The Night Agent Season 1 Episode 10 Finale Recap

Fathers – As the finale of The Night Agent begins, Peter plays basketball with his father eleven years ago. Alex arrives with other officers and tells Peter that they need to search his place. When he asks if he is under arrest, Alex says not yet. They just want his hard drives and phones right now. Petey has to hand over his phone too. In the present, Diane Farr (Hong Chau) tells Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) that she didn’t know about the metro bombing until after the fact. When she claims this happens all the time, Peter thinks she is just trying to justify her actions.

She wishes she could’ve stopped Wick and Redfield from having the metro bombed, but covering for it was non-negotiable for her. If Travers hadn’t ordered a Night Action, none of this would’ve happened. After they found out that the Campbells met with Zadar, they had to assume they told him he was the real target. The investigation had to be shut down. Peter wants to know why she picked him for Night Action. Diane thought she could count on him and hoped she wouldn’t need to control him. Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) argues that Diane murdered her aunt and uncle because they found out what she was doing.

She tells Diane to be grateful that she isn’t the one holding the gun. On the plane, Chelsea (Fola Evans-Akingbola) speaks to Walter (Alexander Cendese) about their trip and asks whether she should’ve packed for a longer stay. When she asks about Garza, one of them says he called in sick. Chelsea reminds them that Garza is a woman. Walter says they’re new to the detail. Diane isn’t sure how they’re going to do it although they could use explosives. She explains that having more confusion will allow them to deny everything easier. Peter thinks she picked him for Night Action so she’d always have a fall guy.

She stops outside because the guards won’t let them in unless they’re on the list for the day. Diane explains that they’ll have to ride in the trunk. Rose is hesitant to cooperate with her, but Peter admits it is their only way in. Diane warns him that he’ll be the perfect fall guy if he fails. Once they get off the plane, Ashley Redfield (Christopher Shyer) tells Maddie and Chelsea what will happen next. Chelsea approaches Briggs to say she needs to talk to Almora only to learn that comms are down. He’ll have Ben meet her at Laurel. In private, Maddie tells Chelsea that she is going to see Travers alone. Chelsea instructs her to warn the President when she gets within ten feet of her. Chelsea doesn’t know where she’ll be, but she insists she’ll find her.

Walter calls for Chelsea while Maddie goes with her father. Ashley says the President is on her way and he’ll explain more in a minute. Chelsea tries to leave Walter who tells her to stay put because it won’t be too long. Diane tries to convince the guards to let her in even though her name isn’t on the list. They eventually let her go through. Ashley takes his daughter somewhere she’ll be safe even though she doesn’t want to be down there. He explains that the President is meeting a terrorist named Omar Zadar. He is the kind of person they’ve been fighting for decades. Ashley has been trying to explain this to the President, but she won’t listen. Since they’re in the safest place at Camp David, they just need to sit tight.

Ashley knows he made mistakes and he often put his pain and rage off on her. He admits that Sarah was his fault and never hers. It’ll be over soon, but he needs her not to ask him any more questions. Ashley goes on to say he wants a new beginning. Ben Almora (Enrique Murciano) isn’t happy to see Diane Farr who insists the President is in danger. Peter tells Rose that Travers isn’t in there. Ben tells Diane that the President is rolling calls in the Rosebud. Diane wants to get her evacuated right now, but Ben says she has a meeting with Zadar in 15 minutes. Biggs comes in and begins shooting at Diane. Ben gets involved and gets shot multiple times before Peter comes back. Ben passes away. Diane tells them about a communications building. Rose suggests she can fix it if it is a cyber-attack.

Biggs gets in touch with Walter to tell him about Sutherland. Chelsea asks if she can talk to Ben now that comms are back up. When he learns they’re five minutes out, he sets it for ten minutes. Chelsea attacks Walter and manages to subdue him before grabbing his gun. She checks the timer on his watch. Chelsea asks the others if they’ve spotted a black hard-shell case anywhere. Maddie tries to convince her father not to go through with it, but he says it is a war. Ashley argues that the President is the enemy now. He admits there is no stopping it now. Peter and Rose make it to the communications station and Rose begins working on the computer. The man there grabs a knife and tries to attack Peter who begins fighting back.

Rose grabs the knife and uses it to stab the man in the leg. Peter slams him into a table nearby. Once the man is knocked out, Peter grabs his walkie-talkie and says all of the comms must not be down. Rose begins working on the communications system. Briggs contacts Wick to say Farr showed up with Peter and Rose. Gordon tells him to do whatever it takes. Peter hears Briggs on the radio asking if the case is still in position. He responds by saying it is. Omar wants to have a chat with President Travers after the press conference. Peter tells Rose that it is starting so he asks her to stay there and work on getting the comms up. Chelsea begins looking through cases to see if she can find a potential bomb.

