She recommends doing a test without getting their mom involved, but Jamie isn’t sure he can deal with this anymore. Losing Liam was the worst thing to ever happen to him so he doesn’t want to go through that again. Will sits in his car and plays a video game on his phone. Christine goes to Kayla’s house to grab her stuff and finds drugs in her green jacket. She imagines Liam is standing next to her. Christine visits Beth (Lisa Palfrey) and Joe (Christian Patterson). They invite her to stay, but she needs to get ready for wedding preparations. Beth shows her the cake she made and offers to do everything she can. They talk about Harry before Christine reminds her that he abandoned the kids 20 years ago. Once Christine leaves with the cake, Beth talks to Joe about the kids and how this is impacting them.

She explains that the test rules out Christine but not Harry so he could be the key to all this. Joe thinks she should mind her business because he isn’t going to let her put herself in danger again. He argues she is putting herself at risk for a family that isn’t hers. Joe gets a call from the school so he has to leave. Will makes it home and learns that Alfie had another tantrum after school. He tells Samantha that the counselor was better than he thought before admitting that he hated it. He’ll keep going because that is what they agreed to. At home, Megan and Christine look through some of their old belongings. Megan knows it must’ve been difficult so she appreciates what Christine did for them. The next day, everyone prepares for Megan’s wedding. Gethin (Jacob Ifan) welcomes guests outside the church. Kate (Elizabeth Berrington) arrives and tells Christine that she doesn’t often get the chance to dress up.

He shows her the thumb drive that he stole and intends to use it as leverage. Christine reminds him that it was breaking and entering so he broke the terms of his bail. Christine pleads with him not to do this today before Connor walks into the church. Kate tries to find out what is going on but Christine won’t tell her. Christie goes inside and tells Will about Connor, but she urges him not to cause a scene. Alfie tells her that dad made him wear a tie. Jamie and Megan visit Liam’s grave. Christine eventually agrees because it is Megan’s day. She goes outside and tells herself that Connor will not ruin this day. Back inside, Jamie tells Connor that he was doing fine before he met him, but the panic attacks are back now. He claims Connor is making things harder. Connor insists Christine is a liar. Jamie tells him to shut up and leave him alone before leaving. Beth talks to Kate about Connor and how much he looks like Liam. Beth’s bet is on Harry putting it about. As they see Joe talking to another woman, Beth says the problem with men is that you don’t know which brain is in charge on any given day.

Beth says it is tough on the kids so she wishes she could help, but Kate reminds her that it isn’t any of their business. Jamie is surprised when Owain (Callum Hymers) arrives and learns that Megan invited him. He introduces Owain to his godmother Kate. She got him into photography by giving him his first camera when he was 12. Kate suggests it could be their wedding next only to find out that Owain is moving to London soon. Jamie didn’t know. Owain says he looks fit in that suit although he thinks he’d look even better out of it before kissing him. Will tells Megan that their mom is upset and it is her responsibility to send Connor home. Megan and Gethin aren’t eager to kick him out even though Will says he would if he were a man. Gethin tells him to back off. Connor introduces himself to Kate and says he is trying to make it not weird. He knows that they used to work together. Kate finds that odd.

Christine comes over and separates them. Kate tells her how Beth keeps asking questions about Harry. Once Christine reveals that Connor has the USB, Kate questions what they’re going to do. Christine doesn’t know although she insists she will handle it. Christine goes to her vehicle and looks at the GHB vials. She says it is really easy to overdose with GHB. Owain and Jamie go to a private place with the intention of having sex, but Jamie stops him to ask why he didn’t say he was leaving. Jamie thought it was more than just having fun. He thought it’d mean something for Owain to be invited to his sister’s wedding. After Owain says they’re not married, Jamie storms out of the room. When Christine sees Connor playing with Alfie, she begins pouring the GHB into one of the beers. She gives it to Connor as a peace offering and asks for today. He says he’ll see what he can do. When he checks on her, Christine says she’s made a mistake so she gets up and leaves. Jamie questions Connor what he thought was going to happen today. Connor claims Christine twisted everything to make him look like the bad guy. He thinks she is a bad mother who has brainwashed Jamie. Then, Jamie suggests she was right that Connor only cares about himself and not their family.

Connor reminds him what Christine did to them. He doesn’t think she can be a good mother when Liam is buried in the ground. Connor argues that Liam was weak for not standing up to her and found it easier to be a junkie. Jamie gets upset and smashes his bottle over Connor’s head. He apologizes before Connor falls back and hits his head. When Connor doesn’t respond, Jamie runs for assistance. Once he reaches his mother, he asks her to get a doctor. Christine gets Will before asking Jamie to show them what happened. Megan notices what is going on so she decides to follow them out. Will and the others find Connor and suspect that he is dead. After Megan finds them, her mother instructs her to go back inside. Jamie insists it was an accident. Megan quickly learns that nobody has called an ambulance. Will tells them that it isn’t working so they suspect that Connor is gone. Jamie begins breaking down as he promises he didn’t mean it. Although Megan wants to call the police, Christine argues they can’t do that because Jamie hit him with a bottle. Megan is told to go inside because they’ll sort it out. She is reminded that she’ll have to pretend nothing happened for the sake of her brother. Christine insists she’ll call the police. Megan is sent inside to cover for them while they stay outside to deal with Connor’s body. Once Megan is gone, Christine confesses that she isn’t going to call the police. Megan hugs Gethin and pretends like everything is okay. She spots blood on her dress so she quickly hides it.

Will worries that the police will believe he was involved in this. Christine is adamant that they have to make Connor disappear. She tells Will to think about Sam, the businesses, and what this would do to them. Christine believes they can say that he left because people like Connor slip through the system every day. She tells Will that there is a way out if they do this right. Will is told that Jamie can help him get Connor’s body out of there and they need to do it now. Jamie can help him get it to the car before he comes back because it would be suspicious with both of them gone. Christine tells Will that they have to stick together because Connor will win if the police find him. Before they take his body, Christine steals the USB stick and phone from his pocket. Will turns his phone off and Christine turns off Connor’s phone. While they deal with the body, Christine tries to get rid of the blood.

The Pact Review

The second season of The Pact has some obvious flaws preventing it from being better, but it still has some excellent aspects. Some of the performances seem a bit odd at times although the main characters are portrayed reasonably well. The credibility of the story and the characters’ actions could easily be picked apart all day long since there are so many unbelievable moments. Another issue is the fact that the pace is pretty slow.

On the other hand, the story this season has been better than that of the first season. It could potentially transform into something bigger in the blink of an eye as was evident in this episode. The characters are likable enough and their personalities balance one another even though Christine is calling the shots. Through three episodes, I’ve found the story fairly interesting to the point that I genuinely want to know what will happen next.

However, I am slightly concerned about the second half of the season since Connor is potentially gone now. Will the series be able to maintain its momentum without this pivotal character? The third episode was mostly entertaining thanks to the arguments at the wedding and Connor’s death. It scores a 6.5 out of 10. Recaps of The Pact are available on Reel Mockery here.
