The Pact Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

As the second season of The Pact begins, we see someone breaking into a house and climbing through the window. The intruder looks at family pictures and flips through the vinyl records in the house. When Christine (Rakie Ayola) arrives outside, the man quickly steals a picture and tries to escape the house without being caught. Christine closes the window. She hears something upstairs so she yells to see if it is Megan (Mali Ann Rees). Christine goes upstairs to look around. She opens one of the bedroom doors as the intruder hides behind it. Christine sees nothing out of the ordinary so she decides to leave. After the intro, Christine calls Jamie (Aaron Anthony) to ask if he is at work and whether Megan is there. Once she finds out that Megan is at work, Christine ends the call and leaves home. The intruder flees the property immediately after she is gone.

Christine goes to work where she apologizes to Kayla (Kristy Philipps) for being late. In private, Kayla admits she doesn’t think she is cut out to care for the baby because he’ll be relying on her all the time. Christine tries to convince her otherwise by calling her one of the most capable young girls she has ever met. Kayla insists she isn’t still using. Christine wants her to tell her or Dr. Evans if she is using. Kayla won’t tell Dr. Evans because he is a twat. Kayla is surprised she has sleepless nights, but Christine admits they all do at some point. When Kayla mentions Liam, Christine reminds her that they’re not here to talk about him. Christine knows how scary this is, but Kayla gets to write a new chapter in her life. Jamie and Megan talk about the menu. She is eager for him to go back to the university. Megan’s wedding dress arrives seconds later.

Jamie admits he never thought he’d see her in a wedding dress or find anyone she is serious about. He wishes Liam could’ve seen it. Christine’s coworker Beth (Lisa Palfrey) asks if she can get a ride from her. When they leave, they’re stalked by the man who was in Christine’s house earlier. When they get into Christine’s car, Beth says she is wondering if Joe is seeing someone else. Christine has trouble getting her vehicle started so Beth recommends replacing it. She says she doesn’t need a big family car anymore before quickly apologizing because she wasn’t thinking. They go for a drink and talk about Christine’s conversation with Kayla. Beth tells her that it is okay to have a wobble every now and then. Christine tells her about going into Liam’s room today. She still sees him sometimes and wonders if that is crazy. Christine talks about how her family is quickly changing.

Beth believes it is time for her to start moving on. Gethin visits the restaurant to tell Megan that she needs to sort this out. Megan asks Jamie about walking her down the aisle. Jamie says he’d love to do that. She mentions that he doesn’t have a boyfriend. Jamie goes to the fish and chips shop where the clerk tells him he likes his new eyeliner. He makes a mess before getting embarrassed and leaving in a hurry. When Jamie reaches his bike and begins unlocking it, the stranger approaches him to say he wants to talk. The man (Jordan Wilks) uncovers his face and says he thinks he is his brother. Connor says he just wants to talk and doesn’t want to upset him. He grew up not knowing who his real parents were and has been looking for them for a long time. Connor would like to figure it out together. Once Jamie refuses to go somewhere with him, Connor asks if he can give him his phone number.

Jamie gives Connor his phone so he can add his phone number. Before giving the phone back, Connor says he’ll be around for a day or two even though he isn’t local. Jamie returns to Megan to tell her about the encounter. He confesses that the man looked like Liam. They question whether that is possible even though Jamie knows what he saw. Megan suggests he saw what he wanted to see since she sees Liam all the time. Once she asks what he knows, Jamie says his name is Connor and he didn’t have a list of questions prepared. Will (Lloyd Everitt) answers his phone and says he is busy. Christine returns home to find it empty since Megan and Jamie are not there. Will meets with the others to say they don’t have another brother. Jamie reminds them that they used to. Megan suggests calling the police. Will sarcastically says they can tell them that Jamie is having another breakdown.

Jamie mentions that they were supposed to be having a birthday dinner for Liam today. Will asks Jamie to text him Connor’s number before he is asked what he is going to do. They go home with the fish and chips. Will tells Christine that they’re about to sign off on the environmental stuff at work and start construction soon. Jamie is forced to tell her about Connor who says he is their brother. Christine confirms that they had another brother but he died. She says it is impossible since she’d know if she had another child. They end up getting into an argument about it. Jamie wonders what they should do and whether they should talk to him. Christine is mad that someone would make it up and that Jamie would believe it. Later, Will comes back and tells Jamie and Megan that he talked to mom and they agree that the man is not their brother. Megan isn’t willing to give up that easily though.

Will suggests the guy just wants attention or something so they should ignore him. If he tries anything, Will promises to deal with it. Once he is gone, Jamie and Megan have dinner with Christine. They want to know more about their father, but Christine isn’t eager to talk about the past. She claims she came home one day and their father was gone. Although she doesn’t think the boy is part of their family, Jamie says it was like Liam was standing right in front of him. Later that night, Connor steals a woman’s purse. Christine calls Kate (Elizabeth Berrington) to ask for her help. Kate is told more about Connor so she can try to find out what she can about it. She tells Christine to leave it with her. At home, Will tells Samantha that he believes what his mother said. She suggests his mom has him wrapped around her finger like always. Will thinks it is all a mistake. She surprised him when she reveals Alfie (Kaylen Luke) said he saw Uncle Liam outside the house.

