The Inheritance Series 1 Episode 3 Recap

As the third episode of The Inheritance begins, someone searches the house and finds transfer confirmations from Dennis. Jenny Roche (Pauline McLynn) tells Chloe (Jemima Rooper) and Sian (Gaynor Faye) that Michael died from a single gunshot to the head. There were no other fingerprints on the shotgun so they’ve ruled it a suicide. Sian asks if she finds it strange that both of Susan’s husbands are dead. Chloe shows Jenny the original will in which he left everything to them. Jenny says all that matters is that Dennis updated the will. No matter how frustrating it may be, the new will is legally binding.

Although Jenny asks DS Morris to look into everything, she can’t say whether she thinks Susan is guilty. While leaving, Chloe and Sian discuss Michael’s actions. Sian believes he is picking up Charlie from school. Chloe questions whether that is wise since he just saw someone kill themselves. When Chloe says he has been acting strangely, Sian argues she has been acting strangely as well. They argue about Chloe not being supportive. Chloe tells Sian she isn’t the one with a record of dating psychopaths. Chloe leaves. Sian calls Nathan to see what he is up to. Daniel (Robert James-Collier) tells Charlie that they are going to his restaurant. They stay there for a bit. After Daniel receives several messages, he asks Charlie if they should have an adventure.

He hides Charlie before stepping outside to tell Glen (Kevin Harvey) that he doesn’t have him. Daniel claims his mother made plans for him so he couldn’t make it work. He questions whether it was a good idea anyway since they were breaking the law. Glen warns him it is a crazy idea to make promises that he can’t keep. When Glen hears something, he begins looking for Charlie even though Daniel says he isn’t there. Before Glen leaves, he tells Daniel that he made a serious mistake. Sian tells Nathan (Rory Fleck Byrne) it has been a long time since she had sex with someone during the day in secret. He suggests they could discuss the house sale. Sian admits the house sale is complicated.

Nathan insists he isn’t there for that reason. Sian tells him about Susan who may have been involved in their dad’s death. Chloe visits Susan (Samantha Bond) to check on her after what happened with Michael. Once Chloe goes inside, she asks Susan if she is the beneficiary of Michael’s will too. She also tells Susan about finding Dennis’s original will. Susan thinks she should start harassing her brother because he has a motive. She thinks Chloe has a motive as well. Susan says he said she knew about the affair for all those years and was asked to keep it quiet. She wonders if Chloe thought she’d be rewarded for her loyalty. Susan admits her father had very little time for her compared to Daniel and Sian.

She says she is the beneficiary of Michael’s will. Charlie asks Daniel about a match, but Daniel is preoccupied by a call from Pete. Sian tells Nathan she’ll call him before he leaves. Daniel returns Charlie to his mother who learns what they did. Daniel tells Sian that he saw the estate agent outside. He receives a message from Glen who says there is a new plan. Glen approaches Nathan to suggest Sian is a bit too old for him. He headbutts Nathan and tells him to leave Sian alone. Daniel meets Pete (Adil Ray). Pete asks if Chloe would know he is DRD1 on his dad’s bank statements. Daniel asks if he is going to tell Chloe, but Pete doesn’t think it is his job to tell her. Daniel admits he has nothing and owes an unpleasant man a lot of money.

Next, Chloe and Sian learn that someone broke into their dad’s house and went straight to the study. DS Morris (Risteard Cooper) says it looks like they were searching for something specific. Morris explains why he is there. They find it hard to believe that this has nothing to do with what happened to their father. Susan arrives seconds later and immediately asks what he took. Morris asks why she’d say he. Susan claims most thieves are men. She tries to get Chloe to tell Sian the truth. When Susan threatens to tell her, Chloe says you can’t believe a word that comes out of her mouth. Chloe blurts out that she knew about their dad and that they were seeing each other.

Sian tells Susan to get out of the house only to be reminded that the house is Susan’s now. Susan reminds her again before leaving. Once they’re alone, Chloe tells Sian she didn’t know Dennis married her or that he had dementia. She wants to know Sian’s secret now. Chloe knew Dennis was helping her for all those years and paid for her divorce from Glen. Morris interrupts to say the money sent to Gaudete left Michael’s account a day after his death. It proves someone else has access to the account. Once Morris leaves, Sian and Chloe realize they’re suspects now. Glen takes Daniel somewhere but won’t tell him where they’re going.

The Inheritance Review

The third episode of The Inheritance was watchable as the story continues to slowly unravel. Susan has been pushed to her breaking point so she is willing to give Dennis’s children everything. However, she is confronted by someone near the end of the episode. Therefore, she may not be able to speak to her solicitor because something bad may happen to her.

Daniel was taken into custody after Morris learned that money from Gaudete Dynamics was being sent to his savings account. There are probably believability issues here, but that has been true for the previous episodes too. The Inheritance is right on target with other Channel 5 shows. It does enough to be interesting with one character that viewers may genuinely care about, but it probably isn’t going to be memorable once it’s over.

The episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of The Inheritance can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
