Say What? Mattel And Rapper Lil Yachty To Create UNO Live-Action Motion Picture Based On Atlanta’s Hip Hop Scene

In a surprising announcement, Mattel Inc. said it would be developing UNO into a live-action motion picture alongside Grammy-nominated rapper Lil Yachty and Quality Films. Mattel Films will produce the project with assistance from Lil Yachty, Quality Control’s Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas, and Brian Sher.

Marcy Kelly wrote the screenplay for the action heist comedy, which is set in the underground hip hop world of Atlanta. Lil Yachty said, “I played UNO as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special.”

UNO was developed in a barbershop in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1971 as a way for families to spend time and have fun together. After more than five decades of providing people with hours of fun, UNO is now available in more than 80 countries.

Lil Yachty has appeared in Long Shot, The Fate of the Furious, and xXx: Return of Xander Cage, but the upcoming UNO comedy heist movie will likely be nothing like any of those. Mattel Films is working on other movies based on Barney, American Girl, Hot Wheels, Major Matt Mason, Wishbone, Magic 8 Ball, Masters of the Universe, and Thomas & Friends.
