Father Phil Orley (Adam Korson) finally arrives and hands the keys to Susan. She runs over to August to tell him she has the key. When the numbers come up on the screen, they need to reset the clock and wind it up. A ghost arrives and stops the electrical system from working properly.

Susan tries to deal with the spirit using old-school techniques. August admits it was simpler when Luke could just talk to these things, but those days are gone now. August gets the numbers and gives them to Susan. She sets the clock and deals with the ghost. Paul tells the couple that the house was owned by two brothers, an electrician and a plumber. One night, the electrician murdered the plumber. The grandfather clock stopped at that moment. They had to find out the exact time of death and a key that would work in the clock. Then, they reset the clock and got it running again so the plumber could move on. Susan runs back to see if they’re ready to sell the place.

The couple is worried that it took their neighbors six months before they found a buyer. Susan reminds them it only takes one. The next day, Zooey asks Phil about Susan who has seven urgent messages and she is late for the Cantervilles. Zooey believes this is their future if Luke (Tom Rozon) doesn’t get back soon. There hasn’t been any word at all from Luke so Phil believes they should rattle his cage a little. Meanwhile, Susan speaks to a couple about selling their home. Then, she goes back to August to see if there is something more efficient than Scrabble tiles. Susan asks him to keep working on it. She wakes up Phil to see how they’re doing on McTeer and Bryce.

Phil says the McTeer title  is clean. As for the Bryce title, it had a lien from a crazy roofer. They’re getting it cleared up. He also finished the PIP on Sanderson. She brought in three more normies this week and argues that not every house has to be a horror show. Susan is supposed to look at a bank repo that Julie Chen is interested in. A man bursts through the wall at the Canterville house. Deb, Randall, and the man hear music coming from behind the wall. The worker sticks his arm inside and loses a finger. Zooey and August arrive at the house so they can deal with it. They tell August that the boy was singing like the Vienna Boys’ Choir.

They start asking about Luke since his name is on the sign. Phil finds Luke hitting baseballs. Luke asks him about the adoption. Phil says they claim it is only a matter of time and finding the right situation. He believes he has found Luke’s mother. When they talk about the office, Luke admits he feels bad about the Travis house fallout. Phil shows him Susan’s interview on Channel Seven which he believes saved their bacon. Once Phil asks if he is coming back, Luke says he is thinking about Monday which is his dad’s birthday. August tries to find the missing finger. A man is shown with a piece of jewelry and the finger. Luke visits William Larson (Charlie Tomlinson). Megan Donovan (Tennille Read) comes out to say hello to Luke.

Luke congratulates her on the sale and the residency before learning she’ll leave the day after tomorrow. They talk about how Luke is doing. Megan thanks Luke for making her world so much bigger. Susan goes to the bank repo that they call the Ensom House. While touring the house, she learns that it is a smart house. She is shocked when the home knows her name. Back at the office, Susan tells the others that Luke has lost his special sauce without realizing he is standing nearby. Susan explains that she’d like to use a process called ECHIDNA. Luke asks to be caught up on what is happening. August tells him how they’ve been using devices to try to communicate with the dead. Toys seem to work particularly well.

August asks if Luke thinks his current status is permanent. Luke hopes he will remain a normal person. Zooey brings Luke to his office to question why he was so nasty to Susan. He denies being nasty, but she says he was a dismissive jerk. Luke argues that Susan tends to get bogged down in the process and they don’t have the time for that. Zooey reminds him Susan kept the agency running while he was away. Moments later, Susan gets a message from Luke asking if she is coming back. He wants her to stop by and see him. Susan speaks to the smart home system in Ensom House. The system confirms it played the music a minute ago before she leaves. At the office, Luke tells Susan he is grateful for the way she stepped up.

Phil interrupts to say he found out a few things about the Canterville house. In 1938, a 10-year-old boy named Samuel MacAdams died of scarlet fever in the house. Susan asks Luke if he is going to ignore the process and do this himself. Luke argues that there is nothing magical about her process until she storms out. Luke yells to ask if she is going to rat him out to Zooey again. Next, Susan speaks to her mom about how everything was going well. She claims the new Luke seems defensive, territorial, and insecure. Her mom didn’t think she’d be happy unless she worked somewhere with her name on the door.

Susan says she found a beautiful house that brings everything back. Luke speaks to August about the Canterville house. Once he arrives, he finds that the couple is getting ready to leave. Luke is told to pull up his sign and get out or get rid of this thing. Once he is alone, Luke begins looking for Samuel. However, he is confronted by a man with a knife who isn’t Samuel. As Phil rushes to the house, he says the man’s name was Edgar Cornell. He was a serial killer who murdered six people. Edgar was convicted and executed in 1985, but lived in the house in the early 1980s. Cornell kept trophies so they believe he might’ve come back for them. Luke grabs the toy that August has been working with.

Luke plays it for Edgar just before Susan and the others walk in. They bust through the wall to look for his trophies. Luke throws Edgar the toy and he begins playing with it. Zooey finds the trophies before throwing them on the floor. Susan sets them on fire. That takes care of Edgar. At the office, Susan gets a call confirming they’re back on with the Canterville house. Luke tells her good job because he screwed it up and she pulled it out. He says she can take a few days off since she has been kicking butt. Susan calls Julie to say she checked out the bank repo like she asked. She doesn’t think it is right for Julie. That night, Luke goes to Carl Roman’s gravesite. Luke tells his dad about Susan who is the best real estate agent to ever live.

He goes on to say Phil thinks he found his mom. Luke admits he has wanted to ask her why she left. He wishes they could talk about these things.

SurrealEstate Review

The second season of SurrealEstate started with a decent episode that created several interesting storylines for the remainder of the season. The concept remains interesting with Luke and the gang dealing with ghosts in houses so they can sell those houses later. The ghost in this particular episode wasn’t all that interesting, but there is plenty of potential in that area.

The performances from the leads are good enough to carry the series even if some of the side performances aren’t perfect. The concept is what really makes SurrealEstate so interesting though. If it doesn’t get too silly and touches on certain topics, some of the future episodes could be very memorable.

It’ll also be interesting to see how the relationship between Luke and Susan progresses through the season. This was a good starting point for the second season. The episode scores a 6 out of 10.