She finds one of them. Peter attacks Briggs and tells him to call it off. Chelsea tries to evacuate the guests. Maddie tells her father that she wants to leave because she can’t do this anymore. Ashley warns her that she won’t survive, but Maddie wants to go out anyway. She threatens to tell everyone everything. Ashley agrees to let her out. Peter fights Briggs while Rose works on the comms system. Chelsea grabs a walkie-talkie to tell everyone there is a code two at Laurel Lodge. The President is escorted out of the building. Two soldiers find Peter holding a gun to Briggs’s head so they rush over to help. Chelsea helps Maddie escape just before the bomb explodes. Peter gets a message saying they’re evacuating the President to Marine One.

When Rose hears the soldiers asking others to shoot Peter on sight, she tells them not to shoot. The soldiers think their communications system has been compromised. Peter rushes over to the airplane. He shoots one man before grabbing the President and warning the others that there is a bomb on the plane. They check the chopper, but do not find any bombs. Rose rushes over. Peter convinces them to check the plane again. They find the bomb this time. It explodes just as the soldiers run off the plane. As Peter is taken into custody, Chelsea rushes over so she can explain what is going on. Rose checks on Peter who says he is good.

Chelsea and Maddie surprise Ashley who thinks they’ve died in an explosion. Rose goes to Diane who asks if the President is still alive. Rose believes that she is sorry, but she can’t wait to see her dead. She thinks Diane deserves worse so she is going to keep her alive until the paramedics come. Rose wants her to clear Peter’s name and tell the world what she did. Later, Peter and Rose meet with the President. She knows why they’re trying to stay anonymous, but it pains her not to be able to thank them in front of the world. The President is confident that they’ll find Gordon Wick. When she asks what she can do, Peter says he wants to know the truth about his father.

Chelsea is asked if she’d like to say a few words at the ceremony for Erik Monks. Even though she didn’t know him for long, she agrees to do it. She is told there is a spot on the President’s detail for her when she returns. Chelsea quickly says she wants the position. When she leaves, she meets Maddie who turned down the President’s protection after she testifies. They talk about what they’re going to do next. Peter watches the interview with his father who admits to being offered payment by foreign agents. He was offered payment for information on private contractors. It led to the Pentagon breach. Peter returns to the President believing his dad was a traitor after all.

She asks if he’d like to know why his father was cooperating on tape. Travers explains that his dad had agreed to become a double agent. He was in the process of being prepped for deployment, but the plan backfired when he was killed by a foreign assassin to stop him from helping them. The assassin was tracked down and killed by Delta Force operators seven years ago, but the public will never know about it. Travers offers to put Peter on the other end of the phone by making him a night agent. Before he leaves on a plane, he speaks to Rose who wants him to call when he gets there. Peter promises to call although he doesn’t know when it will be. Peter is told he’ll be leaving American airspace, but they don’t say where exactly. He is given information about his mission after leaving American airspace.

The Night Agent Review

The finale of The Night Agent did a decent job of closing the door on most of the main storylines with only Gordon Wick really escaping justice for the time being. Certain aspects of this episode were slightly cringe while you could see how low-budget the show was in some scenes. Some performances were never great throughout the series, but Gabriel Basso was solid enough to carry the lead role.

The series likely could’ve been eight or even six episodes without losing anything important. It might’ve even been better with fewer episodes because it would’ve needed to get to the point sooner. The series wasn’t bad, but there is still plenty of room to improve in the next season. Since Netflix is going to renew it, we can only hope some more resources are put into it.

Nevertheless, The Night Agent is a thought-free way to enjoy a few hours for viewers willing to overlook its many issues. The finale scores a 6 out of 10. Yeah… let me just insert two fake secret service agents into the president’s detail. And they can sneak bombs into Camp David without anyone noticing. And I’ll just drive up and sneak two people into Camp David in the trunk. And Diane was only doing all of this to save the energy and jobs acts.

Preposterous… but despite it all was a very enjoyable show. Perhaps the fact that it was so preposterous sort of added to the enjoyability. Hopefully there will be a second series because I really got into some of those action fight sequences and computer hacking stuff.

    • ReelMockery says:

Kinda surprised but it was renewed shortly after it was released. Agree that the silliness of it somewhat made it more enjoyable because nothing really mattered and anything was possible. Hopefully they’ll boost the budget for the second season. At the very least, Gabriel Basso can likely get even better in that role. Just needs a script and a villain to elevate the character.

      • James Evans says:

Gabriel Basso was Gabrial Boss-O. That dude is awesome.

        • ReelMockery says:

Good to see the big boss man get another season and another paycheck lol. Might be fun to see him away from Rose so we can see him in action without having to protect someone 24/7. I know zilch about the novel so I really don’t have a clue where the next season will go or even if the show followed it closely.
