The new BBC true crime series, The Crime I Can’t Forget, is just days away with the first episode airing on BBC One Northern Ireland on Wednesday, 15 November at 10.40 PM. The full series will also be available on the BBC iPlayer. In each episode, retired and current police detectives will provide chilling details of the specific cases that shaped their careers.

The six-part series by Rare TV and Green Inc uses original evidence and archive news reports to provide viewers with fresh insight into six unforgettable police investigations and the impacts they had on those involved. Each episode covers a unique standout case.

Episode 1 – Jonathan Gault will speak for the first time about the 2000 slaying of his father. Paul Gault was found murdered in his Lisburn residence where he lived with his wife, Lesley, and their five-year-old triplets. Detectives first believed the crime was a violent burglary gone awry. However, they will soon discover evidence that the scene has been meticulously staged sending the case in a startling direction.

Episode 2 – Episode two of The Crime I Can’t Forget will cover the case of Jennifer Cardy, who was nine years old when she was abducted while cycling to a friend’s house in 1981. Following a massive search effort in the community, Cardy’s body was discovered six days later. The case went cold for more than two decades until it was finally reopened in 2002.

Episode 3 – Rachel Callaly was found murdered in her Dublin home in 2004. Her husband, Joe O’Reilly, is quickly identified as a person of interest. Although O’Reilly seemed like the perfect husband on the outside, detectives will soon learn the truth beneath the surface. Episode three takes viewers through the investigation into Callaly’s murder and Joe O’Reilly’s conviction.

Episode 4 – Family of Eamonn Magee Jr. will bring Eamonn to life through intimate recollections. The young boxer and engineer was found stabbed to death in 2015. The 22-year-old was an engineering student and son of boxing champion Eamonn Magee Sr.

Episode 5 – Episode five of The Crime I Can’t Forget details the kidnapping of Don Tidey that led to the largest manhunt in the history of the Republic of Ireland. The supermarket executive was abducted by members of the Provisional IRA posing as Gardai while Tidey was driving his daughter to school. Retired Sergeant Major PJ Higgins will unravel the investigation and extensive search.

Episode 6 – The final episode of The Crime I Can’t Forget will detail the police’s attempt to stop a bombing during Queen Elizabeth II’s historic 2011 visit to Ireland. While the event is often remembered for the Queen’s speech in the Irish language at a banquet in Dublin Castle, many are not aware of the sinister bomb plot threatening the lives of innocent bystanders behind the scenes.
