The Irregulars Season 1 Episode 8 Finale Recap

As the finale begins, the linen man (Clarke Peters) tells Sherlock (Henry Lloyd-Hughes) that the barrier between the worlds is starting to collapse. He suspects he can stop it if he takes control of its power. Otherwise, the world will be sucked through it. Sherlock points the rifle at the linen man and asks if he’ll keep his side of the bargain. The linen man shows him something and promises he’ll get what he paid for. Meanwhile, Jessie (Darci Shaw) ridicules Sherlock and his decision to leave Bea (Thaddea Graham). Bea admits the linen man went into her mind and now she is seeing the day when Alice (Eileen O’Higgins) left them behind. Jessie says it is accessible as long as it is in your mind before suggesting Bea should stay behind.

Bea isn’t going to stay though. John Watson (Royce Pierreson) tells the other that the code that opens the lock is the answer to the riddle. He tries to solve the riddle but Billy (Jojo Macari) has a better, quicker solution. He smashes the lock and opens the cabinet. Watson tells them how dangerous it is going to be now as he distributes weapons. Leopold (Harrison Osterfield) admits he isn’t much of a fighter but Spike (McKell David) encourages him not to get caught short. He receives a weapon before the group steps out onto the street. Watson admits he was apprehensive when he first asked for their help while the linen man performs a ritual to take the rip’s power. The others go outside and notice the rip in the distance. After the intro, Jessie and the group arrive at the Aldgate Inner Circle Line and find the door barricaded.

Watson explains they’ll need to enter through the old sewer and Spike is the first one down. Watson leads the way. Bea remembers seeing Watson when she was with Sister Anna (Lisa Dwyer Hogg) and learning that something happened to her mother. Bea screams and this lets Sherlock know that they’ve arrived. The linen man continues with the ritual before he says it is time to finish this. The tunnel begins collapsing so Bea and the others have to move on. Leo’s nose begins to bleed and Billy is confronted by a bloody Vic. Jessie realizes that the linen man is with them before Watson tries to shoot him. Billy is tormented by Vic, Spike screams for help for a woman, and Leopold bleeds profusely. The linen man sneaks up behind Jessie and tells her he has to kill her before grabbing her wrist. Jessie tells him that these are his memories.

He gets frightened and falls off the edge. Jessie looks over and finds him motionless at the bottom. Leopold and the others are just fine. Seconds later, a tunnel collapse separates the group and damages Billy’s leg. Bea learns about Billy’s leg being broke and encourages them to return to the cellar and stay there. Billy refuses to go back to the cellar and leave his friends behind. They can’t unblock the tunnel so they agree to go back and keep each other safe.

Jessie goes down to the linen man’s body while Bea calls her name from above. The linen man warns her that trying to close the rip will kill her like it did her mother. Jessie says maybe she wants what is best like her mother did. The linen man laughs and admits he didn’t just see the rip when he went into Arthur’s mind. He saw the location and who opened it. Jessie tries to get him to tell her but he only says she must know deep down. Jess gets distraught and runs off so Bea and Watson follow her. They go to the rip and join Sherlock. They watch as a hand reaches through the rip and Alice steps through. Jessie tells Bea that what they’re seeing is real. Spike and Leo help Billy walk through the street.

Alice scolds him before telling Jessie to come join them. However, Jessie wants to know why her mother is opening the rip. Billy is transported back to the cellar before they notice that Jessie hasn’t closed the rip just yet. They try to go inside but a crazed man attacks a group of people in front of them. She claims they’ll be free when it is fully opened but Jessie isn’t happy with her decision. Alice believes the monsters will be temporary and they can be together forever. Watson suggests otherwise and says that would destroy the world forever. She admits there are many different dimensions and she comes from the one with the spirits who don’t want to move on. She has been stuck in purgatory because she doesn’t want to move on without her girls. Alice says everyone there has been torn apart by grief and no more death means no more grief. She suggests this is how it has to be and Sherlock encourages Jessica to listen to her mother. Jessie wants to close it but Bea says she can’t let her do that. Meanwhile, someone tries to break into the cellar.

The Irregulars Review

Although I wasn’t a big fan of The Irregulars, I don’t think the show was an entire waste either. It had some decent moments and the relationship development was pretty good from start to finish. It was a different take on the Sherlock series that people should at least give a chance. I am sure a lot of people will be disappointed, but some may enjoy it.

If you can get over the first episode, there is a good chance that the show will be a good time killer. At the very least, the series had some good performances from the main actors and actresses. I’ll also say I am glad they decided to wrap everything up in the finale since I don’t see it getting another season. It was a fitting ending although I am sure some will be upset with Leopold being forced to leave Bea.

Still, that ending more realistic than it could’ve been. The finale wasn’t bad but it never really hit a climatic high either. I’d give it a 7 out of 10 just for wrapping up the loose ends and being mostly entertaining. Be sure to check out more recaps of The Irregulars on Reel Mockery here.
