Resident Evil Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

The Devil You Know – As the second episode of Resident Evil begins, Jade Wesker (Ella Balinska) falls to the ground before the zombies begin chasing her. Richard Baxter (Turlough Convery) tells his men to keep her alive as they begin shooting the zombies. Once she finds a place to hide, Richard encourages her to come with them because she is dead if they stop shooting. A vehicle bursts through the gate so Jade decides to join them. She runs through the zombies and climbs on top of the vehicle before it drives off. After the intro, Jade (Tamara Smart) checks on Billie (Siena Agudong) after the dog attack at the Umbrella facility. Once Billie comes through, she jokes she isn’t a dog person anymore before Jade argues she needs to see a doctor.

Jade helps her get into a chair and checks the wound. Albert (Lance Reddick) enters to see if the dog bit her. He finds that she is in shock. Albert instructs Jade to take her home and keep pressure on the wound. He tells them to go through the door at the end of the hall and cut through the backfield to make sure Umbrella doesn’t see them. Once they leave, it looks like Albert erases all data from the computer system to protect them. The man in the vehicle gets out and tells Jade to leave because Umbrella is after her. She warns him that they’re not going to let him just leave. Jade believes they can save one another. Zombies begin dropping down from above and the man is soon overpowered. Jade breaks through the sunroof before driving away from the zombies.

Once guards arrive at the Umbrella facility, they find Albert who tells them there has been an incident. Jade and Billie make it home and discuss that dog that looked dead. Albert tells them that everything was fine one minute, but the screens turned red and all hell broke loose. Evelyn Marcus (Paola Nunez) arrives and tells them that she runs the company. Evelyn learns that the blood on Albert’s shirt isn’t his. She asks for the guard to be fired, but he is already gone. Albert claims they got hacked and the hacker overrode their security. Once the cage was unlocked, the dog got out. She reveals that every hard drive on campus was wiped by whoever did this. Although they have backups of the research, Evelyn calls it a pain in her butt. She wonders why they’d want to burn it all down. She splits her time between here and Tokyo.

Evelyn says they can fix it and make it better although they’re taking the Tijuana incident seriously. As they walk out, a distraught Diana (Emily Child) rushes in to check on Evelyn. She tells Albert that Diana is her wife. Diana gets upset that Evelyn didn’t tell her she was back so she storms out. Before Albert leaves, Evelyn tells him to say hi to the girls for her. Once he gets home, he checks Billie’s wound and asks for the first aid kit. Billie asks what bit her. Albert says a dog with a rare genetic disease that he was trying to help. He doesn’t think she will get sick.

They don’t want to say why they went to the lab in the first place. Billie takes responsibility for the idea. She explains they thought Umbrella was doing testing on rabbits, but Albert argues that they’re not. He suspects it would’ve been worse if he hadn’t woken up and realized they took his keycard. Albert warns his daughters that they cannot tell anyone. If Umbrella found out, they’d all be arrested and some of the things inside are classified since they’re government projects. They’d probably never see each other again. Albert thinks he can resolve this right now, but it has to stay between them. In the present, Jade drives to Dover, England. She goes into a community where she eventually meets with Melinda (Corien Pelt). She says they met a while back because her husband Barry got her here from Cairo.

Resident Evil Review

The second episode of Resident Evil didn’t show any real improvement from the first and still has some of the same issues. It is really hard to get behind any of the characters because many are more annoying than sympathetic. The dialogue is pretty bad when it drops those one-liner jokes that just make you cringe. The CGI and special effects are a good point for the series and some of the performances are good, but there isn’t a lot to like about Resident Evil.

The scenes that should be frightening and tense are more humorous than anything. It is strange to see the two sisters stroll through Umbrella’s offices where classified information is kept without a single guard in the building. It doesn’t help that the show is trying to tell two stories simultaneously and neither is particularly interesting.

Removing the Resident Evil name would likely lessen the sting a bit, but it’d still just be a polished turd. I did enjoy the scenes with Pablo the Dog though. The episode scores a 4 out of 10. Recaps of Resident Evil can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our work at this link.
