Guilt Season 3 Episode 3 Recap

As this episode of Guilt begins, Danny (Anders Hayward) and Skye Burns (Amelia Isaac Jones) plan the hold-up. Skye asks what will happen to him if it doesn’t work. Danny says he won’t do anything to him. Skye explains that he thinks this is his plan so they will too. Danny imagines they’d give him a good hiding, but they likely won’t do anything more. Skye speculates she’ll get a flatshare uptown and pretend to be a proper student. Danny says she’ll leave Leith behind with him in it. Skye kisses him before saying they should see how tonight goes before she decides what she is leaving behind. Danny instructs her to aim high. While wearing the costume head, Skye tries to shoot Danny that night.

Danny’s gang chases her only to lose her so they go to the flat where she is supposed to be living. Skye watches as they throw Al McKee to his death. Maggie Lynch (Phyllis Logan) asks Teddy McLean (Greg McHugh) about taking care of the brothers. She tells him that he’ll get his money Friday, but there is work to do first. Teddy isn’t happy about that since it wasn’t part of their deal. Aliza Hillerby (Tamsin Topolski) gets a call from Richard (Hari Dhillon) who tells her to sign what she needs to sign, get out, and enjoy herself. As the conversation continues, Aliza walks past Teddy. Richard admits he called him because he wants the deal done.

Teddy tells Maggie that he found nothing in her room because she is very tidy. When he asks if there was anything else, Maggie tells him not to stray too far because there will be. Max McCall (Mark Bonnar) looks through pictures of Aliza and her room. He tells Jake (Jamie Sives) and Kenny Burns (Emun Elliott) that they should be interested in her since Maggie Lynch is. Teddy says she works in another room, but they’ll need a key card for it. Max tells Skye that he has a job for her. He is forced to offer her 20 grand although Kenny doesn’t want her involved. Skye says she got herself into this and she is staying until she gets herself out of it. When Jake asks his brother where they’re going to stay, Max says that is their job.

They visit Sheila Gemmell (Ellie Haddington) who tells Max that he looks tired. Yvonne Nixon (Isaura Barbe-Brown) confronts Carrie (Anita Vettesse) when she leaves her flat. Max speaks to Sheila about her new man who bought her a vehicle. She isn’t sure how much longer he has because his heart isn’t great. Max tells her that they need a place to stay for a few days with someone who won’t ask any questions. Sheila wants five grand a night. Sheila asks Skye who she is and Skye repays the favor. Then, she asks Jake about Angie. Jake explains that Angie felt their relationship would be stronger if they were apart. Max tells Sheila they’ll need her car so she increases the price to six grand a night. He says she’ll get her money.

When he sees the newspaper and a picture of Aliza with Jim Sturrock, Max says they all will. Carrie tells Yvonne that she doesn’t know anything. She goes on to say her brother works in the law. She’ll get in touch with him if there is any funny business. Kenny has to hide when he sees Yvonne outside of Carrie’s flat. Skye pretends to be a cleaner and manages to get into Aliza’s room. Kenny sits down with Carrie and tells her that Skye is with her lawyer. Carrie is adamant that Skye needs protection because she is just a kid. As Carrie talks about how she has done her best, Kenny notices something. Jake overhears Aliza asking the worker to deliver the food to the conference room because she is going to continue working.

He tries to stall her by asking her about the aubergine that she ordered, but it doesn’t work. When Aliza makes it back, Skye is coming out and apologizes if it looks like she has barely touched it. Skye takes what she got back to Max who confirms it is what they needed. During dinner that night, Yvonne asks Kenny why he never talks about his family. Kenny says he is out of his league as is. They agree it might be a good idea to talk about work. Yvonne wants to know that he isn’t doing anything actively illegal. Kenny says he is working with others to take down Maggie Lynch and he is cutting the odd corner to do so. Yvonne says she is doing the same. Yvonne confesses she is thinking that maybe she doesn’t like being a detective as much as she thought.

Kenny doesn’t want to let her throw that away, but Yvonne reminds him that it is a decision for her to make. Skye meets Danny and says she is only back to get the money to leave. She insists she’ll pay him back before she does. Danny thinks she can go somewhere different and do something different. He could do the same. Skye says there is something happening with Maggie Lynch. Money is involved and it could change things for whoever gets it. She asks if he would do it if he had the opportunity. After he says yes, Skye questions whether they have the opportunity. Sheila tells Jake that she could see what kind of man Max was the first time he came to her door.

