Temple Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

As the episode begins, Dr. Daniel Milton (Mark Strong) observes Anna (Carice van Houten) and Jamie (Tobi King Bakare) in his clinic. He steps out and finds George (Donald Sumpter) arguing with Lee (Daniel Mays) about the amount they’re charging him. George is led out of the facility a short time later. Anna wakes up while Daniel cares for Beth (Catherine McCormack). Anna manages to find her way out of the clinic and back to street level. Daniel returns to the clinic and finds that she is missing. After the intro, Lee speaks with someone in the Deep Fathom Medical Services chatroom. It is a man who has a growth between his sack and leg.

He’d like to have it removed. Daniel interrupts his chat and inquires about Anna. Lee is worried that Anna might spill the beans on their operation. Daniel tries his best to track her down. He speaks to one of Anna’s friends, Chloe (Natasha O’Keeffe), about her. It seems that the woman might have the wrong opinion about them. She asks if they’ve been seeing one another again. Daniel denies it. In a flashback, Daniel and Beth speak with Eleanor (Kate Dickie) about the research. Those higher up are worried about spending so much on the possible cure. Daniel becomes enraged. He goes into the boardroom, belittles everyone, and begins throwing things around.

He decides to head to Phaxxol to see if he can find Anna there. A cabbie (Jordan Long) gets in his way. The cabbie is a real jerk but Daniel plays nice and eventually convinces the man to move his car. Back at the clinic, a hungry Jamie wakes up. He is fed by Lee before their conversation turns to the money. Lee shows him where the money is hidden. After that, investigators meet with Michelle Wilson (Siena Kelly). They chat with her about Jamie and explain that he has likely been shot. They try to convince him that they want to get him medical assistance. After a call from Daniel, Lee finds out that Jamie has made a run for it. Daniel makes it to Phaxxol and speaks with the receptionist Katie.

During their conversation, Daniel spots Eleanor outside. They speak about Daniel’s reason for being there and his mindset. He tries to smooth things over after blowing up at her later. In a flashback, Daniel tells Beth that they could try finishing their cure on their own. He steals the medication from the lab. Then, they sit down with Eve (Lily Newmark) together to let her know that they’ll be going away. They take a vacation and prepare to try the experimental drug on Beth. Beth tells Daniel that she doesn’t want to live if something goes wrong and she ends up comatose. She doesn’t want to waste away in a bed for god knows how long. Daniel promises to let her go if anything happens. Back in the present, Daniel scrambles to find Anna while Lee goes after Jamie.

Lee finds him a short time later. Jamie explains that he doesn’t know what he is doing. He insists he was going to go back, show them he was sorry, and return the money. He believes they could give him a suspended sentence but Lee suggests otherwise. He tells him that he should rest and recover before deciding what to do next. In a flashback, Beth writes two letters for Daniel. Then, he injects the drug into her arm. She goes into a comatose. Daniel reads the letter and finds out that his wife wants him to dump her body into the ocean. Daniel finally gets in touch with Anna. She tells him that she is thinking about reporting him to the police. Anna wants to know the truth behind Daniel’s decisions and his new clinic. She keeps pushing until Daniel agrees to show her what is going on.

Temple Review

So far, I am really liking Temple. I am not sure that this episode was as good as the first one though. I think things need to settle down a bit and that should happen now. Everyone who needs to know about the secret clinic does. It is time to settle down and begin helping others and trying to find a cure for Beth Milton. If the show does that and stops giving us the runaround, it can be fantastic. I liked the episode but felt that it was a little long-winded with the search for Anna.

I hope the flashbacks decrease in frequency as well. The episode scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of Temple before you go!
