Platform 7 Series 1 Episode 2 Recap

The episode opens outside the Great Grand Central Rail Station. Standing in front of a security fence, Lisa Evans (Jasmine Jobson) tries to remember what happened on the night she died. Inside, Edward Warren (Phil Davis) sits on a bench watching the flurry of activity. Outside, Transport Police Constable Akash Lockhart (Yaamin Chowdhury) passes through Lisa en route to the Transport Police office. Lisa enters the station as the invisible barrier stops Edward from exiting. She tries to explain how she got out but he is too upset with her to listen. She says a visit from Evelyn Evans (Natasha Joseph) and Trevor Evans (Patrick Robinson) set her free. She claims to remember someone trying to stop her from climbing the security fence at Platform 7. She assures him that she did not take her own life. He warns against delving too deep into her death.

Edward Platform 7 ITVX

Akash is watching CCTV footage outside the rail station when Lisa approaches. Lisa can be seen running toward the rail station. An individual wearing a hoodie emerges from a dark-colored car. Ian (Nathan Graham) watches Akash from behind his desk. Later, Akash visits Richard Shale’s (Reece Ritchie) flat where he sees a hoodie matching the hoodie in the CCTV footage. Shale denies seeing Lisa after she and Matthew “Matt” Goodson (Toby Regbo) moved in together. Akash asks if he hanging around Lisa’s flat at night. Shale tells him that it is along the route that he runs. He denies remembering when he last saw Lisa. He claims to have left for a fellowship at Columbia Vale University on September 2. Akash points out that Lisa died on September on September 1. Shale claims to have only learned about Lisa’s death while staying in the States. After ordering Akash to leave, Shale angrily smashes a cup into the wall and races out the door. Lisa follows him to her gravesite. He apologizes before clumsily running away.

Lisa visits a shop where Izzy (Rhiannon Clements) is working. Izzy receives a call from Rosaria “Rosie” Diaz (Tabata Cerezo) about a visit from Akash. Rosie suggests questions about Lisa’s case have come up. Izzy says Akash does not believe Lisa committed suicide. Rosie tells her that Matt continues to beat himself up over Lisa’s death.

Akash questions why Shale left for America the day after Lisa died. Melissa (Sacha Parkinson) suggests his departure date was coincidental. He says either Lisa jumped, fell, or was pushed in front of the train. Utilizing a map, he shows the route from Lisa’s flat to the Grand Central. Melissa asks if Lisa started out from her flat. He says that is what Matt told the detectives during the inquest. He questions why she turned left on Queen’s Alley instead of taking King Street if her destination was Grand Central. He suggests Lisa was trying to lose whoever was following her. She urges him to proceed with caution if Inspector Barker (Mark Noble) is unaware of his investigation.

Lisa watches Edward’s daughter, Ella Warren (Emily Carey), and son, Luke Warren (Adam Long) approach Platform 7. Inside a café, Luke suggests the visit could help them find closure but she disagrees. He urges her to talk to a counselor about what happened. She assures him that she is fine. Grabbing her bag, he pulls out a bottle of vodka. She attributes her drinking to weakness and self-indulgence. He apologizes for the way he treated her. She suggests if he can help her, it will make him feel better about Edward. He says Edward committing suicide is the only decent thing he ever did. He admits to wishing Edward had done it years ago. Ella agrees before leaving with her vodka. Later, Lisa informs Edward of Ella and Luke visiting Platform 7. He attributes Luke’s anger toward him to their inability to bond. She says when Ella visited the rail station after he died, she was crying. Edward admits it is gratifying to know she grieved his death.

Izzy tells Akash that she and Lisa had a falling out but she never believed she would take her own life. She breaks down while talking about Lisa’s death.

The Domino – Lisa remembers her birthday party. Shale watches Lisa, Rosie, and Izzy singing karaoke. In a flashback, Izzy tries to get Lisa to tell her why she is upset. Izzy tells Rosie about Akash’s investigation into Lisa’s death. She asks if she ever saw Lisa depressed. Rosie asks why else would she commit suicide. Izzy denies seeing Lisa depressed since they first met at 11 years old. Rosie says Matt described Lisa’s depression as “sudden-onset bipolar”. She suggests something happened between Matt and Izzy before accusing her of being jealous of him. Rosie tells her that it is “callous” to blame one person for Lisa’s death.

Lisa Platform 7 ITVX

Lisa has a flashback of young Ella (Sophia Rowlands). Ella admits to drinking all the time. She explains how “he” is always messing with her head when she is sober. She looks at a photo of herself at 11. He asks if Edward was doing it to her then. She asks what happened when he confronted him. Luke claims to have threatened to expose him. Upset, she asks why the alcohol no longer helps to keep out the memories. She agrees to go to therapy. He vows to go with her. Lisa looks at the photo of young Ella and young Luke.

Lisa tells Edward that a girl in one of her classes exhibited behavior that was concerning. She claims the student touched herself and spoke of sex. She admits to reporting it to a safeguarding leader who later said the father denied the girl exhibited that type of behavior at home. She says the father was on the Board of Governors and a financial backer of the school. She accuses him of committing suicide to avoid being exposed. Edward assures her that his and Ella’s relationship was consensual. She agrees with Luke that he should have taken his life years ago.

Ella arrives at Platform 7. Edward calls her name. She talks to have about the things he said to her. She reminds him that she was a child. She curses him and threatens to ruin his reputation. She tells him that she survived and vows to omit him from her memory before spitting on the track.

Barker asks Ian if he knew Akash requested the CID file on Lisa’s case. Ian denies knowing anything about it. Barker threatens to fire him if Akash isn’t in his by the close of play. Ian calls Akash to inform him of Barker’s order. Spotting Shale, Akash ends the call.

Matt Platform 7 ITVX

Lisa is at Matt’s flat when he arrives home with a girl. He tells her that Lisa became someone completely different after they moved in together. He claims she was very controlling and jealous. He a week after he ended their relationship, she jumped in front of a train. He suggests it was to punish him. The girl assures him that it was not his fault. Lisa spots a hoodie hanging on a chair similar to the one in the CCTV footage. She says Matt is the one who was chasing her. The episode ends.

 

Platform 7 Review

Lisa learns why Edward committed suicide. He had been molesting his daughter, Ella since she was a young girl. Lisa had a past encounter with Ella when she noticed her exhibiting strange behavior. She reported the behavior to a school safety officer. Edward insisted that Ella learned the behavior from an older classmate. The complaint was dropped because Edward was a financial supporter of the school and a board member. Ella told Luke about the molestation. He threatened to expose Edward but he takes his own life. Ella vows to ruin his reputation.

Inspector Barker is irate when he discovers Akash is investigating Lisa’s death without his knowledge. He threatens to terminate Ian if Akash isn’t in his office by the end of the shift.

Lisa is at Matt’s flat when he brings a girl home. He tells her that Lisa was controlling and jealous. He claims to have ended their relationship and a week later, she committed suicide. He pursued Lisa from their flat to Grand Central.

Shale agrees to tell Akash everything.
