The Lovers Series 1 Episode 2 Recap

As the second episode of The Lovers begins, Janet (Roisin Gallagher) speaks to a coworker about getting to meet Turley. Gemma (Jenn Murray) asks her why it is called Primark. Janet receives a message from Seamus O’Hannigan asking her what she is up to. Janet tells him she is training the new girl. Seamus is too busy texting to pay attention to anything Ndidi (Evelyn Miller) has to say. Janet soon learns that Seamus is flying into Belfast this afternoon and will staying at the Merchant Hotel. She admits she always wanted to stay there.

While waiting for a response, Janet tells Gemma to shut up. Ndidi warns Seamus that he needs to be prepared for his interview with Nisha Anand (Sunetra Sarker). Seamus thinks he has it covered only to learn he is quoting someone else. Janet gives Gemma a chocolate bar to apologize for shouting at her. Gemma questions whether she is depressed again since everyone said she was. She learns it is about a guy. Janet admits it is and it is making her mental not telling anyone about it. She begins telling Gemma about Seamus without disclosing his identity. When Janet tells her that he hasn’t responded in several hours, Gemma says you have to be very forward with English men.

As Seamus arrives, he learns that they’ve moved things around so Nisha will be going first. Seamus is impressed with his motel. Janet sneaks in and approaches him while he is showering. Both end up screaming. Once he gets out, Janet says she thought he was shy. She questions why he’d give her his room number if he didn’t want her to come. Seamus says he wanted to brag about staying in room number one. When Janet decides to leave, Seamus tries to convince her otherwise and offers her a drink. After he gets dressed, they go to the bar. Seamus thinks room one is the presidential suite, but the bartender doesn’t seem to know anything about that.

The bartender says Barry Manilow once stayed in the room although it was only for one night. Bill Clinton never stayed in the room though. After the bartender leaves, Seamus talks to Janet about Nisha Anand who is the foreign secretary. Janet can’t imagine him being good at interviewing people because he is too self-absorbed. Seamus asks why she wanted to kill herself. Before she answers, Janet questions why he didn’t tell her about his girlfriend. Then, she admits she doesn’t want to answer that question. Janet asks what they’re doing there now. Seamus says he likes her and wanted to see her again.

He goes through all the things he likes about her including that she clearly doesn’t give a crap. Once Seamus asks her to name one thing she finds attractive about him, Janet says he has a nice nose. While holding hands, Janet asks Seamus what he wants to do now. He says he loves his girlfriend. Janet responds by saying that is that then. Seamus watches her while getting his bill. Janet comes over to say they should have an affair. He doesn’t think they should because someone could get hurt. Then, he worries that it’ll be national news since he is famous. Janet doesn’t think he is that famous though.

They put it to a test and nobody notices Seamus so he probably isn’t that famous. Once he figures that out, they agree to have sex. Before they can reach his room, they run into the foreign secretary, Nisha Anand. She tells Seamus she is staying in the presidential suite. Janet remembers Nisha from Celebrity Come Dine With Me. Once they leave, Seamus insults Nisha although Janet thought she was nice. Back in the room, Janet worries this isn’t going to work because she just embarrassed him by saying he was nervous. She goes on to say they’re completely different people from different worlds.

Janet ends up leaving. Seamus follows her a bit later. Since the elevator is so slow, he runs down the stairs hoping to catch her. Once he makes it, Janet is gone. He speaks to the lady who was talking to Janet before. Seamus looks across the street to see Janet standing there. She explains that she decided to get an ice cream. Seamus joins her. At one point, he attempts to get intimate with her only to be punched in the face. Janet quickly apologizes and says she isn’t used to people trying to kiss her. After she checks on him, they kiss. Frankie pulls up in her car and sees what is going on.

The Lovers Review

This was another good episode of The Lovers. Seamus and Janet remained in touch even though he had returned home. Once he returned to Belfast, they were eager to see one another. Their encounter led to a potential affair, but it seemed like everything that could go wrong did. They pushed through anyway and ended up kissing only for Frankie to show up and catch them.

The Lovers is extremely well done to the point that viewers will be able to feel the romance oozing from the scene. It helps that Johnny Flynn and Roisin Gallagher are perfect for one another. The series is moving at a good pace and creating new obstacles for the couple to overcome to keep things interesting.

It is even genuinely humorous at times and I rarely find comedies funny so that says a lot. Through two episodes, The Lovers is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows of the year. This episode scores a 7 out of 10. Recaps of The Lovers can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link.