She thought he was someone who believed the world only existed for him and the rest of them are only collateral. Sheila argues whatever Max is planning is for him. He needs the rest of them to help him get it, but it is for him unless Jake lets her help him get what he deserves. At night, she has a whisky and tries not to think about the past. Instead, she thinks about the future and makes plans. There is something about the night and the whisky that makes her brave. Sheila says she’ll be there tonight if Jake wants to join her to think about his future. Jake says she is wrong about this because they’re working together. Sheila questions what he is doing now.

Max tells Jim Sturrock’s receptionist to give him an envelope and to tell him it is from a friend from the Osprey Club. When Maggie asks Danny why she ran, he admits he doesn’t know. Maggie suggests Danny is distracted by her, but he says Skye isn’t his type. Danny explains that he ended up with them because of the young offenders program at Polmont. Maggie says Roy always had a soft place for that place and the kids who came out of it. Danny confesses he doesn’t have anyone in this world besides Maggie Lynch. She offers to give him the drugs network if he is still with her on Friday. Maggie has brought backup to make sure things get done.

Aliza continues working through the documents. She calls Richard to confirm there is nothing here because the bank has been creative. She’ll confirm the deal and get things ready for the announcement tomorrow. Aliza asks whether he can authorize her to get access to their financials since she can’t log in. After learning why she needs access, Richard agrees to have it reinstated. Max approaches Jim Sturrock and talks to him about the time they met previously. Jim just wants to know where Max got it, but Max will only say he didn’t get it from the American. Max suspects she has seen all the other holes in the document that he doesn’t know about.

Jim says she has signed an NDA while Max has stolen information. Jim claims there is nothing illegal in there so whatever Max is trying to do won’t work. Max thinks the National Bank of Caledonia doesn’t have a pot to piss in. He believes they need to see the sale go through tomorrow before the wheels come off and Maggie Lynch is helping him do it. In return, Jim could be helping Maggie with her current difficulties. Max wants that money instead. Jim remembers Max being there as someone’s guest that night. When Jim learned that he was nicked for a hit-and-run, he thought that was about right. Max says he was the only one at his table who hadn’t gone to the right school. He claims that they laughed at Jim.

Max tells Jim how he was laundering money for Roy and Maggie Lynch. One day, Roy gave him a form he shouldn’t have and Max realized it was an NBC account. Although it was surprising at the time, it isn’t anymore. Max believes Jim looked after their money for a long time. He argues that is a daft thing for a clever man like Jim to do. Jim would’ve only done that if they had something on him. Jim asks Max what he is proposing. Max says he can give him the evidence of the money laundering instead of the police. Jim can give him the money instead of Maggie. Jim will need to take care of the American and whatever she can do to stop it. Jim tells Max to meet him at the club and to bring everything he has. They can agree to the terms.

Maggie tells Teddy about a porter at the Royal Mile Hotel that owes them around 5,000 pounds yesterday. He doesn’t owe them anything today because he told them that he saw Max hanging around the motel. He thought that information would be beneficial to Maggie. When she asks where they are, Teddy claims not to know. He also doesn’t know what Max was doing in the motel. Maggie warns him that Max being alive and being involved in her affairs aren’t good for him. She tells him that her man has a gun and she has something even better. Teddy sees his dad with Maggie’s men nearby. Despite that, Teddy insists he doesn’t know where they are. Maggie tells Teddy that he and his dad have until tonight.

Yvonne meets Stevie Malone (Henry Pettigrew) to say they’ve been ordered to cease any investigation into Maggie Lynch. Stevie suspects they know she is leaving and they want her to go and take the power she has over them with her. He warns Yvonne that it’ll be the last thing she does if she doesn’t stop. Yvonne is ready to go, but she is going to take Maggie with her. Stevie agrees to keep watching her and let her know when he sees something interesting. He believes Yvonne will have to decide what she’ll give up to get Maggie at some point. Max tells Jake that he bought the suit with their dad’s money. Jake tells him that the road out there speaks to him.

