Never Missed A Pigeon – The episode begins with Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) escorting a blindfolded Iris (Emma Laird) into a boat. They ride out to a recently drug-seized sailboat, “Bad Optics” before he approves her removing the blindfold. He admits to not having any sailing skills.
Vanessa (Latarsha Rose) follows the steps downstairs to a distraught Captain Kareem (Michael Beach). When Regina (Sydney Johnson) approaches, she orders her to go back to bed while she comforts Kareem.
Prison guard (Ezekiel Boston) calls in a physical altercation between a group of inmates but they agree no one cares.
A young boy watches a violent attack in the street.
Robert (Hamish Allan-Headley) leads a raid on a cookhouse. A suspect is killed when he refuses to drop his weapon.
Iris insists on staying on the boat while Mike goes to work. Ian (Hugh Dillon) alerts him of an incident at Grape and 24th streets. He shoots a dog feeding on a dead corpse. When Mike approaches, Ian informs him of Robert’s team hitting a depot at the Towers on a tip called in by a Blood. Mike orders him to bring Robert to Don’s in two hours.
An irate Deverin “Bunny” Washington (Tobi Bamtefa) tells Mike that they call for peace but get his cook house raided.
Miriam McLusky (Dianne Wiest) refuses to hold a class while the inmates are guarded by prison officers.
Kareem admits to being grateful he’s alive. The Psychiatrist (David Vegh) questions why he never reported a sexual assault when two guards claim to have witnessed it. Kareem suggests the guards confused him with someone else. The psychiatrist tells him that it’s normal for sexual assault victims to feel unwarranted guilt. Kareem denies the allegations before asking to be cleared to return to work. The psychiatrist asks if he feels the need to avenge his attack. Kareem tells him that he only wants to finish a career that he’s already invested 25 years in. The psychiatrist clears him for active duty.
Mike pulls up in front of Mario’s Cell Phone Repair to meet Bunny. He informs him that the police received a tip from a Blood. Bunny promises to put the police on the Bloods’ entire Alamo. Mike suggests new leadership. Bunny says there is no one available to pick. Mike warns him that the streets will be filled with tanks. After reminding him that the inmates inside the prison run the outside, Bunny says the guards aren’t letting them get any drugs in or money out. Mike tells him that the inmates killed 33 guards and raped others with their own Billy clubs.
Carney (Lane Garrison) says the inmates are so hot they look like zombies. Mike asks if he has any idea who will be running it. Carney suggests it’ll be the Mexicans because the Whites lost Duke and the Crips and Bloods lost their weapons. Mike says they can’t raid their cookhouses while this thing plays out. Robert reminds him that it’s his job. Mike tells him that the Crips need to be in control or the cops will be under attack. He tells them to ramp up street patrol and ease up until it plays out. Carney informs him that Ad Seg is now in with general population. Mike asks about Milo Sunter (Aidan Gillen). Ian says his name isn’t on their DOA list. Carney tells him that they’re still identifying bodies which have been held up by burnt computers.
Stevie (Derek Webster) tells Mike that he was the last person Duke talked to before he was killed. Mike asks if he has Duke’s phone. Stevie says it’s important he knows what got broke. Mike assures him that everything is broken.
Carney tells Kareem that the inmates are being held free of security cameras. Kareem beats all the inmates. A guard warns Carney that Kareem’s going to kill him. After assuring him that no one cares, Carney suggests blaming the Mexicans.
Rebecca (Nichole Galicia) alerts Mike of a call from inmate representative, Wendy Morris from the Warwick Group. He says tell to her to “fu** off.”
Mike meets with Evelyn Foley (Necar Zadegan) at the morgue. She warns him that IA will be after his SWAT buddy. He reminds her of SWAT saving his brother, Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley) who took a job upstate. He demands to know why she never informed him that Milo isn’t on the DOA list. She admits to assuming he already knew. He asks how many inmates are left to identify. She says 197 deceased and 724 investigations. After assuring her that Milo escaped, he says she’ll need to file an alert.
Mike approaches as an Old Man (Tommy Laffitte) releases a homing pigeon. The Old Man claims he and his son in Detroit correspond every Wednesday via the homing pigeon. Mike asks why he doesn’t utilize the phone. Special Agent Leclerc (Gena Shaw) and Special Agent Song (Frank Licari) tell Mike that they have a safe house lined up for Iris but he can’t go. He warns them that she probably won’t go if he doesn’t take her. When Iris refuses to go, Mike tells her that it’s an opportunity for a new life. She reminds him that they won’t be able to talk. He watches as she gets in the agent’s car.
