As the episode begins, Leslie (Callum Woodhouse) tells the family that the King of Greece is set to visit Corfu. Louisa (Keeley Hawes) decides that the family should help with the celebrations. Theo (Yorgos Karamihos) is a member of the welcoming committee so they can work alongside him. We see that Spiros (Alexis Georgoulis) has settled in nicely. Leslie starts talking romance so Louisa strikes back by making Spiros do his own laundry. After the intro, Margo (Daisy Waterstone) boards a train with a lot of foreign strangers. She fits right in with them though. Leslie urges Basil (Miles Jupp) to end the relationship. Instead, he believes they can keep it a secret.

Theo conducts a meeting with the members of the welcoming committee. Leslie agrees to train the boy scouts to greet the king. He visits the scouts a short time later and it is painfully clear that he is going to be in over his head. Margo speaks with the locals. Their conversation turns hostile. Still, it seems that she has won them over. Leslie speaks to Spiros about his wife. Spiros hasn’t heard anything from her. Basil overhears their conversation. Basil decides to stay for the King’s visit and leave after that. Moments later, Louisa and Spiros cook together. They have tons of fun.

Theo visits the zoo. He speaks with Gerald (Milo Parker). Theo has an idea. He knows that the king loves wildlife. He asks Gerald to show off his animals when the king passes by. Spiros and Louisa manage to make delicious treats. Louisa urges Leslie to get Gerald involved in the scouts. Next, Louisa meets with Florence (Lucy Black). She confesses that she wants Spiros badly. She is scared because of her track record. Gerald starts trouble for Leslie. The scouts march to the Durrell house to see Gerald’s animals. They begin ignoring Leslie and his knot tying lesson. Margo continues discussing the warn and other politics with those on the bus.

A younger guy, Nikos, seems oddly attracted to her. Spiros nearly catches Florence and Louisa talking about him. When he leaves, she tells Florence about Basil and Dimitra (Marina Aslanoglou). Margo says that the train ride would make a good crime novel. She gets flirty with him. Leslie tries to teach the scouts how to wave their flags. Gerald gets kicked out. Louisa finds out about Basil and Dimitra. She confronts him a short time later. He tells her that he is going to be leaving Corfu pretty soon anyway. The guy manages to get Margo alone. She tells him about taming her old boyfriend who used to be arrogant as well. They eventually kiss.

Louisa, Leslie and Gerald chat before they go to sleep. They’re eager for the king to come and go. Lawrence (Josh O’Connor) gets a letter from his mother. It seems that he may be eager to return home. In the morning, Louisa makes an excuse to visit Dimitra. Dimitra says that Spiros shouts and pretends he owns her. Louisa admits a lot of men are like that. Louisa learns that Leslie gave Basil the idea in the first place. Leslie tries with the boy scouts again. They start off pretty good. Stavros (Georgios Ntavos) doesn’t play along. He comes up with a plan while Leslie is away. Spiros returns home and finds Basil with his wife. Basil manages to play it off. Spiros doesn’t seem to expect anything. The boy scouts humiliate Leslie by displaying a Swastika.

Theo arrives. He explains that the king won’t be sailing through. Louisa speaks to Leslie about Basil and his plan. Leslie admits he thought it would help Louisa get with Spiros. Louisa wants to tell Spiros the truth. Margo arrives home with her new boyfriend, Nikos. Later that night, Louisa and Leslie tell Spiros the truth. Unfortunately, Basil hasn’t left yet. Spiros goes after him and punches him. He tells Louisa and the others that he can never forgive them.

 

The Durrells In Corfu Review

I really like The Durells. However, I cannot force myself to like Spiros anymore. I didn’t mind him in the previous seasons. Sadly, his relationship with Louisa was and is a very bad idea. It isn’t likable in the least. Thankfully, it usually doesn’t overload the episode. At least we still get the humor of the supporting cast along the way. The kids are really the ones who steal the spotlight.
