As the episode begins, Eliza (Amelia Bullmore) and William (Peter Davison) speak about Ann and Anne’s relationship. Eliza speaks about Anne’s past. William tells her not to mess with Anne. After all, she could run rings around her. Meanwhile, Aunt Ann Walker (Stephanie Cole) is confident that Anne will have Ann (Sophie Rundle) in Paris before they know it. During this time, Ann and Anne (Suranne Jones) have a little x-rated fun. Next, Anne speaks with the doctor. He is convinced that Anne is the best thing to ever happen to Ann.

He encourages her to take Ann on a trip. Next, Anne speaks with William about the boy’s accident. Anne urges him to tell her what he saw. She believes it was Christopher Rawson. William refuses to say because his brothers both work for the Rawson brothers. Samuel Washington (Joe Armstrong) checks on Thomas Sowden (Tom Lewis) at work. Thomas admits that there has been no sign of his father. Anne and Ann tell Aunt Ann about their desire to travel. Aunt Ann is worried that everyone else will make up rumors about their trip.

Aunt Ann tells Ann about a letter. Mrs. Ainsworth was involved in an accident. She has passed away. Anne attempts to comfort her. Marian (Gemma Whelan) learns that her sister knows about Mr. Abbott. Eugenie (Albane Courtois) loses her baby. Thomas’s mother is worried about her husband. Thomas is not. He doesn’t care in the least. Elizabeth (Rosie Cavaliero) tells Eugenie how she got stuck in her current job. He broke her leg and Anne left her behind. Anne learns that her lover is terrified by death. In the morning, Anne wonders if she and Ann should visit Mr. And Mrs. Priestley. Anne wants to carry on like normal and pretend they have nothing to hide.

They visit the couple a short time later. They pretend everything is just fine. Later, Jeremiah Rawson (Shaun Dooley) visits Anne again. Anne asks him about the rig that his brother sent back not too long ago. They also discuss possible prices for the upper level of the mine. Next, Marian and Anne travel together. They speak about Mr. Abbott. Marian is fine with Ann moving in. Anne is not happy with her sister marrying Mr. Abbot. They separate and Anne travels to the mine alone. She rides deep inside of the mine. She learns that it would cost roughly 2,000 pounds for a drill.

Anne tells her advisor that she wants the Rawsons to know that she knows they have been stealing her coal. She is warned that Christopher (Vincent Franklin) will play dirty. Anne is convinced he had something to do with the accident that caused the boy to lose his leg. Anne receives a letter. She rushes over to Ann’s place right away. Ann explains that she received a letter from Mr. Ainsworth. She is convinced that he is going to propose to her at some point. She confesses that she doesn’t want to marry him. However, she might just have to. Later, she tells Anne that Mrs. Ainsworth was 15 years older than her husband.

In the morning, Anne tells her that she’ll need to make a decision one way or another. If she chooses Mr. Ainsworth, their relationship will have to end. They cannot be friends. Anne tries to accept what could happen. Aunt Ann asks Christopher about him letting Anne run rings around him. He denies it and nearly admits that they’ve been stealing her coal. Anne works with her men in the morning. She sits and speaks with John Booth (Thomas Howes). He tells her about Eugenie’s pregnancy. Thomas and the family get a letter from Anne. She has agreed to let Thomas take over the residence. Anne discusses the mine with Jeremy. He tells her it is a nasty business.

She gets a letter from Ann. It tells her to reach into the purse and pick out one of the papers. An answer is written on them. Anne should follow the answer. She picks out no. Anne goes to her and complains. She learns that Ann was taken advantage of by Mr. Ainsworth. That is why he expects her to marry him. Anne tells her that she won’t have to worry about him anymore. She hasn’t decided what she wants to do with him yet.

 

Gentleman Jack Review

I felt this episode of Gentleman Jack was a step down in quality. The other three were thrilling. This one just felt a little dull and drawn out. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. I did like some of the episode though. There are still plenty of interesting storylines that I am eager to follow. The episode scores a 7 out of 10.
