The Rising Tide is adapted from the Ann Cleeves’ novel of the same name. “Vera,” a crime drama series set in the fictional town of Northumberland, follows the murder investigations of DCI Vera Stanhope. The series premiered on May 1, 2011, on ITV.

The Rising Tide, written by Sally Abbott, is a one-episode Christmas special, scheduled to air just in time for the holidays. Vera travels to the island of Lindisfarne to investigate a murder. Every five years, friends pay tribute to their lifelong friendship by reuniting at Lindisfarne.

What is meant to be a joyous commemoration of friendship turns out to be a heartbreaking murder investigation. Vera’s investigation uncovers the victim’s recent termination of employment related to misconduct allegations.

Kenny Doughty (Detective Sergeant Aiden Healy), Jon Morrison (DC Kenny Lockhart), Riley Jones (DC Mark Edwards), Ibinabo Jack (DC Jac Williams), and Sarah Kameela Impey (Pathologist Dr. Paula Bennett) have joined The Rising Tide cast.

Ibinabo Jack and Kenny Doughty recently announced their departure from the series.

ITV announced earlier this year that Vera had been renewed for season 13. The release date for Vera season 13 is not official yet but reliable sources are saying in early 2024.
