For Her Sins Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

episode 3 for her sins eliza

As this episode of For Her Sins begins, Laura (Jo Joyner) talks about Eliza (Romi Hyland-Rylands) having a bad nightmare one night. When Laura checked on her, Eliza just backed away from her and started screaming “not you”. It was like Eliza could see right through Laura. Flashbacks show a possible drowning and Liam watching Laura at the club. In the middle of the night, Laura hears the alarm going off. She finds Eliza staring out the door and saying “to find him”. Eliza says the boy is still in the water. Laura comforts Eliza when she begins crying. Emily (Rachel Shenton) makes a sandwich that is laced with drugs.

When her phone rings, she says that they should stop calling her. Laura calls Rob (Duncan Pow) and leaves a message asking him to call her. She yells for Eliza to get her shoes on. Emily puts the sandwich in a box with Eliza’s name on it. Rachel (Jade-Marie Joseph) comes over and frightens Eliza. She explains that the door was open. Laura thanks her for doing this and says she is hoping to have a nanny sorted by the end of the week. Laura asks if she ever had a blackout before telling her about the weird night out she had with Emily. They agree to talk about everything over a glass of wine later. When Rachel asks when Rob is getting home, Laura says not for a while.

Laura’s mom Maggie (Ann Mitchell) catches up with her at work. Maggie introduces Laura to her new paralegal named Stef (Rebecca Yeo). Laura asks Stef to do a background check on Emily Furness. Emily takes the sandwich to Eliza’s school so it can be given to her. Laura calls about the list of nannies and the reference check for Emily Furness. While she waits for an answer, she sees Emily walking down the hallway. Laura decides to look for her but ends up running into Tom (Ansu Kabia). Laura asks if anyone else was with them on the night out. Tom isn’t sure about that, but he knows that they drank way too much. During the employee meeting, Tom tells everyone that Laura is back.

When they begin discussing strategy, Laura gets a call from Eliza’s school. She ignores it and offers to take a look at the case with fresh eyes. After the meeting, Laura listens to the message from the school and learns that Eliza is sick. Stef tries to give her the documents, but Laura has to rush to the school. Once she reaches the school, Laura is told that Eliza was picked up by her emergency contact, Emily. She rushes home and finds Eliza on the couch. Emily tells her that she tried to call her. They agree to talk in private. Laura approaches her and asks who she is because she just met Flo’s mom named Isla. Laura accuses her of pretending to be Flo’s mom, but Emily insists she never did that.

Laura says they bonded over kids and she doesn’t have any. Emily insists she can appreciate what it means to be a mother even though she doesn’t have any children. Laura reminds her that she never asked her to pick up Eliza. Emily says not everyone is lucky enough to have children. That is why she picked a job that allowed her to care for other people’s kids. Stef calls Laura to say something came back on the DBS check on Emily Furness. It flagged several misdemeanors. There are two parking tickets in arrears and a tow. Other than that, it seems Emily is clean. Emily asks if she ran a background check on her. Laura apologizes and says she really thought she said she was Flo’s mom.

Emily thought they were friends. She dropped everything to pick up her sick child and she is suddenly the guilty party. Laura wants to talk things through. Eliza complains that her stomach her. Later, Emily answers the door when Rachel returns with Elliot. Rachel thought they could drink wine like initially planned, but Emily wants to get rid of her. Rachel says she’ll come by at the same time tomorrow. Emily insists there is no need because it is sorted out now. Once Laura comes down, Emily asks her if Rachel is always short. She claims Rachel was somewhat rude. Laura thanks Emily for the wine. Emily doesn’t want to open it because she really isn’t in the mood right now. She leaves moments later.

