The Twelve Season 1 Episode 10 Recap – The episode begins with Belinda Bain (Charlotte Lucas) posing for young Steve Dokic (Joshua Brennan). Young Kate Lawson (Jade Potts) watches while Dokic fixes Belinda’s hair before another shot.

Back to the present, Brett Colby (Sam Neill) shows Kate Lawson (Kate Mulvany) a social media post, accusing her of killing before. He suggests the prejudicial post warrants a request to have the jury discharged. After telling him that Dokic was into schoolgirl photography, she admits to having sex with him at 14 years old. She says Dokic suggests getting Belinda involved.

In a flashback, young Dokic is strangling Belinda while they’re having sex. Belinda struggles to breathe until he stops. He assures her that she loved it before going for a shower. When Kate tries to stop Belinda from leaving, she confesses to hating her. Kate reminds her of how she volunteered to come. Belinda says she wasn’t aware Dokic strangled schoolgirls in his sex dungeon. After she threatens to report him to the police, Kate shoves her down the steps before leaving.

Back to the present, Kate tells Colby that Dokic discovered her at the bottom of the steps. She tells him that she felt he deserved it. Colby asks if anyone knew what happened. She claims to have confessed to Diane Speakers (Jenni Baird) and Robbie Lawson (Oscar Redding) before they told Andrew Lawson (Julian Garner) who called the police. She tells him that Andrew forced her to tell the police that she saw Belinda and Dokic having sex. She says Dokic told the police that he was transporting Belinda to the hospital when he was caught putting her body in his car. Colby assures her that Dokic’s case has nothing to do with her trial. She tells him that the trial must move forward.

Lucy Bloom (Marta Dusseldorp) and Colby speak with Judge Muir (James Lugton) about Dokic’s social media post. Muir tells them that mainstream media would violate the suppression order if they report on the post. Bloom suggests Colby found grounds to discharge the jury after Kate testified in her own defense. Colby informs Muir that he plans to request the jury be sequestered. After reminding them of the resources utilized to make the trial happen, Muir approves Colby’s sequester request.

Simon Cavanaugh (Nicholas Cassim) speaks to Ava Cavanaugh (Olivia Allen) about her disappearance. After an apology, she requests to see Joe and do her art. He agrees to her request if she promises to communicate. Ava rushes over to hug Emily Cavanaugh (Rachel Gordon).

Jamie Merrick (Hamish Michael) asks Georgina Merrick (Brooke Satchwell) if she’s okay with leaving Alice Merrick (Victoria Bradman), Oscar Merrick (Gilbert Bradman), and Marcus Merrick (Alastair Bradman) with a tattoo artist. She assures him that Joe won’t be around. He suggests she tell the court that she must leave today due to his new job. She refuses to do as he asks.

Alexi Menelaus (Damien Strouthos) tells Flip Menelaus (Ben Mingay) that the sale of their business must be put on hold. Flip assures him that no one knows about Luis Alves (Will Santana). Alexi admits to telling someone about what happened to Luis. Flip says if their father, Nikolaos Menelaus (Lex Marinos) knew he was a “pu**y,” he wouldn’t have appointed him CEO of his business.

Vanessa Young (Catherine Van-Davies) becomes so upset while packing her suitcase that she jumps inside it.

Garry Thorne (Brendan Cowell) sees Dokic’s social media post. He apologizes to Georgina for hitting Jamie. She informs him that Jamie is moving the family to Mount Isa. After warning her that Jamie is going to isolate her in a rural area, he suggests she make an escape plan. They discuss Ava’s disappearance with Simon.

Judge Muir asks the jury if they saw a social media post about Kate. No one, including Garry, admitted seeing the post. The jurors return to the jury room to collect their room keys. Georgina asks the female Sheriff (Deborah Jones) why she didn’t get a room key. The Sheriff tells her that alternate jurors are not requested to sequester. Garry admits to seeing Dokic’s social media post.

Allen Quigley (Dorian Nkono) and Otto (Toby Schmitz) meet Garry as he leaves the courthouse. He claims the jurors voted him out but kept the hotel key. Otto warns him that with him out, they must get a mistrial. Allen suggests all the jurors need to see Dokic’s social media post.

