At the episode begins, Samuel (Toby Stephens) takes his family to the horse races. Everyone glares at them as if they’re not good enough to be there. Soon, Sasha (Toby Woolf) disappears. It appears that he is suffering from stomach issues as well. Kathleen Shaw (Keeley Hawes) helps the family search for him. She eventually finds him and returns him to the family. As a thank you, Samuel and his wife invite Kathleen to their picnic. After a wait, Kathleen and Richard (Linus Roache) join the Petrukhin family. Sasha feels pain in his stomach again. Courtney (Gary Beadle) agrees to drive the boy in his car.

At the hospital, the family has to wait a very long time for assistance. This gives Samuel an idea. Sasha gets surgery and is fine. Sasha speaks with Hannah about not wanting to go to boarding school. Samuel and Miriam (Lucy Cohu) speak to the family about Sasha’s future. Hannah cuts in and admits she doesn’t want to take etiquette classes. Samuel is adamant that she will indeed be attending. Samuel tells her that she needs to do this for her mother. Kathleen visits Samuel at his office. She tells him about Aunt Mary (Claire Bloom). Mary will not wear hearing aids because they’re too big. Samuel believes he might have a solution to that problem.

He agrees to visit and try to convince Mary to wear one of his hearing aids. Kathleen is shown around the manufacturing facility. The company uses mostly deaf employees. Samuel reveals that he makes hearing aids for Winston Churchill. Sasha meets with the leaders of the school. It is clear that he isn’t going to like his time there. Samuel and Courtney meet with a client. The man tries to belittle them. He doesn’t like it when they refuse to give him a trial period on the new hearing aids. Hannah wonders how she will get through tomorrow. The following day, he dad drops her off. He tells her to make sure she gets into Miss Laidlaw’s class. Hannah decides to join Mr. Halliday’s class instead.

Courtney and a partner try to convince Samuel to change his ways. They encourage him to stop using company money for his own transportation. His current driver can make deliveries. They visit Kathleen’s house and meet with Mary. She likes the hearing aid and it definitely helps her. Richard enters moments later. Samuel and his family are invited to dinner in the future. We learn that Richard is a member of parliament. When they leave, Samuel and Courtney are followed. They stop the car and get out. Samuel tries to confront the men in the other vehicle. Instead, the vehicle flies past them. Sasha gets into trouble for wearing headphones during class. Samuel buys a new television for the family. Hannah and his wife are not too impressed with it. Mary decides to attend Richard’s speech.

Walter (Ronald Pickup) speaks with her. Richard is late. Kathleen takes the stage and gives a speech. Richard eventually arrives and takes over. Kathleen is not happy. They argue on the way back home. Samuel and the others prepare to demonstrate their new staff paging device. After a brief wait, everything works perfectly. Later that night, Samuel’s pager goes off. He looks around and finds a strange man up a flight of stairs. He calls out to the man, but gets nothing in return. Hannah speaks with Nicolas Halliday (Matthew James Thomas). He gives her advice. Hannah visits her father’s workplace and speaks with Esther (Rose Ayling-Ellis). Hannah is not interested in visiting the palace. Esther believes it would be fantastic.

Hannah tries to come clean with her father, but she cannot. The family visits Kathleen’s house. They speak about Churchill and the nuclear bombs being dropped and lost by America. Sasha is allowed to play in the garden. He spots a man looking through the gate. Then, he travels a little too far off of the beaten path. He finds a drunk Richard. Kathleen arrives and picks him up. They make it to the guest house. Kathleen gives Sasha money to stay quiet about the incident. Hannah prepares to meet the queen, while Samuel and Courtney visit Churchill. Hannah becomes worried about the bombs. She breaks her heel. He rushes to break the other one off. The gates are starting to close. Hannah rushes towards the palace.

Samuel and Courtney are followed again. They stop in the middle of the road. This time, the people in the other car get out and approach them. The episode ends.

 

Summer Of Rockets Review

Summer of Rockets was slightly slow and dull. Still, I did enjoy it. I adore the time period and the acting was fantastic. There is a great deal going on simultaneously. All of the characters seem to have their own thing going on. I just hope things pick up a little bit in future episodes. I will definitely keep watching either way. The first episode scores a 7.5 out of 10.