Laura dreams about the night with Tom and seeing Liam watching them. Emily calls her from outside and asks if they can talk. She goes inside and apologizes to Laura. She admits she was just worried that their friendship wouldn’t last if Laura knew she was just a nanny. Laura questions whether anyone else was at the motel that night. Emily tells her to let it go and stop torturing herself like this. Laura says she can’t because she feels like she is mad. Emily says she can handle the kids until Laura finds a nanny. Laura thanks her for being amazing before they hug. Emily takes care of the kids in the morning as Laura prepares to leave for work. Later, Emily gets the mail which includes a letter about an upcoming visit with Social Services.

She calls Liam to say she believes Laura will talk. When Laura returns, Rob speaks to the kids over the phone. Laura says it is a shame he won’t be there for the behavioral meeting, but Rob says he was at the last one. He believes it is best for him to stay when his mom when he gets back. Emily holds the phone so Eliza can talk to her daddy. Laura listens from nearby as Emily talks to Eliza before bedtime. After Laura walks away, they start talking about tomorrow’s meeting. Emily urges her to tell the truth about everything including mommy shouting. Before the social worker arrives, Liam Stevens shows up and tells Laura that he is with the Daily Press. He calls her Catherine and asks if she would chat with him.

Laura shuts the door on him. Emily asks her who Catherine is. After that, Adam arrives to speak to Eliza. Laura tells Adam that Rob is away on business a lot. Laura struggles to concentrate because she keeps thinking about Liam. Eliza mentions Emily. Laura ends up getting frustrated with her daughter and yells at her. Adam suggests they reschedule when Rob is back. Laura goes back to the motel to see if they’ll let her look at the CCTV footage from that night. When she looks at the video, she notices Liam following her around that night. Laura goes home and tries to call Maggie Gibson. She leaves a message asking Maggie to call her. Emily checks on her seconds later. Laura tells her she is going to head up early.

Laura has another dream about the drowning. Later, Laura tells her mom about the man from the motel. He called her Catherine and said he was from the Daily Press. Maggie insists it’ll be okay. It was a terrible accident and she was never there. When Rob gets home, he finds Emily half-naked. Emily and Eliza surprise him with a cake. Rob thought Laura would be there. Emily insists she mentioned it a couple of times. She claims Laura is just burned out before asking how Rob is doing. Rob says he is devastated although he shouldn’t be dumping this on her. Laura receives a note calling her Catherine saying the truth always comes out in the end. She immediately takes it to her mother and questions whether it is really going to be okay.

Maggie says she is going to send her home and she shouldn’t answer the door to anyone. At home, Laura asks Rob why he didn’t tell her he was coming home. Rob tries to find out what is going on with her. He says she is scaring the kids so he is going to take them to his mom’s place. Once they leave, Laura tells Emily that she wanted to do something else. Emily begins recording their conversation without Laura’s knowledge. She asks who Catherine is. Laura reveals that she is Catherine and her mom changed their names when she was a kid. She says you go on holiday and make friends when it is really tense. She was one of those. She had it rough at home. They used to run off and pretend to be somewhere else.

There was a little boat close to where they were staying and they’d talk about taking it. There was a terrible accident. Laura goes on to say there was an argument and her friend’s brother drowned. Laura ran back to her mom and told her. Her mom told her to say she was never there. Laura confesses that she never told anyone including Rob. She doesn’t know what happened to the friend. Emily stands over Laura while she sleeps and tells her that she forgot the part about killing her brother.

For Her Sins Review

The third episode of For Her Sins provided the biggest revelations so far. The reveals were somewhat effective although they were pretty predictable and viewers likely already guessed these things much earlier in the series. Viewers will have to suspend reality to enjoy the series because no one would behave this way.

It is unimaginable that Laura and others would react exactly how Emily expected them to. Furthermore, the series isn’t all that original since there are so many similar stories out there. The cast is trying its best with the thin, unoriginal script so it’d probably be unfair to be overly harsh.

Still, For Her Sins isn’t remarkable in any possible way. Nevertheless, it is watchable if viewers have nothing else going on and they’re willing to cringe through many scenes. This episode scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of For Her Sins can be found on Reel Mockery here.
