Save Me Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

At the start of the episode, we join Nelly (Lennie James) in the courtroom as Grace (Olive Gray) is questioned by an attorney. She tells the jury about Gideon Charles (Adrian Edmondson) taking her to different places before she admits Gideon first had sex with her when she was 14. She goes on to explain that Gideon often did drugs with her and he fed her addiction. Grace tells them about the dancing room because the wallpaper was ballerinas on it. They took her there and a friend of Gideon’s showed up. That is the first time Gideon had sex with her and the friend Paul got involved as well. She didn’t want to mess with Paul because he is nasty but Gideon convinced her to go along with it.

She breaks down so the court decides to postpone the testimony until tomorrow. Later that night, Nelly speaks with Claire (Suranne Jones) on the phone and explains how the testimony makes him want to torture Gideon. Nelly says that they won’t know if Gideon got anywhere near Jody until he takes the stand. Then, he tells Claire how strong she is. After the intro, Nelly and Zita (Camilla Beeput) arrive at the courthouse and wait to go into the courtroom. Nelly overhears Grace arguing with someone so he checks on her.

Grace explains that she doesn’t want to talk about the things she has gone through. She says Nelly only wants to get Jody but he claims he can care for his kid and still be a mate to her. He tries to explain that Gideon is going to win if she doesn’t continue. He also says he will be there for her and won’t let anyone trouble her again. Next, Grace takes the stand and is asked about a date she went on and Patrick. She doesn’t agree with the details and argues with the attorney. The court learns that Grace accused Patrick of molesting her but she later retracted that statement and admitted to lying. Grace denies it and says that she never asked either of them of money before Nelly pleads for them to let her take a break.

His wife, Jennifer, says she doesn’t know if she can tolerate been there any longer but he pleads with her. He claims that everything she is saying is not true. Zita comforts Nelly that night and they still haven’t found or heard from Grace. Nelly wonders if Gideon paid someone to do something to her. They sit down and discuss their relationship a bit later. The jury gives its verdict and names Gideon not guilty. Nelly tries to call Grace but she doesn’t answer so he tracks Jennies down and harasses her. Gideon threatens Gideon several times before Jennifer leaves in her vehicle. Nelly rides on a train before visiting a house but nobody answers. Meanwhile, Barry (Barry Ward) offers to take Claire away. He pleads with Claire to go away with him but she is not sure that is a good idea. That night, Jennifer speaks to her friend about Gideon lying to her and how much that hurts. She believes that Gideon was never attracted to her and she was nothing more than a cover for appearance. Jennifer admits that she believed Gideon.

Save Me Review

I am glad this episode has finally ended. It felt like a step backward since it was mostly retracing its steps and I am not sure the episode was necessary. I guess it explained what had happened before Gideon’s death but it wasn’t a great episode by any means and it was a waste considering the show is only six episodes per season. The first episode started the season great but this one was not good.

I am glad it is over. Hopefully, we can get back on track and with the time jumps. We’ll have to see what happens next episode but I hope it doesn’t follow this one. This episode scores a 6.5 out of 10. Previous recaps of Save Me can be found on Reel Mockery.
