The episode opens with the death of Nuray Batuk’s (Oyku Karayel) father. Hamza (Kenan Ece) makes the discovery and chooses not to alert Nuray, who arrives minutes later beside herself.

Elsewhere, Michael Kinsella (Charlie Cox) is just as distraught as rushes into his apartment to retrieve a pistol taped to the back of his refrigerator. Amanda Kinsella (Clare Dunne) and Bridget “Birdy” Goggins (Maria Doyle Kennedy) attempt to reason with him, but it isn’t until Birdy proposes a different way to eliminate Bren Kinsella (Francis Magee) that he begins to listen.

Eric “Viking” Kinsella (Sam Keeley) shares what few details he can about with Bren and Jimmy Kinsella (Emmett J. Scanlan) about the botched attempt on his life. Jimmy concludes that the attempt is related to Ged Delaney’s (Baz Black) killing. As Viking steps away to answer an incoming call, Bren informs Jimmy that he’ll be relying on him more and more.

Amanda tries and fails to give Michael advice about dealing with teenagers as she drops him off at the community center to confront Anna Areoye (Hannah Adeogun). Inside their discussion quickly turns into an argument that ends with him declaring Bren dangerous and demanding she stay away from him.

Viking’s meeting with Donal Crehan (Paul Tylak) turns into a confrontation when he arrives to collect Nikita “Nikki” Murphy (Yasmin Seky) from police custody and feels he is intentionally stepping on his good mood. While Viking sees Nikki’s release as a win, Donal is quick to remind him that it’s merely temporary. Even as she’s being released, Nikki appears to struggle after learning that her mobile won’t be returned. Although she thanks Donal and he promises to keep her appraised, her frustration bleeds out into a huge argument with Viking.

Frustrated and unable to reach Molly (Danielle Galligan), Michael decides to pay a visit to the pharmacy. Once there, he learns from a coworker (Paula McGlinchey) that Molly is not only off until after the holidays but she’ll be returning as a married woman.

After returning home, Nikki packs a suitcase as Viking tries to assure her that he will do whatever is necessary to make sure she stays out of jail. She tells him that if anything happens to Jess Duggan (Shauna Higgins) she will go to the Garda Station herself and turn him in. He tells her to not joke about such things as she wheels her now-packed suitcase outside.

While Anthony Kinsella (Mark McKenna Jr.) watches what appears to be a viral threat video to Viking, Bren attempts to arrange another meeting with Anna. When Anthony arrives and shares the video in private, it’s revealed that Clayton Finn (Kyle Bradley Donaldson) and Glen Wright (Ben Carolan) are behind the video. Bren assures him that he’ll handle it while also making him promise to keep the video to himself.

When Birdy unexpectedly reappears at Frank Kinsella’s (Aidan Gillen) front door, he makes a joke about her being on suicide watch before inviting her in. She immediately lets him know he’s not funny and claims to have a plan to help them get free of Bren’s grasp.

Differing opinions on how to respond to Nikki’s leaving result in an argument between Bren and Viking.

Amanda receives an unexpected call from Rory Hayes (Cathal Pendred) with alarming news that Bren is seeking several men for an upcoming job. She thanks him as he encourages her to watch her back. Nuray apparently becomes suspicious of Hamza and several business associates as she watches them from her father’s balcony. When she approaches him, he reluctantly admits to the family’s fears of looking weak because of the way she is handling the Kinsellas. Before leaving them, she assures him she will show her ruthless side should anyone choose to cross her.

Michael is several beers into a 12-pack when Amanda shows up to share news of Rafit Batuk’s death. She informs him of another meeting with Wayne Madigan (Jack Meade) that she called for in an attempt to head off an attack from Hamza. She asks about his meeting with Anna as she joins him for a drink.

Viking arrives in a sour mood at the Crehan Law Offices where the receptionist (Cara Christie) makes him wait while she alerts Donal to his presence. It doesn’t take long for their argument to turn physical when Viking blames him for Nikki’s leaving. Donal makes the mistake of turning his back on him when he tries to call Bren and pays for it.

Bren and Jimmy meet with a real estate agent (Donna Anita Nikolaisen) for an apartment walkthrough. Bren dismisses the agent and reminds Jimmy that he already has a home. He says the apartment is nice and will no doubt get him laid plenty, but it’s just a matter of dealing with Amanda to get him back home.

