Perlie prepares to launch the dock. Negan and Maggie discuss his meeting with The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek). He tells her that it may be possible for him to work out a deal with The Croat. She describes the experiences she shared with her sick mother and her daydreams of “Macy’s.” Spotting a vehicle speeding down the street, they rush to the rooftop to get a better view.

Negan and Maggie see smoke billowing upward. He compliments her for getting the smoke right. They discuss Ginny when she tries to attack him with a knife. Knocking the knife out of her hand, he shoves her to the floor. He flees outside to find the perimeter full of walkers. Outside, they come face-to-face again. While he tries to convince her to not do it, she swings her knife in his direction. The altercation comes to an end after he is stabbed and she lands on the lower platform where he eventually joins her. After another failed attack, he convinces her to calm down. He says The Croat never confiscated the “Bricks” grain, only abducted Hershel to get to him. He assures her that they could have rescued Hershel. He says no amount of apologies or excuses will be enough for her. As a group of Burazi emerges from the building, she apprehends him at knifepoint. Elated, The Croat observes from an upper balcony.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Finale Review

Negan is none too happy to find Ginny in Manhattan. To convince her to return to the Bricks, he lies about being her father’s killer. Perlie delivers her to Nina.

Maggie leads Negan into a trap. She made up the story about the grain. The Croat visited the Bricks looking for Negan. Knowing she knew where to find him, he takes Hershel hostage, with the promise of a future exchange. Once the swap is made, she takes a resentful Hershel back to the Bricks and he delivers Negan to The Dama.

Hershel believes Maggie’s need to avenge Glen’s death has overshadowed everything else. She promises to find a way to put it behind her.

The Dama has big plans for Negan. She wants all the settlements united to create a sanctuary that fills the entire island. To ensure he does what she asks, she amputates Hershel’s toe with the threat to collect more body parts.

Perlie is feeling the heat from the new Babylon leader. He lies about killing Negan. She is determined to hear everything he has learned about methane.

The finale wasn’t a complete success. Nearly half of the episode was dedicated to irrelevant reminiscing. It lacked action and suspense, two important elements of a good apocalyptic thriller. Labeling the series a “horror” is a travesty.

British actress, Lauren Cohan’s southern derelict is nowhere accurate. As someone born and raised in Appalachia, it is appalling that British talent is being hired to fill southern roles. I’m sure British fans feel the same.

The “toe” scenario leans toward cringeworthy. Nowhere in the series did it mention the amputation. Convenient to introduce it in the final scene.
