Reacher Season 2 Episode 3 Recap

Picture Says A Thousand Words – Episode 3 opens 10 days prior and gleans some light on the last few hours of Calvin Franz’s (Luke Bilyk) life. He’s beaten and questioned by two of Shane Langston’s (Robert Patrick) henchmen but gives up nothing. Out of necessity, Langston personally ramps up the interrogation while ordering his men to prep the plane. Once in the air, Franz uses his last opportunity to laugh in Langston’s face and warns him that Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) will come looking for him.

Reacher haggles with pawnshop broker Frank Majeske (David Fraser) before gifting him a wad of cash to skirt the waiting period. Later that day, David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos) complains about his new weapon while Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) uses her mobile to find a base for the team. David doesn’t get long to complain about his weapon before he’s interrupted by the arrival of local police. Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan) offers to make a run for it but Reacher suggests it best to get the confrontation over with. It immediately becomes clear that stop isn’t routine when Patrol Officer Diaz (Erniel Baez) approaches. Several minutes later, Gaitano “Guy” Russo (Domenick Lombardozzi) is on the scene and carting Reacher off to jail. This allows O’Connell to put his Rutger’s law education to good use. During the transport, it appears Reacher may actually be impressed with Russo’s investigative skills as he explains how he tracked them down.

Elsewhere, Neagley and Dixon meet with Marlo Burns (Christina Cox) at New Age Technologies under the guise of private investigators. When Neagley brings up the three confirmed murders and the missing person’s case linked to the company, Marlo attempts to blow it off until Dixon says the cases involve personal friends. Marlo offers to help.

Reacher and Russo bicker all the way back to the station, where Reacher surprises Russo this time by revealing that he already knows about Orozco (Edsson Morales) and Jorge Sanchez’s (Andres Collantes) deaths.

Dixon and Neagley’s visit appears to pay off when Marlo links the parking pass to a man named, Trevor Saropian (Joris Jarsky). Having recently applied for a maintenance job, she still has his resume on file and shares it with them. Russo’s investigative skills shine again as he explains how his investigation led to the discovery of a weapon dealer known to Interpol as Azhari Mahmoud. After O’Donnell points out the initials AM track with their evidence, Reacher shares the list of aliases and suggests Russo run them through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Russo’s departure to do so sparks another memory for Reacher about the missing aviation fuel.

After setting up their new base of operations in a much less classy hotel, Dixon learns that the list of numbers represents days and months.

Russo returns to the interrogation room with the news that DHS flagged the aliases Alexander Markopoulos buying a ticket from Denver to JFK that boards in the next hour. AM is shown arriving at the airport but he somehow detects something is off and chooses not to board. From a cab several minutes later, AM reveals the news to Langston while also assuring him that he will make their meeting, it will just be later than expected.

Reacher and O’Donnell are updated about Dixon’s discovery of the numbers from Franz’s flash drive. A quick chat with Saropian’s 79-year-old neighbor, Barbara Gottlesman (Lorna Wilson), reveals that he hasn’t been home in a few days. he hasn’t been home in a while. Expecting an ambush, the team pays a visit to the hardware store to make a pipe bomb before they raid the address. Although O’Donnell saves Dixon’s life at one point, the incident is uneventful. After the team regroups on the main level, Reacher goes on foot after a truck that’s been monitoring the encounter. With the help of Neagley as a lookout, he navigates alleys and side streets to stop the vehicle by launching a barbecue grill through the winded shield. Reacher learns little more than the driver’s identity, Brian Collins (Geoff Williams), because he has a heart attack.

A very upset Russo joins Reacher and the team at their home base to admonish their tactics. During his rant, it becomes clear that he’s more upset about having to fudge his scene report to conceal Reacher and the team’s involvement. After revealing that AM knew about the airport setup, a search warrant for New Age Technologies appears to be their next play. Russo orders them to sit tight while he puts that in play through official channels, but Reacher has other plans.

Several seconds later in New Age’s parking lot, Reacher confirms that everyone knows their assignments. After the confirmation, he sets a 2-minute timeline and makes them promise to leave without him if he doesn’t return, which he nearly regrets later. After their raid and the disposal of evidence, Reacher shares a New Age Company photo that includes Swan Shannon Kook.

Reacher Review

Not a terrible way to continue the series, although the episode felt a bit lackluster for what should have been explosive. I enjoyed it and the final reveal was a shocker, but I could also easily see where some viewers might get bored. I don’t mind Alan at Reacher, but I can’t deny that his performance feels a bit off at times when he’s deducing evidence. There is a bit of a hesitation or something in mannerisms that is throwing me off. Neither am I a huge fan of Russo or Neagley, but everything as a whole, it all seems to work.

I would have thought it would have been O’Donnell that I had problems with, but he’s becoming more and more likable each episode. Despite all the negativity, I would give the episode 5.4 and look forward to the next installment.