While Amanda and Michael continue to drink, she tries unsuccessfully to get him to open up about Molly. He refuses but is willing to talk about Anna. Amanda appears horrified when he says that Anna likes Bren and thinks of him as a nice old man who likes buying her gifts. Things quickly turn intimate when he confesses his fears of going through what she did with Jamie Kinsella (Cian Fitzsimons).

From the balcony of his office at the Furry Bog, Bren watches Lee Reid Matt Lenehan) arrive for their meeting. As Lee makes his way upstairs, Bren phones someone he refers to as Derek Ward (Jack Walsh) and confirms tomorrow’s plans. Without revealing details, Bren offers Lee the opportunity to earn 20 grand.

Arriving to collect Frank Kinsella (Aidan Gillen) at a local pub, Dan Murphy (Donncha Tynan) finds him passed out and has to help him get to the vehicle. On their way home, Frank thanks him for coming and promises to take care of him before he leaves. Although Dan asks him several questions to figure out the meaning of his statement, Frank doesn’t reveal anything further.

Waking extremely early the following morning at Michaels, Amanda tries to sneak back home without alerting Anthony. She fails when she encounters him fully dressed and claiming to be on his way to the gym. She apologizes for last night’s absence and tries to use work as a cover. He simply smiles at her and asks why she didn’t take her car.

Dan escorts Frank to the church where he attempts to pay Father Deegan (Aidan O’Hare) for the broken window. Although Deegan doesn’t want the money, Frank forces it into his pocket and offers extra for the collection plate. Frank gets upset and an abrupt argument ensues when Deegan tells him that he’ll never be happy with the life he’s living. Frank asks about his life and teases him about the church’s steady drop in attendance before storming off.

Michael visits Amanda to stress how dangerous their sleeping together is and the hurt it could cause. She only gets the opportunity to say that she doesn’t want to feel guilty about it and alludes to wanting it to continue before Birdy arrives to discuss their Bren problem.

Elsewhere, Bren and Lee meet with Derek to pick up a pistol. Derek is affronted when Bren warns him that the pistol better work. He then gives it to Lee and confirms that he is aware of his orders before threatening him not to botch their play. With Reid gone, Bren asks Derek if he still deals with designer clothes. After confirming he does, Bren shows him a photo of a dress that he wants. He tells him he doesn’t care what it costs and he’s buying it for his granddaughter.

Before joining the other mourners for Rafik’s funeral, Hamza calls Wayne to offer whatever resources he needs to make his move against the Kinsellas. Wayne only agrees to make the move but is encouraged to jump up his timeline from several weeks to one week. When the call ends, Wayne returns to his meeting with Amanda, Michael, and Zehab Can (George Georgiou) to hash out the final details of their first Fenethylline shipment. Everything appears to be going smoothly until Wayne learns the shipment will take several weeks. He says it needs to be next week or he’s not interested. Zehab claims he might be able to use his UK contact but future and much bigger orders will require more time. As he is leaving the table, Michael gives him the details for wiring his half of the cost.

Jimmy joins Bren at the Furry Bog to show him the same video that Anthony shared with him earlier. He also reveals that Glen was the one to kill Jamie and wants to personally dole out the payback. Although Jimmy isn’t happy that Bren says he’ll have to think about it, he doesn’t get a chance to dispute it thanks to a phone call, alerting him of Dan’s arrival.

Viking visits Birdy to discuss Nikki’s arrest. As he shares the evidence and charges, she says he should have come to her, she could have arranged the hit on the eyewitness. She agrees to help once he says he’s coming to her now, but says that she’ll need something in return.

While making a stop at a convenience, Finn informs Glen of Viking’s location at Birdy’s and suggests making a move. Once again, Glen doesn’t appear to be in a rush. On their way out, they are shot by a masked man, later revealed to be Anthony. Lee is at the wheel of the getaway car and when he turns around to make sure they aren’t being followed, he hits and kills someone.

 

KIN Review

Unfortunately, this entire season has felt like a bit of a waste and continues to only get worse. I can’t say that I am not enjoying it because that would be a lie. I will give due diligence with the killings. As with Kem and Jamie’s death, the killing of Glen and Finn was incredibly intense. This may have something to do with the fact that this gangland-style series has so few killings.

Surprisingly, I’m finding the Nikki and Viking situation intriguing, whereas the Michael and Amanda affair is kind of a turnoff. I also found the content with Molly unappealing, until it came out of left field that she is getting married. I wasn’t expecting that. I’d give the episode a 5.5 out of 10 intrigued to see how they wrap it all up.
