FROM Season 2 Episode 10 Recap

Once Upon A Time – The episode opens with Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) assessing Julie Matthew (Hannah Cheramy) after last night’s seizure-like attack. Victor (Scott McCord) and Tian Chen Liu (Elizabeth Moy) took Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) to the diner to keep him away from the hysteria. Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) and Jade (David Alpay) feel helpless about Julie’s condition. They come up with a plan before Boyd rushes off to speak with Sara Myers (Avery Konrad).

Donna (Elizabeth Saunders), Dale (Cliff Saunders), and Elgin (Nathan D Simmons) search for Randall (AJ Simmons) near the RV site. Donna says although Randall is a jerk, she isn’t willing to discard him. He finds Randall splayed out on the ground. As she checks for a pulse, he asks where are the dead creatures. She suggests the “silver bullet” theory was a bust. Realizing Randall is still alive, she orders Elgin and Dale to get him to the van. When Dale grabs his shoulder, Randall opens his eyes and screams. At the same time, Julie and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) scream. It is determined all three have glassy eyes.

In The Woods – Boyd, Kenny (Ricky He), and Sara are walking to the ancient castle-like ruins. She asks how what they are doing will help. Boyd tells her the Little Boy in White (Vox Smith) led them to the tree that transported him to the well where it all started. After claiming to have dreamed of Boy in White, Elgin says there must be a connection. She tells them that the Boy in White didn’t appear to be a real boy. Boyd tells Sara that it is her opportunity to repair her reputation in town. He tries to get a picture of what the castle looked like before. She admits to hearing “it” before pointing out the location. She frantically searches for a box that is invisible to Kenny nor Boyd. As her nose bleeds, she says they are screaming.

Clutching her ears, Sara recites the nursery rhyme. She warns “it” needs all of them. As Boyd and Kenny lead her away from the ruins, she claims “it” is laughing at Boyd for giving it freedom. She warns that it wants to punish them. He asks how to stop “it.” She tells him that Julie and Mari are dying. She says the only way to reverse the situation is to stop the music.

Colony House – Tillie (Deborah Grover) leads a prayer group. Donna orders Matthias (Matthias Fenez) to store them in the shed.

Liu’s Residence – Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) tells Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) the last time Victor saw his mother, Miranda (Sarah Booth), she was headed to a tower to save the children. She suggests it is connected to her dreams and hallucinations. He reminds her of how his tower theory nearly killed him. He says don’t forget Miranda’s disappearance. She tells him that she isn’t going to sit around and do anything. Ethan, Liu, and Victor return with food. Tabitha asks Victor if he knows the direction to the tower. He claims to only know the way to the “bottle tree.” Going through the collection of sketches, he pulls out a depiction of the “bottle tree.”

In The Woods – Boyd tells Kenny and Sara that they should return to town. Kenny stresses the importance of destroying the music box first. Boyd asks how before assuring him that he knows the risks. They eventually agree it is important to make everyone feel safer.

Colony Home – Ellis Stevens (Corteon Moore) apologizes to Reggie (Zach Faye) for restraining him last night. Reggie says Paula (Annika Borg) was his rock. Ellis assures him what happened to Paula was not his fault. Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) suggests getting married today, instead of tomorrow which isn’t guaranteed.

Town Bar – Jade works on finding the best starting point when Tom (Reid Price) approaches. After a bit of back and forth, he explains his hypothesis. Tom suggests returning to the area inside the tunnel where Tabitha and Victor saw the symbol. A brief disagreement leads to laughter. Tom says the basis of moral decisions is what you think is the right thing to do, not the expected outcome.

The Shed – Matthias stores the weapons when Reggie joins him. During idle talk, Reggie slashes his throat. He grabs a gun before emerging from the shed.

In The Woods Tunnel Entrance – Tying one end of the rope to a tree, Jade enters the underground tunnel when he loses his footing. He slides down an embankment, coming to a stop at the bottom. Tackling a dying light, he has puppet hallucinations.

