Margaux tells her that she never sees anyone. She recommends Lea who seems to have the hots for her. Lea (Shy’m) calls Camille to tell her to meet them at the docks because they’re heading to Ile Sainte-Marguerite about a dead body. On her way there, Camille calls Genevieve Martial (Ruth Vega Fernandez) to ask her to arrange a meeting with her father. Genevieve will do what she can. Harry tries to get to the body only to be stopped by a security guard. Ramzy Chabat (Sammy Lechea) nearly gets sick on the boat ride out to the body. The monks live on the neighboring island so they wonder what he was doing after hours.

Once they reach land, Camille says she wants to make sure no one leaves. Ramzy checks the body and says it is just like The Name of the Rose. He says the man’s head smashed on impact and he died sometime last night. He notices several wounds and suggests the man hit the rocks on the way down. Camille wants to know what the monk was doing there after hours. Lea wonders if he worked in the museum. When Camille and Lea check the ledge above, they find at least two sets of footprints. Ramzy finds a lethal wound made by something blunt so the man was dead before he hit the ground. They also found blood traces near the shoreline. Lea tells Camille that there have been a lot of hate crimes against the church lately.

Camille says it looks sloppy like it wasn’t planned. She wants to see the security guards and go over their routines. She also wants to speak to the couple who found the victim’s body. Genevieve visits Philippe (Jean-Hugues Anglade) who learns how the girls are reacting. She asks if anything would change his mind about seeing Camille. Genevieve was hoping life might begin again for them. Philippe says he was tired of all the deceit and lies. He wants her to stop Camille from doing anything stupid although Genevieve isn’t sure she can. Harry meets Father Placid (Eric Savin) and confirms the victim was one of his. Placid explains that the man was a birdwatcher and said he had found a haven there among them. Placid tells him not to expose himself trying to find out what happened.

Harry is asked if he saw Emilie (Ava Griffith). Although he did, he is worried he will put her in harm’s way. Placid argues it’ll get harder the longer he waits. Ramzy begins the autopsy on the victim. Harry looks through the museum. Camille approaches him to see if he has found anything out because Julien Boire is making threats. Harry tells her that the monk was one of Placid’s lost sheep and he had a troubled past. Ramzy sends pictures of the man’s tattoos and they convince Camille that he had a troubled past. Harry and Camille speak to the security guard who saw nothing out of the ordinary. Harry asks if the stuff is real because it looks like it has been knocked off in some Bangkok sweatshop.

The security guard doesn’t tell them anything helpful. Once they walk away, Camille tells Harry he should be focusing on finding a connection between Julien Boire and her father. They talk about the man living in a prison of mystery. Eventually, the museum manager, Pierre Costignan (Nicolas Limery), interrupts and says he has never seen the man in question before. Pierre explains why no civilian should’ve been there. When asked about the Benedictine brothers, he says they sell rosaries They give the Fort Royal a certain medieval panache. As they leave, Camille still wonders what the man was doing there. Harry asks if they found binoculars or a camera with the body. Harry walks past a group and sees Emilie.

Camille searches near the shoreline and finds a rosary. She notices a little girl with a camera so she decides to ask her about it. While she checks the camera, Lea calls and learns that she found something. Once Camille catches up with her, she says the memory card is missing from the camera. At the station, Ramzy says what little CCTV footage they got was useless. There is nothing outside the port or near the pier. The monk is 27-year-old Darius Vignier. He had arrests for petty theft, drug possession, and grand theft auto. They question why he’d join the monks. Camille wants to speak to Father Placid about the priest. Nina LeBlanc (Nancy Tate) approaches Lea to tell her about a possible promotion. Although Lea doesn’t want to go to Paris, she agrees to think about the promotion.

Lea and Camille try to find Madame Vignier. Lea doesn’t tell Camille what Nina wanted. They approach Madame Vignier who says Darius didn’t have any enemies. Then, they meet Placid and tell him they want to visit Darius’ cell room. Camille is surprised to see Harry there. Placid tells them that Darius was raised on the streets of Marseille, but his grandmother helped out from time to time. They never spoke about his criminal past because he was a quiet man. Placid thinks everyone wants to be forgiven. After speaking to Placid, they search Darius’ room. They find evidence of Darius being a birdwatcher. When they find his computer, they need to guess the password.

Camille finds several memory cards. Lea walks with Harry and tries to find out why he is actually there. Father Placid won’t tell Camille anything about him. At the station, they look at the pictures on the memory cards and find pictures of the boat. Camille doesn’t know what they’re doing, but she doubts they’re laying down nets. She visits Andre (Yann Babilee) moments later because she needs his help. Andre doesn’t recognize the boat and says there are no fish in the water. At the station, Camille suggests Darius ran into some of his old pals. Although they were fishermen, they weren’t fishing. Ramzy ran his tattoos through the database and found a match for one belonging to a gang out of Marseille called the Devil’s Spear.

They run a drug operation out of Marseille and Morocco. They agree to check out the waters. Harry begins snooping around. Lea stops Camille to tell her about the promotion in Paris. Camille doesn’t say anything about that and instead wants to check the water near the boat. Eventually, she admits she’d hate to see Lea leave, but she would understand if she took the promotion. Harry finds drugs hidden under a floorboard. The security guard comes back with another man and they end up catching Harry. Camille remembers her dad telling her about smugglers using anchored buoys and attaching sealed bags to them. Camille orders them to head to the shore while Harry tries to convince the men to let him go.

Lea and Camille prepare to sweep the property. They run into the security guard. Lea stays with him while Camille goes inside to save Harry. Once Lea takes down the security guard, she warns him that he is going to get prison time. Harry owes Camille so he helps her capture the man with the gun. Camille tells Bernardo that prison is going to hurt. Lea tells her that the coast guard found the boat and it was stolen out of Cassis. It was a drug ring consisting of men pretending to be fishermen. They paid someone to deactivate some of the CCTV cameras so they could work without being spotted. Darius paid a heavy price. Later that night, Margaux goes out for a drink and a man sitting nearby pays for her.

Cannes Confidential Review

The third episode of Cannes Confidential was similar to the first two with unbelievable scenes, a limited investigation, and gorgeous scenery. This series is going to get a lot of hate and a lot of it will be justified. After all, the fight scenes are completely unrealistic and the same can be said about many aspects of the story.

The investigation scenes are just too thin. Camille and Lea really never find anything out on their own. Instead, Harry tends to stumble into situations that help them uncover the truth. This makes it feel too easy and a little lackluster at the end of each episode.

On the other hand, the series is watchable when expectations are reasonable. This series probably isn’t going to win any awards or revolutionize the genre, but it is a good mindless time waster. This episode fits that criterion pretty well. It scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Cannes Confidential can be found on Reel Mockery here.
