At the beginning of the episode, we witness a car crash. Little Cassie (Elena Murphy) gets out of the vehicle and calls for her mommy and daddy. Little Lexie (Iseult Murphy) stumbles out of the woods and tells Cassie that her parents are dead. Lexie tells Cassie her name and that she has her now. Then, we jump over to Dublin in 2003. Cassie (Sarah Greene) visits Frank Mackey (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) and speaks to him about going undercover. Cassie agrees to go undercover to help bring down Vincent Johnstone (Paul Roe). She tells Frank that she intends to use Lexie as her new identity. In exchange for her work, Cassie wants to be placed on murder once the job is completed.

Meanwhile, O’Neill (Moe Dunford), Dr. Cooper (Ned Dennehy), and the others inspect Lexie’s body. Cooper confirms that she is dead but Frank has other ideas. He suggests that they should pretend Lexie is fighting for her life so they can interrogate those close to her. Cooper relents and agrees to go along with Frank’s plan. Cassie steps aside and receives a call from Rob Reilly (Killian Scott). She tells him about the new murder but encourages him to stay on the Cathal Mills (Barry O’Connor) lead. Frank tells O’Neill to speak with her friends and lie to them about Lexie’s death. O’Neill doesn’t want to do that but Cassie and Frank give him little choice.

Rob marches into the boardroom and tells Mills that he is there to speak with him about Katy’s murder. Mills denies everything. He says that he lives in Berlin but conducts business here in the city. Mills is asked about the 85 disappearance and being at the cinema at the time. After spotting exercise equipment, Rob asks Cathal if he has a tracksuit. Then, Rob begins asking about his laptop. Cathal makes a comment about the pornography that can be found on his computer. The comment about shaved women leads Rob to suspect he might have child porn on his computer. Rob encourages Cathal to stay in the country before leaving.

When Rob steps outside, he tells Phelan (Ian Kenny) to keep an eye on Cathal and let him know where Cathal goes. Back at the station, Detective Quigley (Eugene O’Hare) entertains Damien (Jonny Holden). Cooper works on Lexie’s body, while Cassie and Frank go to the prison to meet with Johnstone. Cassie tells Frank that she wants to meet him alone. She sits down with Johnstone and he begins cursing her. This convinces her that he had nothing to do with Lexie’s death. She tells Frank this a few moments later. Qugiley waits while Damien goes through the mugshots. Ultimately, he is not able to identify any of the men. Rob enters moments later to check on their progress.

Rob pulls Quigley outside. He tells him to take Damien out and get his mind off of the pictures. Then, he wants him to show Damien Cathal’s picture first thing. Moments later, O’Kelly (Conleth Hill) tells Rob that Cathal’s lawyer has made a complaint against him. Cooper tells Cassie and the others how Lexie died and that there was no DNA match between Lexie and Cassie. O’Kelly enters seconds later. O’Neill tells everyone that Lexie’s friends want to see her. After a short argument between O’Kelly and Frank, Cooper lets everyone know that Lexie was pregnant at the time of her death. In a flashback, we see a priest visit the house where Cassie is living. She goes back to her room and Lexie begins ripping wallpaper from the wall.

Cassie takes a pregnancy test and confirms that she is not pregnant. Frank visits her a few seconds later and tells her about his new plan. She is going to pretend to be Lexie in the hospital so her friends can visit her. They do just that a few seconds later. Frank speaks with the friends at the hospital. He tries to get information regarding her family but her friends cannot or will not tell him anything. They leave a short time later. After that, Frank tells Cassie about one of Lexie’s friends, Daniel March. When he was 17, he nearly killed a boy. Frank attempts to convince Cassie that she should take over as Lexie and return to her friends but Cassie doesn’t like the idea.

Rob tries to visit Simone but only runs into Jess and Rosalind (Leah McNamara). Jonathan (Peter McDonald) arrives and tells Rob that he doesn’t want him speaking to his daughters without his permission. Rob tells Jonathan that he should think about amending his statement from 1985. Now would be a good time to do that. Next, we watch as Alannah (Ericka Roe) is attacked on the street. Back at home, Rosalind hears her father on the phone. It sounds very important. Quigley lets Rob know that he sent Damien home because he was a mess. He tells Quigley to get Damien back in there tomorrow and show him the picture of Cathal again. In a flashback, Rob remembers one of the boys telling him to go now.

Cassie spends the night with O’Neill until she receives a call about Alannah. He drives her to the hospital. Once there, Alannah threatens to get Rob and Cassie in trouble for treating her like crap during the previous interview. Cassie promises that she’ll try to get Alannah a safe place to stay. O’Neill does not like what he hears. He is mad that Cassie let an Englishman talk down to the Irish woman. They get into a fight and Cassie is told to get a cab. She tells O’Neill that she knows Johnstone had nothing to do with the murder because she had a sexual relationship with him for a year as his girlfriend. She uses that piece of information to upset O’Neill. Cassie sees a flashback of herself blaming the destroyed room on Lexie.

Meanwhile, she waits in the hospital with Alannah. Rob arrives moments later and learns about the damage. The baby is okay and they agree that they’ll have her relocated. Cassie tells Rob that she told Sam about her relationship with Johnstone. She confesses that she did it to shock him and because she was angry. Rob gets a call from Phelan letting him know that Cathal in on the road but he is not going home. Phelan lets Rob and Cassie catch up with Cathal. They find out that he is heading toward Knocknaree. Cathal stops his vehicle and meets up with Jonathan. Cathal asks about Shane but Jonathan hasn’t seen him. They believe Shane is the one responsible for painting the billboards. They get into a fight and Jonathan gets the better of Cathal.

Jonathan asks him if he really thought they would be able to live normal lives and that there would never be a reckoning. Cathal threatens to kill Shane before leaving. Rob and Cassie have been watching everything. Rob decides that they need to go after Cassie. She doesn’t want to do anything about Sam. Their vehicle hits something on the road. We jump back in time and witness the wreck that took the lives of Cassie’s family. Cassie walks from the car with Lexie. Rob finds out that they’ve hit a fox or something. Cassie breaks down so Rob comforts her before they share a kiss. Cassie pulls away but goes back in for another one. They end up sleeping together. Rob leaves her in bed in the morning.

When she arrives at work, Quigley tells her that he is on hotline duty since Damien cried off. She learns that Rob is downstairs doing something weird to a bag of rubbish. Quigley listens to the call encouraging the detectives to speak with Adam. Cassie checks on Rob. He tells her that he liked crying girls and that she can blame it on Lexie. Cassie gets angry and smacks him around a bit before storming off. Cassie runs into Sam in the hallway but doesn’t say anything to him. In the flashback, Cassie blames Lexie. She is told that there is no Lexie. She confesses that she knows there is no Lexie. Cassie goes to Frank and tells him that she’ll do it before the episode ends.

 

Dublin Murders Review

I like Dublin Murders but it is getting too far fetched at this point. I hope things come together and make sense at the end. However, I am not very hopeful right now. This episode focused too much on Cassie and I didn’t enjoy it as much. I feel like I have to bend reality to accept that Cassie has a twin out there who got stabbed in the same spot she did. It doesn’t feel authentic.

There is too much going on too. This makes it difficult to follow and much of the episode is loaded down with stuff that doesn’t matter. How is Lexie’s death connected to Katy’s? Is there a connection? Will we ever find out? I am going to stick with the show but I am concerned that there isn’t going to be a reward at the end of the rainbow.
