On November 28, 2022, BBC and CBS Studios announced Grantchester actor James Norton has joined the cast of its new historical drama, “King and Conqueror”. Norton will play alongside, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (The Flash, Black Hawk Down, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch). Norton and Coster-Waldau will also serve as executive producers.
The eight-episode period drama series is produced by CBS Studios. Rabbit Track Pictures, Norton’s production company, and TDP Development Partnership in consortium with BBC studios.
King and Conqueror retells the historical tales of the landmark meeting with Harold, Earl of Wessex (James Norton), and William, Duke of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) that shaped the future of the continent for a thousand years.
Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy are two allies who find themselves forced into a battle for possession of the British throne. It all culminates at the bloody Battle of Hastings in 1066 when one is slain and the other continues his ascent to the throne.
The show will be filmed in Iceland next year. It will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
