When she looks in the mirror, she sees Jules’s face. The dream is their own memory. Jules may be able to help them see more memories. She explains that there is a study drug at school that causes the kids to “dream trip”. Jules makes the drug. She leaves to get the drug so they can do it together and see if they have any memories. Kira approaches Emily who left the CIA to work for Paul Darros. She suspects Emily is hiding something from her. Kira is told to find Lucy before they do if she wants to keep her safe. Orphan Black: Echoes Review

Through three episodes, it has been genuinely difficult to care about Orphan Black: Echoes. The series has too much going against it to allow it to live up to the hype of the original series. For starters, the dialogue is absolutely horrendous, especially Dayton’s conversation with Jules in the hospital. With that type of corny dialogue, it is hard to know who the writers are trying to attract.

No one talks in such an infantile way. The performances are hit or miss. Even the usually impeccable Keeley Hawes doesn’t fit into the puzzle very well. It could be her being required to use an accent that isn’t natural to her. No one really stands out as being good and the same can be said about the characters. If any of the characters were killed in this episode, no one would shed a tear because there is no connection to any of them.

It feels like a soulless, weak replication of the original and a money grab to capitalize on the name. If the story was a bit more believable and the dialogue wasn’t so stupid, the series might be more tolerable. Otherwise, this is a series to leave on in the background while doing chores around your house.

This episode scores a 4.5 out of 10 mainly because of the infantile dialogue and lifeless characters. Recaps of Orphan Black: Echoes are available on Reel Mockery here.