Mariam’s robbed by Marco Diaz (Steven Rodriguez) after leaving a convenience store.
Morass (Michael Gaston) warns Kyle that they’ve been spotted. When Kyle grabs his gun, Morass reminds him of Canadians being unarmed. Kyle assures him that all smugglers have guns before activating the alarm. Morass boards the boat unarmed, followed by Kyle who orders the smugglers to give up their drugs. Morass says they are only avoiding the tariff on syrup. The smuggler agrees to pay the tariff. Morass and Kyle get into a verbal dispute.
Stevie informs Miriam that the robber was caught a few blocks away. She tells Ian that she’ll not press charges against Marco. Ian says he has an extensive juvenile record. She orders them to let him go. Ian warns her that she could have been killed.
Iris approaches as the special agents are discussing Milo. The female agent assures her that Milo is probably beneath the prison. Iris asks if her being there is voluntary. The agent warns her that they can’t protect her if she goes out alone. Iris assures them that they’ll not stop Milo from taking her.
Mike’s pouring himself a drink in his office when Iris enters. She asks if Milo’s alive. He says it’s probably true as the episode comes to an end.
Mayor Of Kingstown Season 2 Synopsis
Captain Kareem’s having nightmares about the prison break. Prison guards reported seeing him sexually assaulted by several inmates but he denies it happened. The psychiatrist clears him to return to active duty.
Robert raids a Crips’ cookhouse. Mike wants the prison under the Crips’ control because of his connection to Bunny. He warns Robert that it’s risky to raid the gangs’ cookhouses while it’s playing out. Stevie knows Mike was the last person to talk to Duke before he was killed.
When Mike finds out that Milo’s body wasn’t found in the prison carnage, he plans to put Iris in witness protection. The morgue has identified 197 bodies. Mike suggests Evelyn file an alert on Milo but she refuses until there is evidence that validates he’s alive.
Iris refuses to stay in witness protection when she discovers Milo may be alive.
Kyle struggles to fit in at his new job. It’s more laid-back than what he’s used to in Kingstown.
Kareem beats several inmates that were probably linked to his assault. Carney says they’ll pin it on the Mexicans.
Mariam’s robbed outside a convenience store but refuses to press charges.
Mayor Of Kingstown Review
Not a strong second season opening but decent, nonetheless. Not much has changed except a few missing prison guards and Kyle who is working upstate. The story picks up where it left off in the season one finale.

Not impressed!! Same ole shoot ‘em up beat ‘em down as first season. Mikes head is not in the game. His real focus is TOXIC Iris. He has totally lost control because of her. She makes him look weak and ineffective. He is dumb enough to bring her to his brothers house with his pregnant sister in law. Based on episode 2 previews, knowing Milo is out!!! How stupid and unthinking is that? If she cared about Mike or his family she would have stayed put. She has an agenda and she is going to get some or all of Mikes family killed which is exactly what Milo is counting on. She needs to go. Doubt if I watch anymore!!!! Not worth an hour of my time!
That sounds about right and the same thing I suspected as well. Everyone seems to be on a Taylor Sheridan kick right now but many of his shows are just formulaic like that. Pretty basic stories without too much depth even though they can be enjoyable without needing to use the old noggin much. Thanks for stopping by!
This sentiment is exactly why I quit watching Yellowstone. Just a show that’s become goldfish floating around the same bowl over and over, covering the same ground over and over, committing the same acts over and over, and without any notion of hubris written into the story.
I’m still ok with Mayor, also 1923 despie the fact that both shows suffer from the same contrivance (as did 1883). Yellowstone jumped the shark for me a while back.
Could be Sheridan tackling too many projects and just phoning it home at this point. Not saying I wouldn’t do the same if they were just signing contracts left and right for everything put in front of them lol. I still need to finish Tulsa King too. Kingstown seems to be getting a lot more attention this year. Odd how the biggest shows sometimes fly under the radar during the first and seconds seasons like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad did. Game of Thrones as well.
Will be interesting to see what happens with a possible 3rd season given Jeremy’s unfortunate accident and likely lengthy recovery.
I don’t think Jeremy will be back on screen again for a long time if ever again. I had a “vision” that Joel Edgerton would replace him. Don’t ask how that popped into my head. It just did 😆
Ha! That’d actually be a good choice. Do agree that it is unlikely he’ll be able to return at least without a lengthy recovery if ever. They could kill off the character, replace him, or so on though. I keep thinking Raymond Burr in Ironside for some reason. They’ll have to halt Kingstown and Hawkeye unless they move on without him. Sad all around unfortunately. Just enjoy the season and don’t look past it I suppose.