Will calls Connor to tell him to leave his family alone. Connor asks if he is speaking to Will only to be told to leave town tonight. He threatens to kill Connor if he comes around his family again. After the call, Connor gets a message from Megan who wants to meet. In the morning, Megan tells Jamie that she is going to listen to his story and send him on his way. Their mom interrupts to say she made them coffee. Christine suggests she is getting married too quickly, but Megan says she is marrying Gethin and that is the end of it. Christine finds Jamies having cake for breakfast downstairs. She admits it feels like they don’t need her anymore. Christine believes people like that get their kicks preying on people’s grief. Christine goes to the police station where she asks DS Pritchard (Matthew Gravelle) for information about Connor. Megan is surprised when she sees Connor walking towards her table. Gethin joins them seconds later.

Megan says he looks just like her brother. She has many questions although she doesn’t know where to start. Connor starts by saying he grew up in care. He got passed around to lots of different families and wondered why he never fit in. Although he always asked about his real parents, he never got any answers. He felt incomplete like a piece of his soul was missing. Beth invites Christine over for dinner after work, but Christine refuses. Kate calls to tell Christine she hasn’t found anything on the database. She is checking the archives. Since it is a needle in a haystack, she is going to need more information to go on. Pritchard emails Christine with what he has found. She storms out of her workplace. Connor tells Megan that he never gave up until he saw Liam’s picture on Jamie’s blog. He left it for a bit after finding Liam’s memorial page until he remembered that he had brothers and a sister.

On his birthday, he decided to get on the train to come and see them. When asked about social media, he says he doesn’t have a reason to do what with his crappy life. Connor learns that their father left when they were kids and Christine is denying everything. Their father touches a nerve with her because he was something she couldn’t control. In private, Megan admits to Gethin that she doesn’t think he is dangerous even though he might be messed up. She decides to go for a walk with Connor to learn more about him. He says it must be nice to belong somewhere. He lives in Bristol now and plays a little guitar if he is drunk enough. Connor says she should hear his Rage Against the Machine. Megan finds that funny since it was Liam’s favorite band and he played guitar. Connor learns that Liam overdosed after he was messed up for a long time. They never knew why although they tried to help him. Megan asks if he wants to see him.

As they walk away, Will watches them from his vehicle before he gets a call from his mom. Connor and Megan go to Liam’s grave. Megan says he was cool when he wasn’t off his head. When asked if she believes him, Megan admits she doesn’t know what to believe. He wonders why her parents would abandon him and asks if she could speak to her. Her mom shut it down because she needs to be in control. Will meets with his mom to say he looks just like Liam. She shows him the files so he’ll know who they’re dealing with. Christine is adamant that they have to do something. Megan meets with Jamie and suggests getting a DNA kit. She believes it might help them if he is their brother. Will gives them the files and says he has been taking them for a ride. Christine meets with Louise after seeing her restraining order in the file. She admits that he stalked them for nine months because he was obsessed and convinced he was her husband’s son.

They weren’t his first either. She warns Christine that he’ll fill her kids’ heads with stupid ideas and she’ll lose them too. Christine wants to know what she is dealing with and how to get rid of him. Tilly believes giving him money will be the only thing that will work. By then though, it was already too late. Will and a friend confront Connor who tries to run from them. He manages to get away from them by hiding under a train. As he walks back, Will jumps up and hits him in the face with something. Later, Christine goes into an apartment and finds pictures of her family on the wall. Connor asks what he should call her. When she says she isn’t his mother, Connor questions why she is breaking into his flat. He knew it wasn’t going to be easy meeting them, but he wasn’t expecting all of this. He didn’t come to her first because he was angry that a woman left him in a toilet block. Connor wants to know why she left him and kept someone like Will who is capable of beating him.

Christine insists she would never abandon a baby and that he isn’t a part of her family. They argue about that before Christine says she looks forward and not back. She asks him to stop trying to make coincidence his reality before giving him nearly 2,000 pounds. Connor doesn’t want her money. He believes she is trying to pay him off so she can ditch him all over again. He’ll find out what happened himself and the others will find out what kind of mother she really is. Christine warns him that he doesn’t want to cross her.

The Pact Review

The first episode of the second season of The Pact did a good job of setting up the story and introducing the main characters. The story has the potential to be very interesting down the stretch as Christine attempts to prevent a potential secret from coming out to her children. How far will Connor go to find and reveal the truth to his possible siblings? The basics of the story are interesting although the first episode probably won’t have a lasting impact.

The acting is mostly okay and the characters could be interesting enough to carry the series. The issue is the fact that the first episode was pretty tedious and there are still five episodes ahead. In terms of quality, it aligns closely with the first season which I couldn’t write home about anyway. With the episode count, I am not sure the second season can be impactful enough when it needs to be.

If it doesn’t pick up, viewers are likely going to get bored midway through the season. Other than that, the show could be decent since the acting is okay, the camera work is good, and the story has the police to be intriguing. The first episode scores a 6 out of 10.
