At the beginning of the episode, June (Sally Lindsay) makes up an excuse about having Kirk’s phone. Kirk (Paul Higgins) accepts the story and doesn’t ask anything else about it. June takes Elisabeth (Elizabeth Counsell) back to bed. After that, June and Laura (Samantha Power) speak in the kitchen while Kirk walks through. Laura talks about some stuff she did years ago. After that, Des (Daniel Ryan) tells June that he would like to break into Kirk’s home office. It is the only room in the house that is locked. He lays out his theory and suggests that Xanadu is the name that links everything together. That is the name Kirk uses for a lot of his companies.

Des believes that he’ll get what he needs to bring Kirk down if June can find information about Xanadu Construction Supplies. They go back and forth before June leaves in a hurry. Back at home, June finds out that Hana (Taj Atwal) has started working. June doesn’t want her daughter working but Hana isn’t willing to stop. June meets up with Des and begins practicing to break into locks. She believes it is too risky so Des suggests stealing Wiley’s keys. Before too long, June finds herself in the Wiley house breaking into his office. She gets inside and snaps pictures of paperwork pertaining to Xanadu Construction Supplies.

Laura enters and nearly catches June. June uses the phone to distract Laura. While Laura is distracted, June escapes. June takes the paperwork to Des and asks how this stuff is going to get her money back. He comes up with the idea of putting a tracking device on Kirk’s vehicle. June has a dementia patient tracker and it seems that she is willing to use that to track Kirk’s car. She says that this is going to be the last favor she does for Des. When June returns to work, she makes an excuse to get into Kirk’s vehicle. She goes outside and hides the tracking device in the back under one of the floor mats. Des begins following the tracking device a short time later.

During this time, Elisabeth begins talking about her son’s childhood problem of urinating the bed. She admits that she hung up the sheets to embarrass him in hopes that it would stop him. Des follows Kirk into a building. Kirk believes he is there for a photograph so he ends up taking a picture with Des. Then, he follows him to a Maginko building. Meanwhile, Lizzie (Katie Redford) gets into an argument with her parents about the wedding. June tells Kirk that you have to let your kids make their own mistakes. When June returns home, she tells her daughter that she promised to help with money.

They work together to get the baby stroller assembled. After that, June speaks with Lizzie about her wedding plans. June agrees to help Lizzie with her wedding plans. Lizzie says that June can use her mom’s cards for everything but June doesn’t feel comfortable with that. When Lizzie steps away to get the list, June looks at the cards and finds one for Lynton’s Department Store. She goes to that store and buys a bracelet and a stroller for her daughter. Back at work, the lights go off at the Wiley home. Then, the family gets together to play never have I ever. During the game, Kirk uses questions that make it seem like he doesn’t fully trust June.

Before the questions can get too personal, the lights come on. The following day, Lizzie tells June that her mother believes she is pregnant. After all, she thinks she used her store card to buy the stroller. June is forced to check on Elisabeth when she begins yelling. Elisabeth asks what is happening to her. June says that they’ll talk about it over a cup of tea. Meanwhile, Des continues searching for evidence. He finds land that has been acquired by Maginko. Kirk meets with James the man who scammed June. Before he leaves, June listens to his voice and immediately recognizes him as the scammer. She calls Des and tells him that they need to follow them right now.

While they track down the vehicle, James and Kirk hold a meeting with new scammers. Des and June sneak into the building and listen to the scammers perfect their skills. Kirk becomes suspicious and checks outside but he doesn’t catch Des. When June returns to work, she is confronted by Kirk. He accuses her of stealing from his family. Instead of getting her into trouble, Kirk wants her to do a favor for him. While Des researches Xanadu Construction Supplies, June is sent out with James and another man. She tries to use her phone but the other man, Chris (Graeme Hawley), grabs it and throws it out of the window.

Then, they arrive at a parking lot and June is instructed to take the bag to someone. When she does, a man grabs her breasts. Once June returns to the car, James spots a young man they know. He bashes him since he believes Kirk will appreciate it. During this time, Des researches Maginko and Simon Zima. He searches for Zima on the Dark Web and finds a disturbing video about the Moldovian Interference. The following day, Kirk tells June that she has been a massive help. He says that he’ll have to make a decision about how they move forward if he can’t trust her. A few moments later, Des calls Kirk and threatens him.

Des demands 572 grand. In return, Kirk threatens Des’s children. Des calls the house and speaks with June. He tells her that he doesn’t turn scammers into the authorities. Instead, he blackmails them. He tells her that she cannot leave or Kirk will know that she is involved. Kirk walks by as Des threatens that he will kill them.

 

Cold Call Review

Cold Call has been spectacular so far. At times, I feel that the show is more intense than many detective and spy dramas. June is digging herself deeper and deeper into a hole that she may not be able to climb out of. The show is very realistic and original. I haven’t seen anything else like it. I’ve watched somewhat similar shows like this including Cleaning Up. That wasn’t nearly as good as Cold Call. The twist at the end wasn’t unexpected though. Des isn’t a good guy after all. He is filling his pockets by blackmailing the scammers. I am not saying this is a bad thing but he isn’t out to put crooks behind bars.

During this episode, June said numerous times that she wants her money back. If that is her goal, she may not care about getting justice. Either way, I can’t wait to see where things are going to go from here. The episode was excellent. It scores an 8 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Cold Call right now!