Town Church – Boyd confronts a mythical figure about toying with his creations. If Father Khatri (Shaun Majumder) was there, he would argue it is God’s work. As a nonbeliever of God, he rebukes Father Khatri for wasting his last breath on prayer. He takes his frustration out on a metal mailbox when Donna reminds him of it is a federal offense to tamper with mail.

Colony Home – Kristi is concerned about Mari’s deteriorating condition. Mari inspired her to believe there was something for them to do. Kenny says his father, bing-Qian Liu (Simon Sinn) said, “It’s hard to see a sweater when you’re only just a thread.” He admits to only realizing what it means.

Town Church – Boyd informs Donna of Sara’s claim that Mari, Julie, and Randall are dying. He adds after they die, there will be no bottling it up. Frustrated, he complains about his duty to destroy an invisible music box. She tells him that he has done a lot for the people. She says Ellis and Fatima are enjoying what time they have together by getting married.

Tunnel – Jade’s hallucinations are similar to that of Tabitha with children. Surrounded by children chanting “Anghkooey,” he discovers the symbol which turns out to be a hallucination.

In The Woods – Victor escorts Tabitha to the “bottle tree” that seems to have disappeared. Bottles clinking together draws him to the location. He claims to have found his mother there. Walking to the other side, they find the opening. He says each “Faraway Tree” leads to a unique location while the “Bottle Tree” goes to the tower. Stepping into a “Faraway Tree,” she finds herself in the forest leading to the tower entrance.

Colony House – Boyd walks Fatima down the aisle. Choosing to write their own vows, Fatima cites her father’s adage, “Life is a journey through the unknown and though your mind and eyes may sometimes deceive you, your heart will never lie.” She pours her heart out to Ellis. He expresses how he felt about her the moment he saw her. Boyd professes to love them and wishes them the best of everything.

In The Woods – Exiting with the torch in his hand, Boyd encounters Reggie who loads a slug into his rifle. After cocking the rifle, he aims it at Boyd. He blames him for Paula’s death. Boyd assures him that he had nothing to do with her death when Reggie fires a shot into his left shoulder. When Boyd collapses on the ground, Reggie loads another cartridge into the chamber. Before he can pull the trigger, Boyd shoots him several times. He lights his torch at the location where he encountered Martin (Robert Verlaque). He finds the music box, along with Mari, Randall, and Julie tethered to a wall.

Preparing to destroy the music box, Abby Stevens (Lisa Ryder) pleads with him to not do it. The shackled prisoners burst to life with “death roars.” Abby tries to scheme him into not destroying the music box. She says “it” feeds on the hope that makes people eager to suffer. The forest feeds on hope, not fear. As he destroys the music box, the three hostages come through.

Boyd is standing in the center of the castle ruins when a German Sheppard flees in the opposite direction.

In The Tower – Tabitha ascends a spiral staircase when she hears “Anghkooey” chants. At the top, the Boy in White shoves her out of the tower. She comes through in a hospital to an incessant beeping noise. The nurse (Anthony L. Jackson) retrieves Dr. Brody (Sharleen Kalayil). She discovers a pair of hikers found her along a trail in the woods three days ago. She is taken aback to see a bustling city below the window as the episode ends.

 

From Review

There is no doubt, the finale could have been more fulfilling finale. Some scenes were fluff, adding nothing to the story. All-in-all, it was decent. The characters that died won’t be missed because their roles were minute. It is questionable how Tabitha ended up on a trail where she was found by hikers. The circumstance is intriguing, nonetheless. There is enough for a third season which MGM+ is yet to announce. It will probably depend on viewership.

With the music box destroyed, what will be the next ploy, if there is one? It is doubtful, the show will take on two settings – the city and the town – as the budget is obviously limited.

It was disappointing Jade was left stranded in the tunnel. A third season will likely pick up there or in the city, depending on whether or not, Tabitha is really in St. Anthony’s Hospital.
