He was the head of some sort of Doomsday cult which still exists today. DCI Barber was Harker’s great-grandson. She believes Barber is the father of Elias Mannix. Shahara tells them about the bomb Mannix will detonate. Bothroyd believes this is nothing more than a hoax. Shahara urges them to do something because it is supposed to happen today. Bothroyd admits that it makes her nervous that Barber sprung the Mannix kid. Shahara wonders if the bomb could’ve been kept under the bank. Bothroyd and Shahara go to the vault where Chandler (Ben Addis) tells them the key is from their oldest vaults. Chandler uses the computer briefly before saying she is Miss Shahara Hasan of 15 Spencer Driver. He is surprised to find that the vault has been in her name since May 6, 1941.

When Shahara opens the door to the vault, the lights turn off. A phone inside begins ringing. Bothroyd tells her not to answer it. Shahara claims she has to because they’re not done with her yet. Barber (Michael Jibson) tells her that he likes her because she is always in the eye of the storm. When the lights turn back on, they see the bomb in the vault. Barber says the bomb is live. He believes Shahara knows who has the trigger. He is scared and confused. Shahara is the one who will help him make up his mind. Shahara is supposed to drive away on her own, but Bothroyd decides to tag along. In the car, Bothroyd admits she believes her 100% now. Hayden Harker (Michael Shaeffer) tells all the detectives to clear out as Charles is brought in. When Barber calls, Shahara says she wants to talk to Elias.

He says she will. Barber wants her to go to Wells Pier. He warns her that they’ll hit the switch if they see anyone else. After the call, Shahara calls Ishmael to tell him to get Jawad out of the city. Shahara admits to Bothroyd that they can’t trust Barber not to detonate the bomb, but they don’t have any choice. She wants to try to talk him down. Barber apologizes to Elias (Gabriel Howell) for not being there. He goes on to tell Elias that this is his choice and his decision to make. That’s all they are ever going to ask of him. Barber shows him the detonator. As Elias freaks out, Barber reminds him he left the records and said he had suffered. He says they needed his pain as the catalyst for everything that was going to happen.

Elias claims not to be what Barber thinks he is. Barber will help him realize his dream once Hasan gives him the key. Hasan arrives moments later. Once she sits down, Barber seems to activate the bomb. Hasan tries to convince Elias not to detonate the bomb, but Barber urges him to decide himself. Barber says the last record Julian Harker ever made was created for Elias. Julian tells Elias that he has been rejected by his mother and father. Unless he does what must be done, Elias will continue to be alone. Outside, Bothroyd knocks out the security guard. Julian tells Elias that he’ll go back to 1890 and live his life as Sir Julian Harker. Bothroyd sneaks inside behind Elias and Barber. Hasan pleads with Elias not to set off the bomb.

Barber turns around and fires at Bothroyd. She ends up shooting him outside. Elias rushes over to his dad. Barber tells him that the world is his. Hasan asks Elias to hand over the detonator. Hasan gets it and gives it to Bothroyd. A team in the vault begins defusing the bomb. Mannix tells Defoe that they don’t have long now. Mannix tells Shahara that he’ll never forget how she helped him that day. She will never forgive herself for not killing him. Mannix reveals that Elaine and Andrew promised him this moment. He promised himself he would know he was loved. He’s built a world so others would know that feeling. Hasan wants to know if Iris has asked Mannix if he killed half a million people including her son. Mannix admits he did it and he is going to do it again.

Hasan breaks free, grabs a gun, and ends up shooting him in the leg. Mannix yells asking when she’ll realize she can’t stop this. He shoots Hasan before telling Defoe to make 1890 ready, but Defoe refuses before telling Mannix he’ll have to kill him. Mannix threatens to kill Hasan unless he opens the throat. Once the throat is open, Mannix tells Iris he leaves the future in her hands. He argues that the bomb also gave and he suspects Iris knows that deep down. Iris says she understands before Mannix goes back in time. In 1890, Henry asks Alfred if he got Harker’s confession. Alfred warns him that Harker wants him to frame him for the murder. The police commissioner’s son has just signed a sworn affidavit that he wasn’t with him. Alfred admits he has the entire establishment against him so no one will believe him.

Otherwise, Charles can listen to what he has to say and the gun can disappear. Hayden knows he still has a role to play. He shows Charles photos taken 50 years ago. Hayden says this office could have Charles’s name on the door by tomorrow morning.

Charles asks who the real boss is. After he says he wants to talk to who is really in charge, Hayden orders Hodges to inform Harker House they’re coming. Charles attacks them before telling Hayden he wants to put out the burning bush. Alfred returns to Paxman with everything he needs to get his man. Alfred returns home where he tells Polly to stop playing. Charlotte (Amy Manson) asks Alfred if it is the journalist. Alfred says he tried so hard to be who she wanted him to be. Charlotte questions whether any of it was real. Alfred says yes. Officers arrive and yell for Alfred who tells his family he killed a man. Polly realizes he is lying and pleads with him not to do this. Paxman enters and tells them that Alfred signed a confession.

Charles goes to Harker House where he asks for the lord of the manor. He goes inside and shoots Polly. Then, he goes upstairs and confronts Julian. When Charles shoots him, Julian tells him he is too late because it is over. Moments later, officers come in to arrest Charles for murder. Defoe takes a gun from a guard and points it at Iris who points one at him. After dropping his gun, Defoe tells her that she doesn’t have to do this. He claims he can follow him and stop him. He runs toward the throat. Iris yells for him to stop. Defoe enters the throat. Iris shoots. The bullet goes through his eye. Hasan calls her dad to see where he went to. She speaks to Jawad. After the call, Hasan tells Bothroyd she needs a favor. Then, she tells Elias that she has been given permission to drive him back to prison. He accepts that.

Bodies Review

This episode of Bodies was somewhat of a mess with the constant time jumps out of the blue. Despite Hasan, Bothroyd, and others trying to stop Mannix, he managed to complete his plan and end up in the past. As a result, the episode didn’t accomplish much and really lacked any emotional significance. The soundtrack with the superhero-like songs remains corny.

Certain aspects of the dialogue and some scenes were bad as well. For instance, Bothroyd saw everything Hasan did at the vault. Then, she told her that she believed her 100%. Why wouldn’t she after seeing all of that? The story has been stretched thin at this point making it difficult to genuinely care about any of it. It is just spinning in circles, going nowhere, with no clear objective.

The series could be better with shorter episodes and a tighter script that made us care about the characters. The episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Bodies can be found on Reel Mockery here.