Lily Powell (Bishanyia Vincent) tells the other jurors that she believes Nathan Spears (Matt Nable) murdered Claire Spears (Coco Jack Gillies).

Colby and Ezekiel Aku (Mandela Mathia) decide which jurors will find Kate guilty. They say Margaret Brown (Gennie Nevinson) believes Kate is guilty and Lily not guilty. They both agree that Simon and Peter Brodsky (Daniel Mitchell) will vote guilty. Vanessa and Jarrod Saunders (Ngali Shaw) will vote not guilty, and Alexi and Farrad Jassim (Jazem Shammas) will vote guilty. They believe number 8 juror (Toby Blome), Georgina, and Corrie D’Souza (Pallavi Sharda) are questionable.

Ava feeds the kids while Jamie boxes up their belongings. Jamie reads Ava’s message, “Skye Hotel,” from Simon.

At Skye Hotel, Jamie watches as Garry enters the elevator. Georgina asks Garry how he found her. After admitting to taking one of her door keys, he says there is a place for her to go after the trial is over. He informs her that a woman is offering her to stay in her beach house. Vanessa stops by to see if she would like to join her at the pool. Jamie watches Georgina leave with Vanessa and Garry emerge from her room.

When Georgina enters the restroom, Jamie grabs her by the throat. While strangling her, he accuses her of having sex with Garry. Vanessa calls for help while pulling him off of Georgina. Jamie runs past the pool, with Alexi and Jarrod in toll. Vanessa asks her who was the creep. She tells her that he’s her husband.

Farrad finds a copy of Dokic’s social media post. He advises the other jurors to not read it. Lily already read it.

Jamie is transported to jail. Corrie speaks with a uniform cop (Luke Magson). Jarrad sees Garry standing across the street.

The jurors meet to discuss the social media post. Simon admits to reading it. Jarrad suggests it was Garry because he was across the street. Georgina tells them that Jamie would do anything to get her back home. The jurors agree to deliberate in the morning.

The jurors discuss the case while having breakfast. Lily tells them that Nathan feared losing Sonia Spears (Silvia Colloca) and her money. Corrie reminds them of there being no body. Alexi asks who was in the house with Claire before accusing Kate of molesting Claire. Irate, Vanessa asks Alexi how he can confuse criminality with homosexuality and mental illness before calling it quits.

Georgina asks Vanessa if she’s going back. Vanessa tells her that she or the other jurors are wrongly judging Kate. Georgina says Ava and Emily are caring for her children. After a revote, three jurors vote Kate not guilty, eight vote her guilty, and one is undecided. Corrie informs them that Muir orders them to continue deliberating until they get a unanimous decision. Jarrad asks how is it possible to achieve unanimity when number 8 never talks. Number 8 insults several jurors.

Peter doesn’t realize Margaret has fallen asleep when he says they understand each other. He covers her up.

Lily visits juror number 8’s motel room. When she accuses him of hiding, he admits to having social anxiety. He assures her that he’s listening. She suggests he’s a Gemini. He identifies himself as Ethan.

In the pool, Vanessa removes her bikini top in front of Simon. He assumes she’s a lesbian. He tells him that she’s human.

While staring out at the city, Alexi tells Corrie that Luiz fell from about the same distance. She questions if he’s going to turn himself in to the police. He shakes his head. She reminds him of Flip. He explains his plan to accept all the blame. She says he doesn’t have to do it. He asks how will he ever looks his children in the eye.

Vanessa talks to Simon about her mental issues.

Zoe (Sheridan Harbridge) arrives home to find it a mess. A mirror message in red lipstick reads “I fu**inng love you.”

Simon asks if they can all agree that Kate is capable of killing. After discussing the case, Farrod reads Colby’s closing remarks. Jarrad suggests he help them avoid a hung jury. Farrod tells them to focus on the four jurors who doubt Kate’s guilt. Trevor Morros (Warren Lee) refuses to explain why he believes Kate is innocent. After Ethan asks about his opinion, Trevor says she’s guilty. Jarrad admits to believing Kate isn’t the killer but disposed of the body before declaring her guilty. Alexi tries to convince Corrie to vote guilty but she refuses. Margaret is pressured into voting guilty.

