La Dame de Fer – As the fourth episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon begins, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) finds himself locked up with zombies approaching. He yells for Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). As Daryl looks on, Laurent disappears among a horde of zombies. Seconds later, Daryl sees that the boy is fine. Laurent turns around and walks away from Daryl. Then, Daryl kills two zombies underwater before swimming to the surface. After the intro, Daryl walks the streets. He notices zombies nearby and people going about their lives inside. Stephane Codron (Romain Levi) tries to get information about Daryl.

A woman tells him that Daryl came to deliver the boy. She insists Laurent has a higher purpose. Genet (Anne Charrier) asks if it is true. She heard about the special boy from Lourdes. She thought it was foolish although she argues they all desperately want to believe it. The woman says the fools are the ones who put their faith in her because Laurent will save them all. Genet says Laurent gives them false hope. She believes it is a disease that must be rooted out. Codron says he will find both of them. Daryl stops the man on the bike he helped previously. Daryl claims he is going to get the boy and the nun. The man tells him that Le Guerrier wants the boy. He talks about how they’re the enemy.

Daryl asks how he gets to Rue Manuel. Daryl makes the man hide when a car comes. However, the man comes out of hiding when a guy takes his pigeons. After the man gets shot, Daryl attacks the other guys. He tries to tend to pigeon man who asks him to free the pigeons. Daryl sets them free just before the man passes away. Then, Daryl meets Isabelle (Clemence Poesy) and checks on her. She doesn’t know where Laurent is despite searching all night. Daryl says he is likely fine because he is a smart kid, but Isabelle argues he doesn’t know Paris. Daryl has an idea. Anna Valery approaches Quinn (Adam Nagaitis) to tell him about a guy in Saint-Denis who harvested truffles.

Anna believes she is gone for good because women need a good reason to come back. Seconds later, Quinn is told that something happened in Montmartre so the American is still around. The Guerrier are out for him and the boy. Quinn questions what they want with the boy. Laurent walks alone while Isabelle and Daryl look for him. Daryl insists this isn’t all her fault. He said some stuff he shouldn’t have said and he knows Laurent heard him. Isabelle believes she should’ve been honest with him long ago. Laurent makes it to the Eiffel Tower. As he gets closer, he is approached by a horde of zombies. When Daryl and Isabelle arrive, they begin killing the zombies.

Laurent hides and watches them. A group grabs Laurent and takes him away in a car. Daryl and Isabelle interrogate one of the men who failed to escape. Isabelle talks to the man about being religious and whether he’d like a chance to repent. She offers to let him walk away if he tells them where they took the boy. The man says they told him it was a real party with ‘ol Issa. He knows that Isabelle is just a thieving harlot. Isabelle says she knows who has Laurent. Meanwhile, Laurent hangs out with Anna and Quinn. Laurent knows Quinn used to be friends with his aunt Isabelle. He also knows that Quinn is his father. Quinn questions how he figured that out.

Laurent reveals his aunt only said her father was brave and went away to fight the hungry ones. Quinn claims he saved Laurent from the ones at the tower. He goes on to say he wants to take care of him and make up for lost time. When Laurent asks about Isabelle and Daryl, Quinn says Isabelle will join them soon. The captive asks Isabelle if Daryl knows what kind of girl she used to be. He tells Daryl that she is a very bad girl. Daryl asks what Quinn wants with the boy, but the captive isn’t going to help them. Daryl begins hitting the man and tells him about a boy named Jimmy who was a runt. His drunk dad wanted to kill the piglet Jimmy got for Christmas.

If he doesn’t do it, his brother’s going to get a beating. Jimmy ties it up to a tree in the backyard. By trying not to hurt the pig, he ends up hurting it worse. After that, no one ever messed with Jimmy anymore. The captive eventually says Quinn thinks he can use the kid to get what he wants. Isabelle says Quinn is using Laurent to get to her. Daryl believes there should be another way in since they can’t go through the front door. Isabelle asks the captive how to get into the Demimonde. The captive says it is impossible. Daryl tells Isabelle she might want to leave unless she wants to hear the pig scream. Before Daryl can kill the man, he screams that there is a way in although it is dangerous.

Daryl doesn’t want a map and instead wants the captive, Armand, to come with them. As they leave, Daryl insists he made up the stuff about Jimmy. They catch up with the others as Isabelle says a man named Azlan from the nest will be waiting for them with a boat. Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney) says they’ll go in as one and come back as one. Isabelle wants to tell Daryl something, but he tells her to wait until they get to the river. As they approach Azlan, Sylvie asks Isabelle if she has had romantic feelings for anyone since she took the vows. Sylvie admits she just kissed Emile. She’d like to stay in Paris so she can be a part of the community they’re building. Azlan greets them and asks about the boy.

Quinn hangs out with Codron and Genet. He tells Genet he brought her there to negotiate for the American. Quinn says he wants Monet’s Japanese Footbridge. Genet says he can have it because impressionism is degenerate art. When asked about the boy, Quinn denies having him. Once they’re alone, Genet tells Codron they can’t let the boy leave Paris. Anna suspects Quinn is keeping the kid to get Isabelle back. She only told him about the Eiffel Tower so he could get the reward and not lock the boy up in some room. Quinn gives her a gun and asks her to keep Laurent safe. Armand leads Daryl to the possible entrance. Quinn tells Anna that he won’t have to find the American because the American is coming to him.

While Daryl and Armand go into the tunnel, Emile and the others try shooting their way in. Armand gets injured. After Armand tells Daryl where to go, Daryl leaves him to be devoured by the walkers. Emile gets shot but refuses to leave until they’ve finished the job. Daryl manages to sneak inside. Laurent talks to Anna about the Eiffel Tower. She hopes he gets to go home soon since she wants him to be where he is happiest. Laurent thinks she is nice although she doesn’t want people to believe that. Daryl barges in to take Laurent, but Anna holds them at gunpoint. She puts it down and tells them to go. Quinn learns that they were tricked by a diversion. He goes back inside and gets into a fight with Daryl.

After Daryl knocks him out, he tells Laurent to come. Fallou and Emile make it back to Isabelle and Sylvie. Fallou tells Isabelle that Genet is putting guards at the city limits so there will be no way out soon. Daryl and Laurent arrive seconds later. Isabelle says the Guerrier are overtaking the city. She needs someone with influence. Isabelle doesn’t think any of them will make it out unless she returns to Quinn. She’ll figure a way out once she knows Laurent is safe. Isabelle asks Laurent to trust her since he’ll be safe with Daryl. Moments later, Daryl ends up leaving with Laurent. Isabelle goes back to Quinn.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Review

The fourth episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon had more action and less dialogue as Daryl attempted to get Isabelle and Laurent out of danger. In some ways, the episode made things a bit too easy for Daryl. After the pigeon man died, he effortlessly ran into Isabelle and the showdown with Quinn wasn’t much either.

The series needs to do a little more to develop and properly introduce the side characters if they’re going to use them regularly. After all, it is sometimes difficult to remember who is who from week to week and the lack of cast on IMDB doesn’t help. Overall, the episode was decent even if it had some believability issues.

It scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon are available on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
