Sullivan’s Crossing Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

Homewrecker – As the second episode of Sullivan’s Crossing begins, Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) has a nightmare in which she is back at the hospital. Lola (Amalia Williamson) and her father, Sully (Scott Patterson), seem disappointed in her. Maggie abruptly wakes up and calls Scott to say she wants to come home. Scott offers to call the hospital to see what they want to do since these situations usually resolve quickly. After the call, Maggie tells herself that she’s got this. On her way to the local diner, Maggie gets a call from Phoebe who spoke to Walter about the lawsuit.

They spoke to another law firm that said she shouldn’t be worried about the lawsuit at all. Once the call ends, Maggie goes into the diner. Cal (Chad Michael Murray) offers to get her a coffee. She asks him to stop tapping the table. Cal apologizes and calls it a nervous habit. He denies that she makes him nervous though. Cal says goodbye to Rob (Reid Price) since he has to help Sully with some things. After he leaves, Maggie asks Rob what Cal’s story is. Rob says he is a nice guy, but he doesn’t know much more than that. Sydney enters so Rob leaves to deal with Finn. She learns that Maggie had a change of plans so she asks her to start at the beginning.

Maggie reveals one of the partners has been indicted for billing fraud and her reputation is collateral damage. She also found out she is being sued by the mother of one of her patients. Maggie insists she didn’t do anything wrong, but admits you never know with these things. Sydney was in New York. However, she found out that dating your manager as a model isn’t a good career move. She says it is hard to leave once you’re here. Maggie finds Sully and Frank (Tom Jackson) together. She asks about a fax machine since she needs to get some medical records sent up. Sully asks her to restock the shelves when she is finished because they can’t have freeloaders. When she steps inside, Edna (Andrea Menard) complains about the refrigerator.

She has a lot to do since it is her day to check in on Roy. Jackson arrives late and seems to be helpless with the fax machine. As Jackson leaves, Cal comes in for some supplies. He manages to fix the fax machine for Maggie. After he leaves, Maggie tells Edna that he is annoying. She finally tells Edna that she is being sued for negligence. Maggie begins crying as she says she always felt like she had complete control over everything. Edna tries to comfort and reassure her that everything will be okay. Edna tells her she needs help with the fridge once she has stopped feeling sorry for herself. Frank tells Sully they could learn from Mother Earth since she nurtures and heals her children.

Sully doesn’t think he can fix what is done because it has been too long. Frank tries to change his opinion. James Fish visits Edna to say there is a problem with his husband Jim. He has gone to the car and won’t come out again. James explains there is no hot water and he can’t deal with the rust stains in the shower. He says their friends stayed here and kept talking about how it was welcoming and inclusive. Edna gives him the keys to the VIP cabin. Maggie is surprised she convinced Sully to build new cabins. Edna says they thought it would help attract new customers. When Maggie says she remembers Sully being more organized, Edna reveals he let himself so ever since her mother took her away.

Maggie didn’t think he cared, but Edna believes he was heartbroken when she left. Maggie questions why he didn’t come after her. Later, Scott calls Maggie to say the insurance company is going to offer a settlement. It’s standard practice and she won’t have to accept any blame. Maggie checks the voicemail from Andrew who apologizes for saying what he did. Then, Cal knocks on the door to say Lola called Sully because Roy fell and hit his head. Maggie agrees to help. Edna takes care of James and Jim. Maggie checks on Roy who has a head wound. Cal agrees to get him some juice. When he comes back, he tells Maggie that there is a lot of untouched food in the fridge.

He doesn’t think Roy has eaten much. Roy complains that his stomach hasn’t been too good lately. Maggie checks his stomach while Cal tries to convince Roy to stay put. Roy begins talking about Ruthie who is a real firecracker. He questions Lola about whether Ruthie is gone. Maggie tells Lola she should take Roy to the doctor to check on his abdominal pain. Lola says she’ll call them as soon as they leave. Roy passes out so they agree to get him an ambulance immediately. Once they arrive, Maggie tells the paramedics about Roy’s condition. She tells Lola she thinks Roy fell because he is weak from an underlying infection. Maggie warns Lola that an infection like this can be very serious for someone Roy’s age.

Later, Cal thanks Maggie and says it was nice what she did for Roy. Maggie admits it was nice to feel needed again before apologizing for being rude earlier. It has been a bit overwhelming to come back after roughly 15 years. Her mother took her to live in Boston when she split with Sully. When Maggie asks why they call him the mystery man, Cal says he didn’t know they did. Once Maggie gets back, she finds a message saying her fax came. Frank approaches Edna so they can have a romantic dinner. Sully makes Maggie a sandwich before she tells him she threw away his expired blood pressure medication. Sully doesn’t think he needs it. He also finds some past due bills. Then, he learns that Maggie is being sued by the mother of one of her patients.

Sully suggests she is just devastated about losing a child. He says there is nothing more that can happen to a parent. Maggie thanks him for the sandwich. She also thanks him for keeping the mural. Once he leaves, Maggie decides to call Claire only to hear Kevin on the voicemail message. She goes to the diner where Sydney offers her tequila shots. Cliff and his friend steal their shots and ask for more. They mention that they rented a cabin on Highway 17 and they’re hosting a party. Rob makes them quit drinking because they’ve had too much already. Once they leave, Cal enters moments later. Rafe comes over to buy drinks and flirts with Sydney. Sydney tells Maggie that he is a friend with occasional benefits.

Maggie tells her about Andrew and their long-distance relationship which has been going on for about two years now. Rafe comes back and takes Sydney to dance. At home, Sully looks through old family photos. Back at the diner, Sydney and Maggie sing together. Once they finish, Sydney leaves with Rafe. Maggie gets a couple of beers and sits down with Cal. He agrees that they should do a do-over. Cal also walks her home since she is so drunk. As they look at the stars, Maggie admits she misses this. She thanks him for walking her home before Andrew comes out of the house. Cal says goodbye and leaves. Once they go inside, Andrew says he missed her and didn’t want to leave things the way they did.

They go to Maggie’s room where Andrew admits he should’ve never said that about her and Bob. Maggie says it really hurt before Andrew apologizes. They kiss while Cal drinks alone. He marks a date on his calendar. Andrew tells Maggie that he doesn’t want to lose her.

Sullivan’s Crossing Review

The second episode of Sullivan’s Crossing was pretty much on par with the first in terms of quality. Certain things could’ve been improved, especially the scenes with James and Jim because they seemed a bit forced. Since it really didn’t amount to much anyway, it was easy to overlook. The romance side of the story is slightly predictable.

Nevertheless, both episodes have been watchable if not enjoyable. Not everyone is going to like it because it has a mushy story that can be a little bleak at times, but it is well done. The soundtrack helps create the perfect mood for the story and everything Maggie is going through. Through two episodes, Sullivan’s Crossing has been a pleasant, easily digestible watch and it’s likely good enough to keep viewers around.

This episode scores a 6.5 out of 10. Recaps of Sullivan’s Crossing can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site here. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery at this link.
