stops her hasty departure with questions about her trials. While eavesdropping, Liandrin Guirale (Kate Fleetwood) receives word of an invasion in the West. She immediately takes her concerns to Leane Sharif (Jennifer Cheon Garcia) because Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo) is away on business. Before storming off, Liandrin accuses Leane of trying to make Siuan look bad by not acting.

Mountains – Still attempting to elude the Dark One’s caravan, Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) voices his desire to get back to his friends. Elyas Machera (Gary Beadle) grows frustrated and stops when Perrin questions if the wolves are leading them in the right direction. He claims that wolves don’t get lost before explaining how he and Perrin are linked to the wolves. They both then share a vision of a buck fleeing, Elyas attempts to further explain how “wolfbrothers” use the visions to communicate. He claims that although Perrin might not have known it, he’s been sending him visions for months. That’s how he was able to rescue him and Egwene from the “Whitecloaks” several months back.

Alanna’s Village – Lan tries to make sense of the stolen poem when Maksim arrives with requests to help gather water for dinner. During the task, Makism comments on how well Lan is handling the broken bond. Lan admits that Moiraine had cloaked the bond 6 months before, so he’s had plenty of practice.

Near Kinslayer’s Dagger – Rand caves to Selene’s requests to accompany her to the cabin. While enjoying the beauty of the town from the top of a mountain, she admits that the cabin belonged to the only man she ever loved.

Mat Cauthon (Donal Finn) and Min Farshaw (Kae Alexander) spend their first night of freedom drinking and gambling. He suggests she treat them to a room with her earnings. She agrees to treat them to more drinks and rooms, plural. Speaking with the innkeeper, she requests the attic room and asks if her guest has arrived yet. He asks who the guest is. She admits she doesn’t know, but says they will be asking for her so send them up.

Arches – Liandrin bonds with Nynaeve by sharing some background about her son. She says that most people focus on how channeling affects men and overlook how it slows down the aging process of women, forcing them to watch their loved ones die. Liandrin shares the news of the invasion and reports about a group of Shienaran soldiers traveling with an Ogier and blacksmith from Two Rivers.

Alanna’s Village – Makism leads Alanna to the stolen poem in Lan’s room while he’s meditating. She becomes extremely troubled by what she reads.

Cairhien – Anavaere confronts Moriaine with accusations of endangering everything she’s worked for. Anavaere says she might not be able to channel, but her work of rebuilding House Damodred to prominence has been no less demanding. Now, her son is set to marry the queen and she will not risk that. Anavaere further attacks her with reminders that Cairhien is no longer her home and she no longer has the eyes and ears in the city that she once did. Anavaere reveals that she knows about Moiraine’s meetings and inquires about Rand. She offers to share what she knows if Moraine asks nicely.

White Tower – Nynaeve interrupts a conversation between Egwene and Elayne to announce her suspicions of Loial (Hammed Animashaun) and Perrin’s capture in Falme. When Egwene points out that Falme is on the other side of the world, Nynaeve says she isn’t asking her to come along. Although Nynaeve reminds her that leaving could result in her expulsion, Egwene vows to accompany her. While making their escape, they are joined by Elayne and subsequently Liandrin. Liandrin, however, attacks all three of them.

Bar – Min is stunned to learn that her visitor is Ishmael and he wants her to escort Mat to Cairhien.

Near Kinslayer’s Dagger – Rand and Selene are attacked by a fade. He’s bested in the sword battle and forced to use his channeling powers. Selene becomes upset when she realizes he’s been hiding his ability. She questions why he didn’t tell her. When he says he didn’t want her to see him as a monster, she says his ability is part of his nature and he shouldn’t hide it. She claims to have experience with hiding herself from the world and warns that it didn’t end well for her.

Alanna’s Village – Ihvon, Maksim, and Alanna secretly meet to discuss the poem. Alanna reveals that it’s an “Old Tongue” prophecy about Lanfear’s (Daughter of Night/The Forsaken) escape. While Ihvon recites the poem, Selene and Rand are shown getting intimate. After tying his hands, she tells him that she’s also a monster. Before she can reveal herself, Moiraine arrives and slits her throat, freeing Rand. Rand lashes out until she explains who Selene is and what’s going on. As they flee the cabin, Selene is shown coming back to life.

The Wheel Of Time Review

You know an episode is good when you can describe it as action-packed when there was only one real fight scene. Selene’s betrayal was a shocker, but Liandrans not so much. I would give the episode an easy 6 out of 10 and can’t wait to see where it goes from here. It’s hard to imagine only being halfway through the season with everything that’s already happened.
