Still Up Series 1 Episode 3 Recap

The Date – As the third episode of Still Up begins, Lisa (Antonia Thomas) and Danny (Craig Roberts) talk about living with missing limbs. Lisa believes she could easily live without her knees because she hates hers anyway. She gets a message from Veggie who is coming home soon. They talk about Amy being a personal trainer. Danny asks for the password for the dating site because he wants to check the DMs to make sure he isn’t repeating himself with stories. After getting the password, Danny confesses he hasn’t told Amy he isn’t able to go out yet.

He insists he’ll tell her when things get more serious. When Adam (Luke Fetherston) gets home, he tells Lisa that the firefighting has been good although no fire is good. Adam begins walking Danny through the items he foraged earlier. Lisa believes Danny expects too much from Adam. As for Danny, he says Adam likes lending a helping hand so he isn’t going to stop him. Danny says he couldn’t live without his nose. He tells them about his uncle’s mate losing his nose while working in construction. They took Trevor in to get his nose stitched back on. Adam leaves moments later.

Lisa says Adam is too nice for his own good so she can’t believe he is still single. Danny begins complaining about not having any stories to tell because he has been inside for so long. He worries his date is going to be the worst in history. Lisa says it can’t be because she has been on the worst date in history. Danny has come up with ideas to make Amy feel more comfortable. Lisa argues he is trying to sabotage himself. She tells him to enjoy himself for at least one night. Amy (Lois Chimimba) arrives moments later so Danny has to end his conversation with Lisa. Cat Man (Rich Fulcher) comes over to ask about Amy since he thought he knew all of Danny’s friends.

Danny begins freaking out so he opens the door and introduces Amy to Adam just in case she fears for her life. Amy tells him to calm down and get her a drink. Lisa contacts Veggie (Blake Harrison) who is busy playing video games with Rob. Veggie explains that the flight got delayed. Lisa says she is bored before telling Veggie about Danny’s date tonight. Veggie abruptly hangs up so he can return to his video game. Danny goes to the bathroom to call Lisa and tells her that Amy is amazing. He believes she is the funniest person he has met. Danny quickly tries to explain why Amy is so funny before saying he should probably go. Lisa gets bored so she reads through the messages on Danny’s dating account.

Amy tells Danny that her neighbor puts signs through her letter box every night at 1 AM. Danny steps away when he gets a call from Lisa. She lets him know that she sent a reset link for the password for the dating site. Lisa explains she was worried his messages would get hacked if her account gets hacked. She believes Amy likes him since she hasn’t found an excuse to leave yet. After that, Lisa watches a chef on Rapid Recipes. She ends up skipping through most of it because the chef never gets to the recipe. Veggie finally makes it home. After nearly starting a fire, Veggie and Lisa sit down to eat. He receives a message from Steve from Milton Keynes’s office.

Lisa thinks they should play Spicy Talk. Danny tells Amy the same. They answer questions to learn more about one another. Lisa finds out that Veggie has been lying about something. He tells her the story about how he had to take a number two during a run and a woman picked it up thinking it was her dog’s. Veggie decides he should go to bed. Amy holds pads for Danny who punches them for the first time. Lisa can’t get in touch with Danny so she decides to go to bed too. In the middle of the night, Lisa tries to speak to Veggie. He says he’ll sort it out in the morning. Then, a flashback shows that her worst date was with Veggie.

Lisa gets up and calls her mother, Angela (Jo Martin), to see if she thinks she is funny. Angela asks why she really called. Amy tells Danny that she doesn’t think they should do this again while getting ready to leave. She doesn’t think he is over Lisa because he spent over half the night talking about her. When Danny says they’re just mates, Amy suggests otherwise. Angela tells Lisa that Veggie might lack personality, but he makes up for it in reliability. However, it doesn’t make her a bad person if she is questioning things. Lisa thinks she’ll be fine in the morning. Amy tells Danny bye before leaving. When she comes back, he ends up shutting her fingers in the door.

He gets the door open and yells for Adam. Danny picks up her finger and screams for Adam to bring ice. Later, he listens to a voicemail from Lisa who tries to tell him a knock-knock joke. Lisa is happy to get a message from him.

Still Up Review

The third episode of Still Up was much of the same even though each episode has focused on something different. In this one, Danny finally goes on a date with Amy who realizes he has a thing for Lisa. Meanwhile, Lisa begins questioning her relationship with Veggie. The outcome of the series is predictable, yet it seems like it is taking forever to get there.

That was always going to be a problem considering the series has eight episodes. It is even more concerning that episodes are going to be released weekly so there is a good chance that many viewers will lose interest before reaching the finale. Lisa and Danny are likable and similar enough to make a good pair.

One issue is the humor because it clearly isn’t going to work for all viewers. I am not sure I’ve laughed once throughout the whole series although there might’ve been a few smirks here and there. If Still Up is going to succeed, it’ll need to get to the romance much sooner. With eight episodes, it may very well overstay its welcome.

This episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Still Up are available on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here.
