Justified City Primeval Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

You Good? – At the episode starts, Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) wakes in the bed of Carolyn Wilder (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor). After peeking outside, he meets her in the bathroom to say there are no Albanians outside. She quickly insists their sleeping together will not impact her work. Heading outside Raylan runs into Jamal (Amin Joseph) who refuses to reveal his intentions.

Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook) and Sandy Stanton (Adelaide Clemens) meet with Sweetie (Vondie Curtis-Hall) to discuss Judge Alvin Guy’s (Keith David) black book. Mansell runs down names until they find a suitable test subject. The mention of a local Albanian scares Sandy off. A frustrated Mansell asks Sweetie if he has a target in mind. Sweetie suggests Burt Dickey (David Cross) who earned the name Bulldozer Burt before mentioning his home in Bloomfield.

Justified: City Primeval Review

Episode 5 certainly wasn’t the most exciting one yet. It wasn’t the worst, either. In fact, I’m feeling a little more inspired about the reboot after this one. The series hasn’t been incredibly impressive thus far, but with the key players in prime positions on the board, the suspense is off the charts.

Raylan’s relationship with Carolyn is unbelievable. What I don’t appreciate is how she acts like a goddess, immediately throwing out stipulations like it’s a privilege to sleep with her. I could also do without all of Jamal’s mayonnaise remarks and the comparison of Marshals to slave herders. If you ask me, that’s just distasteful.

I also said in my last review that I think Wendell and Raylan would make a more enjoyable team. I could have been around about that. As of current, I’m not awfully impressed. I still enjoyed the episode and would give it a 5 out of 10.
