As they leave the airport, Seamus admits to wearing a hat because he doesn’t want to be recognized. When she asks how it went with Frankie (Alice Eve), Seamus says it was pretty rough. After a short taxi ride, they get dropped off at Madame Tussauds. Seamus tells Janet that he has met many of those people. Janet says she loves The Rock although Seamus can’t stand him. He also believes he could take him. When they check the political section, Janet argues that no one cares about politics. Seamus seems to believe otherwise though. He says politics is life. Janet claims this is life before kissing him.

They leave when they’re approached by security. As they get on a bus, Seamus reveals he has a very exciting job offer. It is a documentary series for a big American broadcaster. It is filming in Belfast and aims to be the definitive history of the troubles. Seamus suggests Janet could help. He thinks she could introduce them to some of the terrorists. Janet reminds him that not everyone from North Ireland is a terrorist. A woman on the street yells to tell Seamus she loves him. After getting out of the rain, Seamus says they’d like to talk about her experience during the troubles. Janet says most people weren’t impacted by it.

Seamus tells her about an experience in which a man refused to serve his mother because of her accent. He receives a call from Frankie but doesn’t answer. Seamus suggests she just wants to collect her stuff or something. Just before the Jack the Ripper tour, Janet suspects something is wrong with Seamus. He confesses he hasn’t broken up with her yet. Janet believes he is wearing the hat so he won’t be seen in public with her. Seamus doesn’t want to be the bad guy and doesn’t want to hurt Frankie’s feelings. Janet gets mad and tells him to leave her alone. Seamus says she can’t do this public display of emotion and Frankie would never do this.

Janet says Frankie can give him things that she can’t. Plus, she doesn’t want to be on the red carpet or have her pictures in the papers. Janet believes that’s why they cannot go anywhere. She doesn’t think they’re meant to be together. Seamus says he is going to break up with Frankie now so they can be together. Once he says they have to be honest with one another, Janet argues that they could never be honest with each other. Seamus returns home where Frankie tells him she has amazing news. He finally tells her he has been seeing someone else and he is leaving her. Frankie wants to know who it is.

Seamus says it is Janet who is not his cousin. Frankie isn’t sure she can get past this, but Seamus admits there is nothing to get past. He is leaving her so he can be with Janet. Seamus says he loves her. Frankie doesn’t understand that because it doesn’t make sense to her. Seamus says she makes her laugh. They argue all the time and she is a nightmare, but he feels like a kid when he is with her. Janet almost sends Gemma a message saying it is over and everything is a big mess. When she sees an advertisement for Seamus’s show, she doesn’t send it. Frankie complains that she could’ve been with A-list actors, but stayed with a newsreader.

When Janet sees another ad for Seamus’s show, she asks God to leave her alone. Frankie tells Seamus that he is vain and shallow. She goes on to say he can’t handle being with a woman who earns more money than him. They don’t earn the same anymore now that she got the Guillermo del Toro. Seamus says he is happy that she got the lead in the movie. Before he leaves, Frankie asks how he wants to announce it. They agree to announce it on social media and share one more kiss before Seamus leaves. Seamus grabs a taxi and tries to call Janet. He leaves her a message saying he did it and he knows their relationship can work.

The Lovers Review

The fifth episode of The Lovers was good for setting up the finale even if it feels like the show has lost its way. In some ways, it might’ve been better if Seamus never had a girlfriend because the magic happened before that was revealed. Regardless, The Lovers is an easy-to-watch, refreshing series that doesn’t require a lot of effort from the viewer.

The dynamic relationship of Seamus and Janet has really carried the show, especially here in the later episodes. However, Frankie was good in this episode as she felt with the string of a breakup. We can only hope the series ends with a spectacular finale that makes up for some of the hiccups along the way.

This episode scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of The Lovers can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site by following this link. Learn about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
