The Couple Next Door Review

Danny is surprised to find Ethan and Olly playing together. Olly is thrilled to have a brother. He tells Becka that Lena was a witness when they had a fling. She doesn’t trust him but knows he has always been the only man for her.

Evie calls Danny pleading with him to help her, Brian went mad when he heard about their baby. En route to the cottage, he tells Becka that he is the father of Evie’s baby. He finds Evie in the tub. She invites him to join her. Evie tries to shock Becka by telling her about the baby. Pete arrives a short time later. Evie tells him that their marriage is over. He blames Danny for everything. While the dispute continues, Kyle prepares to shoot Danny through the window but Brian kills him. Danny is shot while wrestling Pete for the gun. Evie flees the cabin. When Pete gets the gun, he races out to catch up with Evie. He pleads with her to not leave him. She shoots him.

Pete is still alive when the EMTs put him in an ambulance. Danny is treated at the scene. Evie smirks at Danny before getting in a cruiser.

Jean leaves Alan.

The finale is a major disappointment. The cottage scene is tediously long. Alfred Enoch’s acting is not believable. Initially, Pete is a sympathetic character but his desperation to keep Evie in his life makes him look pathetic.

Jean is the only character I could connect with. Initially, she appears to be a fragile, helpless woman dependent on Alan. She courageously walks away from her life with him but not before finding him two caretakers. That in my own opinion is more than he deserves.

The series ends without a resolution to the controversy between Robbie Spencer and Danny and Gary. Too much screen time was devoted to the cabin scene, which could have easily been summed up in 15 minutes. With six episodes, one would think everything would have been wrapped up.

The finale deserves a 4.5. Get more The Couple Next Door recaps here. Your donations help the Reel Mockery team continue providing non-biased, descriptive, and relevant recaps and reviews.
