Class Of 07 Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

Soul-Crushing-Cycle – As the fourth episode of Class Of ’07 begins, Zoe (Emily Brown) speaks on the radio about how they’re getting stuff done. She mentions that Saskia Vanderbeek (Caitlin Stasey) is their maid of honor. Saskia is busy forcing the girls to ride stationary bikes so they can recharge the batteries. Zoe admits they’ve kind of never looked better thanks to Saskia. Their hair has become their last piece of normality and they’re not going to let it go. Saskia continues riding even after everyone else has quit. Once the battery is charged, she takes it to Phoebe (Steph Tisdell) who lights a cigarette. That triggers something for Saskia. Phoebe asks her if Sandy is still dead. Saskia hopes not.

Phoebe thinks she is dead after 44 days and counting. The day, Laura (Rose Flanagan) falls off her bike and everyone thinks she is dead, but she turns out to be fine. Saskia tells them to get back on their bikes. She warns them they’ll be stuck there forever if they don’t send out a radio signal every day. Genevieve (Claire Lovering) gets upset and questions whether it is worth it. She insists that radio signals, protein, and rest should be their priorities, but Saskia says having neat hair sets a standard. Saskia tells her that she doesn’t hate women. She just hates her. Saskia doesn’t want to see a single strand of hair out of place when she sees her next. Later, Saskia talks about how she knows she should’ve felt awful when Laura collapsed.

She also hears his voice telling her that she made the right call. Saskia has heard him like that for years. She argues that Ryan would be so proud of her. Saskia doesn’t understand how the person who messed her up so badly can also be the voice of encouragement that she needs to go on. When Teresa (Sana’a Shaik) enters, Saskia rushes to hide what she is doing. Teresa just wants to check on her since she went pretty hard on Genevieve earlier. She thinks Genevieve might be right because they’ve been riding really hard and they’re not eating enough to sustain it. Saskia reminds her that she is in charge of the food before questioning where it is. Teresa hopes she knows she can talk to her about anything, but Saskia says she already did.

While cycling again, Zoe asks Renee (Emma Horn) if she can find out what Amelia (Megan Smart) is doing. Amelia tells them it is none of their business, but Zoe says otherwise since she is the SRC rep. Megan (Chi Nguyen) and Tegan (Bernie Van Tiel) visit Phoebe to see if they can get any drugs. Phoebe says she only has Prolexoft or the contraceptive pill. Amelia tries to convince them not to take the antidepressants. Megan urges her to get over herself and make up with Zoe so she doesn’t need antidepressants. Amelia manages to convince Megan to leave the pills, but Phoebe tells her it is three batteries a box now. Amelia is forced to leave empty-handed. Zoe joins Teresa who has cuts on her face because she lost a fight with a possum on the roof.

They fish together and agree that they’re going to get rescued. After Teresa says she is worried about Saskia, Zoe tells her that the mop is her therapist. Teresa thinks Genevieve is right about Saskia’s priorities being all out of whack. Zoe tries to find out what Amelia is charging all the batteries for. Teresa catches a fish. They show it to the others during dinner. Genevieve arrives with her hair messed up and immediately taunts Saskia who asks Teresa to serve Genevieve the eyeballs. Then, Saskia tells Genevieve to fix her hair or eat the eyeballs. Genevieve eats them but gets choked on the second one. Renee has to help her. Later, Saskia finds Amelia still working on the bike so she unplugs the battery and stops her.

Saskia charges another battery before taking it to Phoebe who lights another cigarette. Phoebe tells her that Lucinda hated smoking too. She was a pretty young thing who used to intern at her workplace. Lucinda graduated from Ridge Heights three years ago. Phoebe reveals she was so taken in by Garrity and even got his name tattooed on her rib cage. They only lasted six months after she graduated before the wife found out. Phoebe admits she enjoys making the coolest girl in school realize she is not that special. Saskia tells her therapist that Ryan picked her up from schoolies and he was done with her three weeks later. Despite working on this for years, she is jealous now.

The next day, Saskia sees that Genevieve isn’t going to cycle anymore. She says she isn’t riding until the hair stuff ends. Saskia tells her that they don’t need her. She can choose to do nothing and the class will be fine. If Genevieve doesn’t ride, she won’t get batteries, food, bunk, or hot water. Saskia warns her to go to a long-drop right now or no one will get their batteries tonight. Amelia pleads with Genevieve to just ride because the rest of them are counting on the batteries. Genevieve tells them to come find her in the toilets when they’re done being cowards. After Genevieve leaves, the others tell Saskia that she has a point. Saskia begins unplugging batteries and reminding them that she built all of this.

Later, Zoe tells Teresa that they need to get out of there before Saskia goes full Jonestown. She shows her the boat she made. Zoe begins moving the basketball goal before Teresa tells her about Amelia being on antidepressants. Zoe drops the basketball goal causing it to land on Teresa’s toe. Renee, Saskia, and the others check it out. Saskia says it is a bruised nail, but it will require surgery. Teresa urges Zoe to make up with Amelia before she takes someone’s eye or something. She goes on to say Zoe just can’t expect to replace her. Saskia puts Phoebe and Renee in charge of fixing the toe. She tells them to use whatever they muse to make it as painless as possible. Saskia instructs Renee to just take it off.

In a flashback, Ryan tells a young Saskia (Shay Cohen) that she is different from the other girls because she is mature. He is going to have to mark her down on her essay since he can’t have people thinking he is playing favorites even if she is. Amelia finally gets three batteries, but Phoebe says she’ll need two more because of inflation. Amelia says she needs those pills because they’re the only thing stopping her from hurling herself into the sinkhole. Phoebe reminds her that everyone is depressed before closing the shop. Moments later, Renee cuts Teresa’s toe off. Phoebe thought they were only taking the nail off. As the toe begins spraying blood, Renee confesses to lying about being a doctor.

Phoebe slaps her and tells her to cauterize the wound. Once they finish, they wake up Teresa to tell her the surgery went well. They give Teresa her toe and flee. Saskia insists they misunderstood because she was only supposed to take the nail. As Teresa freaks out, Saskia admits she might not be coping. All this bad stuff that happened to her there is coming back. Teresa curses her and tells her to go talk to her therapist. Saskia tells her dinner is due in an hour and the women are expecting fish. Renee asks Phoebe why she looked out after her. Phoebe says she worked her butt off to get into this school and the women will look down on them unless they’re the daughter of some CEO. She says she needs to look the part. Saskia comes in and breaks the computer before putting the toe in Renee’s mouth.

Phoebe tells her she better calm down unless she is there to deliver batteries. Saskia says she is done before going to a private place to cry. Zoe approaches Amelia to ask how many more batteries she needs. Renee and Phoebe approach Teresa with Sandy’s purse. Then, they take the purse to Genevieve.

Class Of ’07 Review

The fourth episode of Class of ’07 was interesting since it showed how the women at Ridge Heights managed to recharge batteries. It also delved deeper into Saskia’s issues and what happened when she attended the school. Zoe is also trying to find a way to mend her relationship with Amelia. The series tries to play both sides by being overly silly half of the time and overly serious the other half.

Generally, I prefer the serious portion of the show more than the silly scenes because I don’t find them all that humorous. Again, some viewers may enjoy this style of humor but it obviously isn’t for everyone. It is more crude, disgusting humor that is a bit too in-your-face for me. It is slightly difficult to overlook the humor sometimes because those scenes consume a good portion of each episode, especially this one.

The character relationships and the power dynamic of the group are satisfying enough though. At the very least, it is impossible to know what is going to come next. The episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Class Of ’07 are available on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site here.