Colby alerts Kate that the jury has a verdict. Corrie reads the guilty verdict. Bloom has a smile on her face. Garry smiles at Georgina.

Alexi talks to his children and ex-wife. Showing Margaret an article in which Dokic accuses Kate of a previous murder, Peter assures her that she did the right thing.

Farrod convinces Muir to write a letter to support Jarrad in transferring his degree to law. Muir agrees.

Bloom watches while immigration lawyer, Paul Grey (George Serour) meets with Farrod.

Colby assures Kate that there is ample evidence for an appeal. Kate denies murdering Claire before telling him the negatives from the night of Claire’s disappearance are hidden in her studio behind a photo. He tells her that Diane denied the negatives were in her possession. She says Claire accidentally strangled herself while completing the final piece. He asks if she had evidence to prove her innocence all along. Kate repeats, “She was dead, it was too late.” Colby tells her that he should’ve withdrawn from her case. Irate, she reminds him of what he said about getting an acquittal with no body.

Kate admits to placing Claire’s body in the boat. She claims Diane didn’t want her to hand the photos over to the police for fear Belinda’s story would surface. She says Diane assured her the photos would be there if she was found guilty. Colby steps down as her attorney.

Otto scolds Colby for failing Kate. He assures him that Claire held the power before accusing him of missing it.

A female police officer takes Alexi’s fingerprints while Corrie sits in the waiting room.

Simon installs Ava’s bedroom door as she works on her tattoos.

Vanessa returns home to find Zoe waiting on her. Zoe and Vanessa profess their love for each other through a lipstick message on their bedroom mirror.

Allen orders Garry to get in his car. Garry discovers his dog’s collars and leashes lying on the front passenger seat.

Georgina leaves Jamie.

Diane takes down Claire’s photos when Colby shows up. He finds the envelope taped to the back of Kate’s photo. It’s empty. Colby watches as Diane burns the negatives when the episode comes to an end.

 

The Twelve Finale Review

We have witnessed incompetent writing at its best. The jury has spent the days in the courtroom and the remainder of their time doing as they pleased throughout the trial. Now that it’s time to deliberate, they are being forced to sequester. Who rights this stuff?

I felt the sex scene was inappropriately unnecessary. 14-year-old Belinda feared for her life while pedophiliac Dokic strangled her with her own tie. As I said before, this is grooming of a young school-aged girl. I’m appalled that some of Australia’s best actors would agree to star in this almost X-rated show.

The “entitled white male” statement was repulsive. The show touches on nearly every social media issue. To be honest, I would’ve never stuck around if it weren’t for the trial. The rest is nothing but empty filler.

The show puts juries in a bad light. The prosecution and jurors violated laws at every turn. By rights, the trial could’ve easily been declared null and void at least a dozen times. Instead, the trial goes on and Kate is found guilty by 11 incompetent jurors.

The story in which Claire conceals evidence that could prove her innocence is uncompelling. Even a sociopathic murderer would do whatever is necessary to prove their guilt. Every piece of relevant evidence would’ve been brought forward.

It also seems as if Bloom had a deal with Farrod to secure her the guilty verdict. Throughout the trial, he portrayed himself as a fair and impartial juror. After the jury finds Kate guilty, he is rewarded with an immigration attorney.

It is questionable if a judge would agree to write a referral for a juror. Muir appeared to be on the right side of the law, but was he?

There’s no evidence that police ever declared Luis’s death a homicide. If there is no homicide, why would Alexi turn himself in? Luis’s death was an accident, not a murder. It could’ve happened to any worker, legal or illegal. Alexis turning himself in was a bit futile.

In reality, police would’ve charged Diane with tampering with evidence. After wasting an hour of airtime, the show abruptly ends, leaving more questions than answers.

The only likeable juror was Corrie. The rest were nothing more than talking heads.

A lackluster finale. Too much filler and not enough time devoted to the trial. Here is another crew more interested in scoring a second season than resolution.