When they begin talking about the plan, Jake suggests going somewhere else and just starting again. Max explains why is so adamant about getting Maggie’s money. He also believes Jake is there because he knows he can pull this off. Jake asks if he was going to split the money with him in Chicago. Max says no because Jake had Angie. He felt he needed that money more because Jake had a life of sorts while he had nothing. Max is going to get the money tomorrow. When he does, he is going to give Kenny, Skye, and the witch downstairs what they need. Then, he is going to split the rest with Jake because they’re both looking for a life. Jake thanks him for not lying again. Max says no more lies. Yvonne calls Kenny to say she wants to get out, get Maggie, and she wants to do it together.

Teddy goes to Kenny’s office to speak to him. He wants to know where Max is, but Kenny isn’t eager to tell him. Teddy says Maggie has his dad and he believes Max can come up with something. Kenny doesn’t want to tell Teddy because Max and Jake are with Skye. Teddy says he tried with the Zen and tried not being who he is. Right now, he can feel the Zen legging out of his body. Teddy yells at Kenny asking where they are. Stevie contacts Yvonne to say Maggie just dropped two goons off at The Royal Mile Hotel. There is a sign in reception welcoming the Americans who are buying Jim Sturrock’s bank. He is going to follow Maggie so he recommends Yvonne get to the motel.

Yvonne doesn’t have time to enter Kenny’s office and instead leaves to get to the hotel. Danny uses the bathroom so he can send a text before returning to Maggie’s man. Jake asks Skye where she went, but she doesn’t want to tell him. He tells her how he’d like to open a recording studio in Berlin. Jake thinks she should take her way out if she has one because Max often takes other people’s possibilities. Aliza tells Jim that his paperwork looks good. She believes they’re re-hypothecating assets that they may not actually have. She followed an off balance-sheet vehicle all the way across the world and found it at the end. It was in their accounts listed with the same eight billion.

Jim says there is nothing wrong with disguising ownership. Aliza thought the vehicle could’ve been full of subprime stuff. When she got into the vehicle, she found that it was empty. Any collateral they had is long gone. Aliza believes only Jim and Richard know that those loans are worthless. The deal is Jim’s way out. She tells him to pull the deal tonight or she’ll go public with that information. Jim offers to cut her into the deal, but Aliza gives him one hour to make a decision. When Max tries to meet Jim, he finds Maggie waiting for him. Richard calls Aliza to tell her to pack a bag because she is coming back. Aliza says she isn’t going to let him cash out and get out. They continue arguing about the paperwork as Aliza realizes she has been locked out of the conference room.

Richard says she doesn’t have any paperwork because there was no paperwork. He offers to get her out of there for her own good because Jim is not like them. Maggie tells Max that Jim Sturrock will do what she tells him. She says Max has no need for money anymore. Aliza finds Jim in her room. He tells her how he worked at a small bank in Leith and one family put enough money through to keep the lights on. His boss thought they were criminals so he decided to tell the head office. He never made it and Jim got promoted in his place. Then, he got promoted many more times. He wants her to imagine what he’d do now that he has everything to lose. Skye walks past Danny and Maggie’s man while pretending to be housekeeping.

Stevie stops Maggie as she tries to escort Max out of the motel. Maggie claims it was him who sent the police to the farm so she’ll get around to him soon enough. Maggie is forced to let Max go. Maggie says it means they’ll be together at the end. Yvonne walks past Skye who seems to be leaving the motel. Yvonne chases her only to find her cart outside. Yvonne sees her in the car with Danny before they drive away. Jake and Sheila drink together later that night.

Guilt Review

Through three episodes of Guilt’s final season, it is clear that the season is well done although it doesn’t quite hit the mark. As mentioned in my previous reviews, the season just feels a bit dull. While I am eager to see how things end for Max, Jake, and the others, I don’t feel any genuine concern for any of the characters when I should.

The season added several new characters so that probably didn’t help, but the story is also somewhat unbelievable. For a final season, there should’ve been more than just a run-of-the-mill story that could’ve been found anywhere else. The finale could change my opinion, but I haven’t loved the season so far and I still understand why many viewers didn’t love the second season.

The episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Guilt can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here.
