The episode begins in Hong Kong. A woman speaks. She wishes she had more time to spend with her husband. She is stopped by a guard and forced to turn around. Her vehicle is slammed by a truck and her vehicle is pushed over a hill. Back in London, Jonah (John Simm) prepares for his lecture. He asks the students whether nations exist. He suggests that they’re imaginary. The lecture is interrupted. In the lobby, a police officer asks Jonah about his wife, Megan. He learns that she has been killed in a car accident. Jonah excuses himself and returns to the classroom. After the intro, Jonah prepares to head to Hong Kong.

He is told to meet with a Sally Porter at the consulate. Jonah contemplates what he is going to do without his wife. Before too long, Jonah is on the plane heading towards Hong Kong. We see that there are protests against a big business. They chant say no to Xo. Jonah finally meets with Sally Porter (Emilia Fox). They travel together. Jonah speaks about Megan being in Hong Kong so often. He admits he never met with her there. They arrive for the formal identification. Jonah enters on his own. Jonah identifies his wife’s body. Then, he learns more about the accident.

After throwing up, Jonah spots a man looking at a picture of Megan. He believes that the man is the driver of the truck. He is given his wife’s possessions. The package includes two mobile phones. The driver is released by police. Jonah follows him outside. The man catches him. He knows Jonah’s name. The man identifies himself as David Chen (Anthony Chau-Sang Wong). He explains that he is Megan’s husband. Jonah doesn’t believe it. He is shown pictures on the man’s phone. It proves that they were indeed in a relationship. David explains he didn’t want the possessions. He also admits that they were married for 20 years.

Jonah tries to wrap his head around everything. David explains that things changed when the company started sending Megan to England every few weeks. He admits he didn’t know about their relationship very long. David admits there is no reason to be angry now that Megan is gone. David gives Jonah his phone number. Then, we see Lau Chen (Katie Leung). She protests Xo. Police arrive and chase her away. She is eventually captured by police. Jonah remembers giving his wife the book David spoke about. Lau remains locked in the jail cell. Becky (Kae Alexander) introduces herself. They speak about the protest.

Lau is asked about the Lay Club before she is allowed to leave. David picks her up. David complains that he had to pull a lot of favors to get her out. Jonah gets a beer and checks out Megan’s phones. He becomes very angry. The barman is forced to calm him down. He tries to get a charger for his phone. Then, he heads to his room. He finds someone already there. The man punches him and runs off. Jonah meets with the detective. He tells him that his passport and laptop were stolen. He believes that someone is after him. He passes on a description of the attacker. Meanwhile, the attacker meets with another man and passes along the passport.

The man believes he will be able to use the money to get to the UK. Reza (Ryan McKen) is told that his assistance is needed. Sally meets with Jonah in the morning. She learns about the assault and theft. He admits almost everyone knew about her other life except for him. David prepares for work. Lau is surprised he is going so soon after mom’s death. Jonah is given emergency travel documents. He decides to stick around one more day. Sally tells him he can get a charger at the market. CCTV footage of the attacker is found. The man was using Megan’s credit card. The lead detective agrees to deal with it. He throws the picture away. Reza burns the credit card.

Michael Cohen (Anthony Hayes) calls Lau Chen. He explains that he is a journalist. He wants to know more about Megan. Lau refuses to meet with him. Jonah drinks and remembers Megan at the motel. He calls Sally and requests to meet. Lau returns home. David asks if she wants to talk about mom. Lau isn’t interested. Lau tells David about the call from Michael. David leaves. Jonah and Sally meet. Jonah wants to extend his stay. He wants to learn more about his wife. He admits he isn’t ready to leave just yet. David tracks down Michael. He is angry that Michael contacted his daughter. Michael wonders whether David ticked off some of his old friends and caused Megan’s death.

David is forced to leave after assaulting Michael. Jonah goes on the hunt for a charger. He manages to get a pink one. Meanwhile, the morgue goes to work on Megan’s body. Jonah checks his voice mail. It is the message from Megan. The message makes it clear that Megan knew she was going to die. Jonah hears a gunshot after the car crash.

 

Strangers Review

Strangers or White Dragon started out pretty good. The acting was spot on. I didn’t notice any bad actors or actresses. At this point, I am eager to find out what happens next. As long as it doesn’t get too outlandish, it could be pretty good. I am enjoying it thus far. The opener was solid. It scores a 7.5 out of 10.
