Mattel has announced the upcoming release of two new Barbie specials. The first special, Barbie & Chelsea The Lost Birthday, is the first dedicated television movie featuring Barbie’s younger sister, Chelsea, in the starring role. The special is set to launch globally on broadcaster and streaming services sometime this spring. The second special will follow the success of Barbie Princess Adventure which was released last year.
The musical is set to follow Barbie and her friends to New York City. Barbie & Chelsea The Lost Birthday is directed by Cassi Simonds who previously worked on Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures. It will tell the story of Barbie’s younger sister Chelsea and the rest of the Roberts family as they go on an adventure for Chelsea’s 7th birthday.
When the group crosses the International Date Line, Chelsea realizes her actual birthday has been lost and immediately sets out to journey through the enchanted jungle island to save it. The 60-minute special will be available on Netflix in the United States, Cartoonito in Italy, Pop in the UK, 9Go! in Australia, and Carousel in Russia.
